  1. Well, they got the right ingredients..RWD, V8, IRS, manual transmission coming...what's not to love?
  2. How about converting RWD to FWD? That would be a bold move..... imagine....converting a 4th gen Camaro to be a FWD turbo 4! (No more insane than some of the other ideas here.. )
  3. I like that Pacific Slate blue...nice and subtle. The Camaro would good in that color, IMHO.
  4. No...the people I know with Priuses will probably trade them before they get that many miles. I'm sure they will need replacement eventually.. Just being realistic...Ford, GM, Mopar don't have anything in the US currently that gets Prius mileage..simple fact. And it's sad, because I know that they have diesels in Europe that can get that kind of mileage, but the Big 3 spent the last few years pissing away money on stupid 5000-6000lb trucks and SUVs that could barely get 16 mpg, let alone 20...they used to have cars that could get good mileage--heck, my Ford Escort diesel got over 50--20+ years ago! To think we would stay at $2/gallon gas indefinitely was very short-sighted. I'd love to see the Detroit 3 lead for once, instead of always being behind the curve...
  5. Unfortunately, all I've seen of it is a grainy B&W photo...apparently, it was like a peachy color w/ white top. The '58 Merc 4dr ht they replaced it with was copper and white two-tone. That was replaced w/ a white '63 Ford Fairlane wagon, which was replaced with a '65 Hino Contessa (when they lived in Guam), then a '67 LTD 4dr ht in Hawaii, then when they came back to Ohio a '67 Cougar, '69 Mustang, '69 Marquis 4dr ht, then a '72 Marquis 4dr HT, then a series of Lincolns--'75, '79, '82, '85, '90, '96. The '67 Cougar is my Mom's barn..pretty rusty, though the two '68s they later bought are in show condition, as is the '69 Mustang. They also had a '73 Mustang Grande, '85 Mustang GT, and a '90 LX 5.0. My Mom mostly drove the Mustangs and Cougars, my Dad liked his Lincolns with the occasional small car for a tow car (hooked on the back of the Winnebago for vacations).
  6. My dad did dabble in GMs a few times over the years... had a '56 Bel Air 4dr ht back in '56, long before my time...I think that replaced a '54 Ford and then was replaced with a '58 Mercury Monterey 4dr ht. Then in the '70s, he had a '76 Vega 2dr sedan for a few years as a runabout (though he also had a '75 then a '79 Town Car at the same time). In the '80s, he briefly had an '81 Chevette Scooter as a tow car (said it was the worst car he ever owned, traded it on the '84 Ford Escort diesel that later became my first car). He was mostly always a Ford, Mercury and Lincoln guy. Lots of big Fords, Mercurys, then Lincolns from '75 through '96. Plenty of Mustangs and Cougars also. Strangely, even though my folks had the 150 acre place in Ohio, only 2 pickup trucks--a '79 Dodge 4x4 (awful vehicle, learned to drive in it) and later, a '94 Ranger (replaced with a '98 Explorer). My older brother, on the other hand, owned lots of GMs over the years... '58 Chevy Biscayne, '65 GTO, '68 Camaro SS 396, '75 Firebird Formula 400, '84 Chevy S10, '94 Chevy S10...
  7. In the real world, a lot of people buy new cars...$25k is cheap for a new car. Driving old cars with high mileage isn't a realistic option for most people. And I've never known anyone that had to replace batteries on a Prius, that's a myth.
  8. I think the Prius gets better than 21 mpg... face it, GM has nothing on the market in the US that comes close to the Prius mileage. People I know with Priuses say they are getting 40-45 or better. Not the advertised 60, but still quite good for a car that can haul 4-5 people.
  9. Curious names for the colors...'Stryker' makes me think of a Stryker saw (head saw).
  10. I still wonder about the backstory on a phantom I used to see in Ohio...it was a gray '85-86 Buick Electra 4dr stretch--a mild stretch, maybe 4 inches....thicker C-pillars and longer rear doors. Since Ohio used to be home of many professional car makers (Flxbl, S&S, I think were in Ohio) maybe it was built by one of them..
  11. Homemade Batmobile
  12. How about an Olds '98' built from combining a '90s Roadmaster sedan with the '92-93 Custom Cruiser front end and some Olds style vertical taillights. And how about a 'Starfire' performance version of the same but with a 2dr body and '96 Impala SS drivetrain? Or how a Pontiac 'Grand Ville' version of the '91-96 Caprice...and a performance Catalina 2+2 version based on a '96 Impala SS. A 2dr Nomad wagon built from a '91-96 Caprice wagon. A Mercury Marauder 2dr convertible like the concept car from '03 or so. A Ford Crown Victoria GT500 with Shelby GT500 engine, transmission, etc. I've long thought a mid-engined 4th gen Camaro would fun to build...mount the V8 where the back seat is, visible under the glass hatch.
  13. I think it's the combination of the gas prices and economy. I wonder if when the economy rebounds people will go back to big. I wouldn't buy an SUV or truck, but I would consider a big car, since cars get better mileage..
  14. The concept looks pretty similar to the regular Denali that's out now. The disguised pic look like maybe the 2010 refresh will have a deep set grille like the '73 or other past GMCs.
  15. Probably the wrong word, but there are a lot of True Believers out there...I sure know plenty of 'em..
  16. Probably...or more, isn't this supposed to be Theta-Epsilon or Theta II (whatever the NG platform is called)? GM could use some genuinely small xovers in the US, I think...
  17. Shweet...I've only seen 3 so far on the road--two in Colorado and one in Miami...none out here in the desert horror yet.
  18. Hmmm...how about a '73 Chevelle SS or '75 Laguna, done pro-touring style with a Baldwin-Motion style L88 hood, BM graphics, but big modern wheels/tires, brakes, and a crate LS1?
  19. Does a FWD unibody have a trans 'tunnel' per se, though? Isn't the transaxle ahead of the firewall? Anyway, it comes down to marketing..I would think it's getting harder to push a percieved 'old' transmission when the rest of the market has moved on to 6spds..
  20. Looks great..I only saw the orange one at the Denver auto show back March. I have yet to see one on the road or in a lot. I want a white one w/ Colorado plates. I love the styling...retro yet modern..stands out in a world of FWD generics.
  21. I have no idea either...the G and W are wide cars, wider than the Epsilon, so I would think there would be enough room for the 6 spd transaxle.. but I have no idea how the dimensions and mount points for the 4spd transaxle compares to the 6spd..but the part where it attaches to engine must be the same, since the 3.6 has been is used with both in fwd applications.
  22. I am surprised that GM still builds cars in the UK, though...I would the think the labour costs would be high compared to Poland, for instance. But who owns the Vauxhall brand name? GME, GM (UK) Ltd, or Vauxhall Manufacturing?
  23. Before I starting reading it closely, for YEARS I thought your handle was 'triacindabob'---thought you were a fan of Kirk Kirkorian (Tracinda Corp).
  24. As far as mine, I'm not sure why I picked 'moltar'..must have been inspired by Moltar The Inperious character on Space Ghost. It also reminds me of MostaB, the German word for something that I caon't remember. I've been on the internet since the Usenet news groups era of the late '80s in college, have used many handles elsewhere, incl. moltar and 'Cubical', 'Cubicleman' and 'DJ Cubical'. My real name is Rob (NEVER Bob though).
  25. Cool..I figured there was a FLW connection w/ yer handle. I'm a bit of FLW fanatic myself, have several books on his work, and have toured his home in Oak Park, Taliesin West, and Fallingwater... As I kid, I wanted to be a car designer...I should have stuck to it and become Chris Bangle (he is from Ohio also). Though if wasn't a software engineer/architect, I would have liked to have gone into architecture..I love industrial design and building design.
