I would have liked to see GM use it's Direct Injection technology to make it's engines more efficient rather than more powerful. I'm quite happy with the power available in my current CTS and really don't see the need for a 300hp V6. I would have preferred that GM keep the power ratings the same, but used the DI to bump up the MPG quite a bit. Would anyone really have a problem with a 260hp CTS that gets 33mpg highway?

To address each of your points. They can be cost effective, your mileage may vary. MPG ratings by the EPA, new for 2008. Running the A/C drops mileage on standard cars too. They are a step in the right direction Saturn Aura Green-line, Escape Hybrid 650hp Mini-Cooper hybrid concept, Chevy Volt, Tesla Roadster So is the iPod. Look, there is nothing wrong with wanting to use less of a non-renewable fuel. Hybrids are just one of many ways to do that. I'm still waiting for my E85, Active Fuel Management, hybrid Chevy Avalanche......

you mean SULEV. There are lots of ULEVs and SULEVs... GM's 3800 is SULEV I think. Most Hybrids are SULEVs, but Ford has even gotten their Focus so clean that it also qualifies as a PZLEV. This means that a Ford Focus is cleaner when it's running than anything in 68's garage that's not running.

The only one I could picture him buying would be a 79-85 E-body.

The current CTS-V already runs with <but doesn't beat> the M5 in handling, they're so close it's down to driver skill.

It seems to me that Mazda could be in a unique position in the world of hybrids. Some points to consider: 1. It's entirely plausible to have a car who's only means of propulsion is via electric motors; Tesla and the Electric Mini have proven that. 2. Generators work their best at a consistent, generally high, RPM. 3. Rotary engines are their most efficient at a high rpm. 4. Rotary engines are very smooth running. What I'm suggesting here is mating a small displacement rotary engine, probably less than 1 litre, to a generator to charge the batteries. Batteries in turn run the electric motors <in the wheels like with the Electric Mini> of moderate power. The rotary/generator only fires up and runs when the batteries need to be topped off. Throw in a plug in feature for when the car is parked and the lithium ion battery technology from Tesla, and I see the potential for a good performing vehicle that can get 50+ mpg with a very unobtrusive, compact, power train. Now, I've never driven a rotary powered car, I don't know how they'd react to being started and stopped like they would be in a hybrid situation. What do you guys think?

Very few vehicles are completely error free at launch... even super important ones like the Lambdas and Tundra. Still though, catastrophic engine failure? GM hasn't had an issue like that since the 8-6-4.
