Pardon the ignorance, but what's French dip?
  2. Was it ever retested after this EuroNCAP result? I can't seem to find anything else at the EuroNCAP website other than those 2006 Aveo results...
  3. It was a joke someone posted on Metallica's board. I just found it hilarious. I even put that up as my personal message on MSN My favoutite titles are a few they were joking aroound with at the time St. Anger was recorded: "Floods of Vomit" and "Satanic Coo Coo Clock". Anyway, one month from today (June 5th) I'll be rocking to their stuff, old and/or new, in Lisboa. I don't know how I'll be able to come to work the day after, but I'll worry about that then, hehe poor Lars!
  4. And why GM has been choking Saab to death is beyond me. EDIT - Actually, I do have an explanation for that, but I'll keep it for myself :AH-HA_wink:
  5. I learned to drive on a diesel 5 door Corsa B. I'm 6-feet tall and my legs were constantly hitting either the steering wheel or the steering column. There was no way to sit comfortably in that thing...

The success or failure of any business, at any time and anywhere, translates into 'sales charts and binary codes'. Regarding the emotional element, on a purely personal level I see and feel the same as you. But what I also see is that for most people safe, reliable and inexpensive transportation is just what they want, nothing more and nothing else. Where Japanese OEMs have succeeded is in recognizing and catering to those basic needs. EDIT - to add something, it is in offering good design (i.e. reconnecting with that emotional element) on bread-and-butter cars that I see American OEMs' chance to win the game.

Good read! His perspective on outsiders is accurate IMO: Looking at a company as a set of assets that either perform or are to be sold/discontinued is what should be done, and these outside executives will do it because they don't have as many constituencies to answer to.
