  3. The Aura is getting the 6-speed only with the DOHC 3.6L engine on the XR (top trim line). My question is, is it possible to build an OHV engine (that's not 8 cylinders), that runs as smoothly and quietly as an OHC engine? I mean, does OHC just naturally mean it will automatically be quieter/smoother than an OHV engine?
  4. Okay... so I just had my front suspension replaced (heard the knocking sounds over bumps, and the wheel bearing replaced on the left side), about 3 months ago.Now that I think about it--the whirring sound is not related to the engine's rpms, but rather how fast the wheels are spinning (speed)... that makes more sense--because the sound doesn't change when the transmission shifts... it just goes up or down depending on whether I'm accelerating or decelerating. Thanks 76ChevyTrucker. As for the metallic rattling sound, I haven't a clue what's causing it (like what I do to make it happen--it's rather random, but frequent). It doesn't seem to make that sound when the car is completely stopped (doesn't matter if it's in drive or park). I'll get it to the mechanic in a while. I don't think it's something that'd require immediate attention (so I hope), and I have a day off in a couple of weeks.

  6. Thanks. Uffa.I just have nothing to add. 5 cop cars chasing me in my Century? It just doesn't sound like your typical car chase. :AH-HA_wink: I guess I could lose them if I drove into a senior community, parked and ducked.
  7. Nah, can't do that. Something's wrong with my right ear in which it's extremely sensitive to high pitches. At a certain volume, my right ear sounds like a busted speaker. Since my current radio seems to just not optimize the bass I know my speakers have (since the stock radio was like 90% bass, 10% treble), raising the volume just creates an uncomfortable sensation for me.I could however, wear earplugs. Then I won't hear car horns
  8. It'd have to be a big 60mpg sign with an asterisk, and some smaller text below.
  9. Oh yeah, placing different lights on the outside of the vehicle to alert people when it's in hybrid mode--that won't be distracting at all. Oh, and additional lights all over the place? Sure, suck out the power of your better by every little bit--this way your 50/60 EPA ratings that get 44mpg will now be 45/55 that get 35 mpg.
  10. God it's gorgeous--I would TOTALLY buy that in a second if I could afford it.
  11. There are two sounds my car is making and I'm curious as to what they could be/what could be causing them. First of all, I'm driving a 1992 Buick Century Special, 3300 V6, 4A. Tomorrow morning's commute will make me pass 106,000 on my odometer. Sound #1: If you were to take your cell phone, put it on vibrate, place it on a tray and call it, this would be the sound. A metallic, vibrating sound. Oddly enough, it's not really present at a dead stop or park. It's mostly prominent at low speeds (probably because I can't hear it at high speeds). It comes from under the hood. Sound #2: A whirring sound that's getting louder and louder as time goes on. Say you drive a stick, and you're coasting in gear, and the engines' rpms are just slowly decending... that kinda sound. It's fairly loud now, and now that the exhaust is fixed, I can hear it even more. It whirs at all speeds, but obviously while coasting, I hear it slowly lowering it's pitch, and while accellerating, I hear it raising the pitch/tone. Any ideas what they are and what causes them? I'm just looking to understand my car a little better.
  12. Well, conservative is fine, although always perceived as geriatric. I wouldn't mind a conservative interior as long as it looked upscale. I'd like to see a little more pizzazz in the interior, but overall, I like it.
  13. I'm telling you right now, that interior would be a definite winner if built solid and with some high quality materials. And Croc, as for the Malibu's exterior, in my opinion, UGLY. I do NOT see it possible as a great seller with the current exterior (and I'm even including the refresh). If it had a phenominal interior, the exterior might be excused. It's boxy, blocky and unimaginative.
  14. Okay... so, I agree the LaCrosse needs a tweak in its design... a little more style. I think the fit and finish are impeccable. The wood, is an excellent touch, but should have been real wood--at least optional. A little more chrome, maybe some silver on the center stack or piano black (which I'm not entirely keen on because it easily smudges and to me that appears dirty). I saw in the other topic, on the NG Malibu, the interior showed some LED gauges, which would be a nice addition to the interior and give it a more upscale look. I'd like to see the in-dash 6-CD changer standard on the CX. At first the wood appeared as a nice touch, but when it was so obviously fake, it just doesn't say "premium" to me. I am probably going to be beaten for this, but the ES330's interior would be a decent interior for the LaCrosse. To me, the environment is rich, the materials are supple and of quality. Now, the materials in the LaCrosse, in my opinion, for the most part are high quality. I would like to see a little more style on the bland doors, maybe some fabric--which I honestly don't see why more car manufacturers don't dress up the door panels. I like the Lucerne's panels, but I still would prefer some soft fabric.

  16. I know, but part of me is very disappointed because we could have used the grille change and optional V8 for more than one year. It might have helped sales, and unified Buick's look being we'll have the Enclave and Lucerne with their nice, non-ovoid grilles.
  17. I'm a little annoyed--I really thought for 2007 we were going to see the LaCrosse Super.
  18. Those aren't GMs... they got them from another company... Aisin I believe. Now, I'm all for throwing another tranny in if it'll make the car look better (and still perform as wonderful as the 4-speed), but I don't think they can do that... since people say the platform can't handle the 6-speed auto GM just came out with.
  19. GM does not have a 5-speed FWD auto tranny.ABS is standard across all models There are no port holes on the LaCrosse unless the dealer installs them. As for the other changes, I agree.

  21. Well, I agree--it's time for GM to get their act together. Well, seems as they are, but let's hope they stay on the right track.
  22. OH! See, now that makes more sense. Thanks So, now I'm confused... that means we're getting the new LaCrosse grille for one model year? 2008? Sigh. Was hoping it would have been 2007, but we've learned that's not going to happen. Okay, getting back to the topic... what's concerning me is that the Malibu will never truly be a Camry/Accord/Altima fighter--or at least very good at it. It does alright, but it's not exactly up to par with the others. Bumping it up in quality/design/options... well, then you have problems competing with the Aura. And bumping the Aura up a notch, well, then you might be in LaCrosse territory. I'm anxious to see what GM has in store over the next few years.
  23. Well, if the LaCrosse is second on the Epsilon II platform, there's no way the NG Malibu would be in 2011... because that would mean the next generation LaCrosse wouldn't debut before 2012, and that gives it a 7-year model life on the W-platform, using a 4-speed automatic transmission. Nope. Not gonna happen. That's suicide.
