CHICAGO: 2008 Ford Taurus
Hertz will be very happy to get the Taurus name back..

FIRST LOOK: 2008 Pontiac G8 GT
By the way, the press release said that the new logo was an experiment..that implies the production car will have a regular Pontiac badge..

CHICAGO: 2008 Ford Taurus
The Five Hundred becomes the Taurus for '08, the Freestyle becomes the Taurus X. The Montego becomes the Sable. http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=15329

FIRST LOOK: 2008 Pontiac G8 GT
It didn't take that long..the VE Commodore only went on sale in OZ last September..

CHICAGO: 2008 Ford Taurus
Well, the Freestyle was a rather lame name..and the Freestyle more-or-less replaced the Taurus wagon, so it's appropriate for it to become a Taurus..

FIRST LOOK: 2008 Pontiac G8 GT
I'm guessing it's going to be about 190 inches long or so... maybe a bit longer than the GTO... since it doesn't have the big overhangs of the Impala or Monte, it will be shorter..I think the wheelbase is about 114 inches or so..

Exactly..this car is completely new to the NA market.. 99% of the general car buying public have no idea what a Holden is, let alone where Australia is... This would be a completely different story if Pontiac took a current NA market Chevy and tweaked it to be a Pontiac (which they have done in the past).

I've driven with snow tires in the winter..they work. Snow tires and traction control, should be fine..

SNOW TIRES. 4 OF THEM. Of course, if I bought one of these, I wouldn't drive it when it snows..that's what my SUV is for..

This is a Pontiac I could actually see myself buying, rather than renting..

Survey: Wealthy Buyers Give Top Marks to Cadillac
Honestly, I'd have to study both the G8 and CTS closely and test drive each...all things being equal, I find both cars attractive and interesting...can't wait to see both in person..

G8 Teaser
It will probably have traction control....put on a good set of snow tires and it will be fine for winter use...

Some people will whine about anything...the only way they are happy is when they are complaining...

G8 Teaser
Yes...hopefully those wheels show up, though..they are pretty slick looking, iMHO...not the usual dull 5-spoke.

And the exterior design..the G8 looks much better than the Charger, IMHO...can't wait to see it in person... And the availability of a manual immediately puts the G8 above the Charger and 300C as far as I'm concerned...

Well, the 362 hp definitely beats the 5.7 Hemi's 350hp... I bet they will do a 400+ hp GXP model to compete with the SRT8 if the GT is a success...

Looks great..I'm glad they left off the huge rear wing that the SS V has.. crisp. clean. modern. a minimum of add-ons. I love the wheels..not the usual 5-spokes that everyone has done to death..

Yeah, hopefully they won't market the G8 to the boomers...aim it at my generation (Gen X thirtysomethings)...though most of my peers aren't into domestics, I'm sure some people will be open-minded enough to consider a V8 Pontiac.

One thing I wondered..where are the Commodores built? For some reason I thought it was Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and not in Australia...

Or the type that never buy new cars and always blather on about how great cars were in 1970..

Yes... you can't win with the fogeys and sentimentalists, best to just ignore them and be optimistic for a successful future of this modern car..

ALL NEW PONTIAC
Probably covered to keep off dust and keep away thieves..

G8 Teaser
I'm surprised to hear you like it...after all, it doesn't have Wide Track, tailfins, yards of chrome, BOF, vinyl seats, a hardtop or carburators... I figured you'd be stuck in 1959 with Balthazar.

Yes.. I just hope people will be able to overcome residual prejudice for the Pontiac brand (and for many, many car shoppers Pontiac means overstyled FWD rental cars) and accept this car for what it is--a modern, world-class RWD V8 sports sedan, something that GM is NOT known for (outside of Cadillac).
