  1. Can't believe I missed this thread. The 4.3 V8 was the standard engine in the 94-6 Caprice's and not offered in any of the other B/D cars. It's found in quite a few 9C1 cars for LEO departments who didn't want to spend the extra money or didn't see the need for the LT1. Look at it this way, even this little V8 put out similar horsepower to the 5.7 throttle body injected V8 in the 93 Caprice. Is it slow? Compared to the LT1 sure! But still respectable for a car of it's size and at least as powerful as the 5.0/5.7 combo it replaced. Plus, I've known people who can push close to 30mpg highway with the 4.3 engine. Sad thing is, quite a few Caprice newbies get suckered into buying one of these because unless you know what to look for (VIN, SPID, exhaust) it's almost impossible to tell the difference. Underhood, the L99 and LT1 look identical. I've heard stories of mechanics insisting there is no such engine and since it's a 4.3 displacement, it must be a V6.

  3. Why would anyone WANT to copy the front end of a tundra on their new truck?
  4. As usual, I enjoyed the show. Sat in two (or was it three...) Malibu's. Very nicely done cars. Certainly on the list for replacing our 03 Century when the time comes. Unfortunately the Malibu Hybrid was on a platform and couldn't be sat in, as were all of the GMT900 hybrids. No Camaro at all. I thought this rather odd..... STS-v, I know most don't care for the STS but man I love that car! CTS, simply beautiful... Got to sit in an XLR for the first time. Certainly not up to CTS refinement, but still nice. I'd take one. Had to wait in line to sit in the Enclave quite a bit of buzz around it. It's even nicer in person than the pictures. A G8 GT was on a platform. Very attractive car with what appear to be production wheels. Couldn't touch it though. Spent quite a bit of time (trying not to laugh) around the tundra's. I actually saw the door panel move when I pulled on it to close the door. I know they're show circuit trucks but the 4 wheel drive knob was broken, it fell off when I went to turn it. The 08 Ram across the isle was a nicer truck than this. Speaking of which, the 09 Ram looks very nicely done too. Camry, yawn, nuff said.
  5. I saw that at the show on Saturday. Unfortunately it was just like the picture, all closed up and locked. I thought the all electric Pontiac Fiero was much cooler though.
  6. I agree with GMTruckGuy. If it's what YOU like, then it's not silly or crazy to spend your time and money restoring it. I'm in the middle of restoring (to original) a 92 Olds Custom Cruiser. I'm sure I'll get some of the "you're crazy for wasting your money/time on that" from others. Do I care? Nope! Good luck with your project! Mike
  7. Yaris = Echo = Tercel My partner had a 96 Tercel. Horrible little car. No wonder they keep changing the name...... Great job toy-Ota, keep up the good work!
  8. Okay, I'm confused here. The Sierra/Silverado are each up over 30% over last month. Down a tiny bit over last year but not by much. So why are they cutting production of the trucks? If sales are up or even almost flat, shouldn't they be maintaining production? Or am I missing something completely?
  9. Well I'm guessing it was the current Astra. Again, it was dark and a black (or dark colored) car so I'm not 100%. But this pic looks about right: I so wish I had been able to snap a pic. No idea on the plates either. I would be highly surprised to see manufacturer plated cars in VA though.
  10. I was headed to the beach last week and passed a convertible on the highway. Now being the observant person I am (when it comes to cars anyway) I got a look at the back of the car as I approached to pass. I caught a glimpse of the badge on the rear and though "that looks like the Opel emblem." It was dark though and I figured I just didn't see it right. So a couple miles later the car catches back up with me so I slow down to get a better look. Black convertible, top down. Left hand drive and sure enough, the badge on the rear of the car is the Opel badge and it says Astra on the trunk lid! Unfortunately before my co-pilot could grab his camera they got off the highway. I know this is the Saturn section but I thought I'd post here as I didn't think the Astra was coming over here as a EDIT: Convertible. Am I wrong? What really piqued my interest was that it was, in fact, a left hand drive car. Didn't get a look at the tags either unfortunately. Comments? Thoughts? Someone tell me I wasn't seeing things!
  11. Daimler CEO says Chrysler won't be auctioned Linky and the saga continues....
  12. Keep it GM. Funny ad, and there's no such thing as bad publicity right? :AH-HA_wink:
  13. If you click the link to the GM Goodwrench site, it looks like this is exactly what they wanted you to think. http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/
  14. Two thumbs WAY up! Great looking car. But..... why do they have to keep throwing out perfectly good names? This should be the new Bonneville or even GranPrix. I'm just not thrilled with the whole alphanumeric thing. I know but still......
  15. Yup, on The Mall. And I took Orange line from Vienna as did most of them. It was just like rush hour. Ugh. But well worth it in the end! Cool pic of the Volt's power cord! I wish I hadn't missed that!
  16. Thanks for the pictures! I went Saturday, it was quite crowded. I had to wait in line to sit in quite a few of the cars. There were so many people, most of the pictures posted would have had heads in them. Once I finally actually got to see the Camaro, I was impressed. I can't believe I missed the Volt though! They had a Yukon hybrid there but you couldn't see anything, it was locked. Grumble... Great show, glad I braved the protestors to make the trip.
  17. Cool story Sixty8. Funny how we can place events in our lives around a car of some sort huh. Sign of a true car nut.
  18. 95 Cutlass Supreme Convertible - Updated dash made it even better than the previous years. I will have one someday. 70 442 92 Custom Cruiser - My current restoration project and the last RWD Olds (I don't count the Bravada. :AH-HA_wink: )
  19. Well said regfootball. I keep that site bookmarked and do try to use it first when shopping for things. It's a nice feeling to know your purchases are supporting more than just the retailer where it was purchased. I also have one of these in the back window of my car.
  20. I was just looking to see if this article had already been posted. Doesn't appear so but this looks to be a good place to put it. Four models huh? 1 - Enclave obviously 2 - New LaCrosse 3 - New Lucerne 4 - halo vehicle? Coupe? Just my .02 of course....
  21. I love it! Glad to see that the cockpit look is coming back too. As stated above, I hope the lower trim levels look nice as well.
  22. Thanks for the review. I sooooo want to justify replacing my 92 Sierra with a new GMT900! But the darned thing just keeps running! I'm surprised at how poorly the F-150 did. Really quite disappointing. I also noticed that they tested the Titan but not the Tundra. Gotta wonder why. Or is is just not even worth it?
  23. My first thought when I saw it was a fat Matrix. Not pretty.....
  24. Nice read. I particularly like this line....
