  1. quoted for the win. I saw some cool Old's cutlass's here in town but the guy wanted more than I could afford. The bimmer would probably be too expensive to work on. Ultimately my only real choice for my price range was the 300zx. I ended up spending $1100 for a running 1987 Turbo. Straight body and decent interior (no major rips). Granted it's going to need work, but I finally got a project car. He's a shot he provided for reference. Cliff Notes: 1987 300zx Turbo 131k miles $1100 5 Speed T-Tops Straight Body Good Interior - Red Needs Engine work
  2. Well, I finally purchased a project car after wanting one for at least 13 years. Here were my prerequisites: RWD, Manual, T-Tops or Convertible, Sporty, Cheap. I looked at a few cars, and was willing to make sacrifices if needed to. I looked at F-Bodies, G-Bodies, BMW 633's, Volvo 244's, and a few others that I decided against. Well, I'm going to play a game, who can guess the car? It met all of the above requirements. If y'all don't guess it quickly I will start to give hints. And technically I haven't bought it yet as it is still in another city.
  3. Don't forget that most of France's energy does come from Nuclear power. If they are all running air powered cars that have been filled from the grid that is EXTREMELY earth friendly. The only "pollution" is the steam. The downsides of nuclear power is if you have a melt down, and storing of the waste materials.
  4. Also in VA you can't have radar detectors and aren't they the state that is trying to pass the $1500 speeding ticket rule, or something like that?
  5. I have lived in SC (Greenville, Columbia, Fort Mill) pretty much all my life. I now live in Fort Mill which is a suburb of Charlotte, NC. No body here worries about hurricanes. The worst we had in SC was Hugo back in 1980 something. I'm sure if you total up the damage done by that hurricane and all other hurricanes since them the $ lost would be less than the damages from winter storms, flooding, drought, or other natural disasters that hit other areas of the country. People complain about HP in SC, but in all my driving I have received 1 ticket (knock on wood). And that was from an unmarked Camaro at 5:00am in the morning on the way to crew practice in Columbia, SC. Taxes are lower in SC than NC, but auto insurance is higher in SC than NC, making it a wash. Property taxes are lower in SC. I have a biased opinion, but I'd say generally SC is better than NC. Greenville is a big automotive hub (more auto related companies with in a 500 mile radius in Greenville than Detroit). Of course the BMW plant is in Greer, and ICAR is progressing nicely. If I had to order the states from best to worse it would be: SC, NC, VA
  6. creative is only like 20% of the effectiveness of marketing. What they need to do is an Automated Marketing campaign similar to what my company does. This is what Toyota does and it has worked brilliantly. It's not what, it's "how."
  7. I find it interesting that you mention how we work more than other countries but when you look at countries that have more of a protectionism stance their working hours are above us. We work hard because we want to purchase things that are within our reach. Things are in our reach because we have relatively free borders and products are affordable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_time
  8. What is your dad doing now? The only argument I will accept is if you show me statistics how Free Trade has hurt the economy as a whole. Show me unemployment rates and GDP performance. That is all that I will accept. WHen you actually look at the statistics and see our employment rate is better when we open up our borders you should realize that Free Trade is a good thing!
  9. I was in Des Moines back in August for the IA state fair. My wife's family is from there.
  10. the 3800 is buick. It's a buick engine and any owner of the 3800 will want another car w/ it, because it is so great. Stop with the 3800 hatin', it's a great engine.
  11. I am a USAA member and I have services with them in banking, loans, and insurance and they are easily the best big company I've ever worked with. I am delighted to be one of the few that is a member.
  12. Because the free markets decide what is the best solution. There is no limit on the amount of energy available to us. Oil just happens to be the cheapest and most available even at $3/gallon. All about supply and demand. This is not a good bill at all. If I want to buy a car with 20mpg I should be able to. The problem with this bill is that the companies are going to have to now increase the price of their cars to cover all the costs of R&D to get the cars where the government wants them to be. So we are going to be paying for this. It would probably end up cheaper for the consumers to have a lower MPG and a lower car price, than a higher MPG and higher car price.
  13. I think the problem is they were using a canoe and paddles, rather than a shell and oars. Canoe: note* you can only fit two "paddlers" Shell: note* 8 rowers, and 1 coxswain
  14. I think it's funny how everyone always complains about Japan having a weak currency. Then when we have a weak currency everyone complains. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
  15. t-types > GN's because they are even more sleeper!
  16. until I can afford a new one...which is pretty much when I have to buy one. I've only purchased one car and that was Nov of 2003. So I would say at least 3.5 years.
  17. I like it. worlds better than the current liberty. they are FWD though aren't they?
  18. shucks, 9.9 miles. He's prolly done 36 quarter mile runs. Little too much abuse for me.

Ya, me and nearly 90% of economists don't get it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_trade

So, because Japan is socialist and gives favors to it's businesses we should too? We are a free market capitalist society that has allowed us to become the largest, most powerful economy in the world. Do you want to risk losing that to help out a couple of auto companies? Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of supporting GM/Chrysler/Ford by purchasing their cars, but that is it. There shouldn't be government handouts. If GM can't figure out how to make cars that people want to purchase they should go out of business.

Free trade helps us as Americans; not hurt us. Better to help all millions of Americans rather than help just a few thousand because of special interests. Being "fair trade" or "protectionist" or whatever you call it is exactly the same as being anti-competition. Anti-competition is what Communism, Socialism, and Dictatorships base their government on. A government that works based on Free Market Capatilism will be the most effective.
