  1. I would rather import corn from a stable country than oil from the Middle East, Venzuela, etc. I don't know which countries grow corn, but I don't think these oil producing giants have the same stranglehold on the corn market. Also, if we get business (including farmers) to structure right, we could grow most of the corn ourselves in the near future. This country went through a HUGE industrial spurt during WW2, so why can't we crank up agriculture for this current challenge! Good point's you brought up though. Oh, and I can't afford popcorn after paying $10 for a movie ticket!
  2. If it means getting us off of buying oil from crazy dictators, I would grow corn in my back yard! Sounds crazy (and a little bit communist), but the USA should grow the fuel we use every day! If the USA can get people to work towards this (tax credits?), then the average Joe could grow this stuff in a back yard garden. This could be sold at an ethonol market, then be picked up and turned into fuel. I think if it is done that way, and is spread Nation wide, then it could very well work.
  3. Given the HUGE growth spurt of China and India, oil will not become any cheaper! I know this has been said many times, but E85 (or E100), would be a common sense solution. That is the only way I can see getting out of this problem. Yeah, we could drive more fuel efficiant vehicles, but we have so many extra drivers in India and China, demand will STILL outstrip supply! We need to build more ethonol refineries that use the corn waste to fuel the machines (like in Brazil), create seperate corn markets for ethonol producers to buy and Mr. Joe Farmer to sell, and give tax encintives for gas stations to install E85. If the USA did these three things, we would once again see fuel below $1 a gallon and would have PLENTY of fuel for the SUV's America loves (plus help our fellow farmers, instead of a person from the Middle East that probably hates the USA)! This just makes too much sense!
  4. My ex girlfriend back in college bought an 89 318 Series. Great car, great style! I actually yearned for one (I'm a hardcore GM fan)! I think BMW has been getting away from it's roots of good styling! I would not buy any BMW on the market now!
  5. Sonett! Sonett! Sonett!! Bring this to market!!!!!
  6. My 04 GTO doesn't have any trunk space either. I learned how to cope with it. I'm actually looking for a G6 Vert or a Solstice here in a few months. My single man life is starting to come to an end so I have to get one more fun car for my practical car years are closing in FAST! Trunk space means NOTHING to me at this point! Oh, and I want a pinball machine too!
  7. What have we come down to! Listen, if this commercial offends people.........TOO BAD!!!! Will this commercial change the way people see gay people.....NO!!!! How about that new commercial with the Hybrid Camry that states " This is what America needs". I'm surprised nobody has posted that! But no, the GM board has to be the board to argue gay rights. Now, I have several gay friends, and I support gay rights, but this is ridiculous! PS. No offense against the poster or any of the replies.
  8. Well, I have seen only 1 new Miata in the city where I live and the Solstice has been selling (for us) like what I have seen elsewhere, we can't keep them in stock. Although, we have been able to buy them from other dealers as a dealer transaction. We still make money off of them when we sell them, but apperently the car is not as hot for the dealers that we get them from. I still think that this car is going to be the roadster in this class to lust over. The Miata looked good...........in the 90's! This goes to show how these Japanese companies are starting to get the mentality of owning the automobile world. They don't have to pay attention to design because their customers will just show up and buy their cars because of their nameplates.....................
  9. Well, here in southern MO, it is pretty popular (domestics still rule the roads here). I'm close to adding one of the G6 verts to my garage (1 more on the road).
  10. Anyone remember when that Daewoo CEO tried to run from the law? Well, that, this, Mitsubishi recall ffiasco, whats next from these "Gods of industry".....................
  11. Well, since SAAB has not had a best of show for years (I don't think), this would be a good choice for a new SAAB two seater. Oh, and regardless of what everyone else is saying.................KEEP THE CANOPY!!!! I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE TO SALE YOUR SOUL TO THE DEVIL.................FIND A WAY TO KEEP THE CANOPY!!!!!!!
  12. Well, I watched an interesting show on oil on CNN, and apperantly Brazil is a few years away from being TOTALLY independant on any outside source of oil through their E100 program (through sugar cane). Now, hybrids are nice, but given the fact that the US government has to PAY farmers to not grow corn, well..........................
  13. True........but they won't be when GM moves their production out of the country, then the true supporters of GM will survive and the "supporters" that use GM as a pinata will dissapate. I don't support unions AT ALL!!!! Here is a quick fun fact for you. I just got back from vacation in Las Vegas, and the hotel I was staying at was hosting a giant union conventions with several different unions attending. You could tell who the union members were with their shirts and name tags. It shocked me (not really) to see these SAME PEOPLE gambling their money in slot machines, table games, and sports bets (while some were smoking nice cigars). These are the SAME people who can't pay for any of their health care, and need to suck more and more money every year from struggeling parent companies every year. I say (as I said before) I will support ANY GM production outside the USA. It will happen, just wait and see.
  14. Diesel is LONG overdue for a wider market BUT better now than not doing it at all. GM will gain a good number of customers on this!
  15. I think the new Camino would be great (SS!!!)! GM needs the guts and the passion back, and this would be a step in the right direction. I would consider trading my 04 GTO for one. Also, anyone comparing this to the demise of the Baja needs to be reminded that the Baja was an akward POS! I had a friend visit Australia recently and he asked me "What is a Ute?". Turns out, he had been hearing rappers ALL OVER the radio singing "rolling in my Ute". Now, I hate rap BUT if the Ute can get a similar status as the Escalade (different market.....I know), then I think it would be a great seller. BRING THE CAMINO!
  16. I think that many people see Chinese products a junk and much of it is. What people don't see is the TREMENDOUS progress the Chinese has made in quality. You know, I have been a supporter on this board for GM to increase production in China ever since I joined. I have taken MUCH flak fo doin so. From a dealer employee perspective (me) I see Chinese production as life and death for GM. Would I like to see continued production in the USA........YES! Is continued production possible in the USA while staying above water.................I don't know! How many other dealer employees see this?
  17. Many people complain about the styling, but I bought my 04 with that as a plus for me. Don't get me wrong, I like bold, but there are quite a few people that want to feel thrilled without being a showoff. The best driving experiences I have ever had were in that car. To tell you the truth, people who knew what it was KNEW what it was. It just wasn't like driving a Ferrari down the street. I think if Toyota made the same car it would of been a sucess, this shows AGAIN how the American public wants GM to die, but people like us won't let it!
  18. I'm from shouthern MO, and all the way up to St. Louis and Kansas City gas is below $2.00. It's been no more than 2.10 for some time. That's good because this is a huge domestic truck area. Anyway, I think if the Enclave is as close as Lutz says it is to the concept, GM will have a major winner. Don't know much about the Aura, but from the looks of it I can't see people not liking it. I think GM should keep developing their SUV's and trucks because I have a feeling when GM gets's that higer end hybrid affordible enough, they can really stick it to Toyota and increase the momentum of the resurgence of GM.
  19. I have not seen $2.50-$3.00 gas in my area for several months.......not even close! Maybe in a huge city but he says it as a country as a whole. I take this article as more propaganda!
  20. It all comes down to SAAB doing something attractive but "out of the box". SAAB COULD tone down a vehicle and sell a modest amount or SAAB could go the path less traveled and bulid a car with a canopy door. RWD, FWD, AWD, those are all features that will attract different buyers, but what will make SAAB the "cool" car to have. I can go out and buy a number of cars that offers AWD, but can I buy a car with a canopy top. Well, the media and Japericans are beating GM to a pulp based on them not being innovative and building cars that people want. Well, I can see a car with a canopy top being inovative but most important a car that people will want to be seen in.................even possibly at sticker. So GM, take a chance on this vehicle, and see where it takes you. This could be a vehicle that goes the way of the Aztec, or it could be a vehicle that could become the next "Car Of The Year"...................think about it!
  21. Now are the people in this thread not liking the canopy from a production cost stand point or from a styling standpoint. Personally, I think if it could be done without blowing the cost of the car out of the respective market, then SAAB would have something special.
  22. The whole car is way "overdone", from the front, to the giant door. I think if GM wants to find a place in this world for SAAB, it would be with decently priced luxury cars, with safety and that "against the mainstream" look and feel. Yes, this car is strange, but make something like this and a retro SAAB (from the 50's), and you will have SAAB back in the media and the minds of the trendy! SAAB IS NOT DEAD!
  23. What ever this goes for, the buyer will not experience a hint of buyers remorse!
  24. You know, Mini does not have ANY competition. GM could crash into this market, and give SAAB a new lease on life. A retro "bug crap" vehicle would do more for SAAB's recovery than ANYTHING else they could make. Just think about the press that would follow something like this!
