  1. An interesting point you bring up. It could perhaps be generalized a bit further to say that we need the capability of manufacturing machinery in this country. If we do go to war (okay already are) we need to be able to build our own stuff. I'm not saying that our tanks, etc are made in Japan (or wherever) now but with a dwindling manufacturing base, how long before that becomes a possibility? Perhaps it really is an issue of national security? I remember seeing old posters from WW2. Cadillac powered tanks. Now that's impressive!
  2. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081028/bs_nm/us_chrysler_gm_6 There's got to be some irony in there about Taxpayers who own Toyota's paying for this....
  3. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/081015/gm_hummer.html?.v=1 Interesting move, naming a CEO for Hummer.
  4. 25mpg (or more) highway is quite common on these cars if you can manage to keep your right foot off the floor. The 95 1A2 wagons are one of, if not the rarest, of the last gen B-Body cars. At $900 it's worth it, unless it's a total rust case. Love to see some pictures if you have any.
  5. Love the tail 'fins', like the roof rack. The rest is meh. Though I agree it's a great competitor with the lexus rx. I'm going to go drool over the CTS wagon some more....
  6. I think I just found the replacement when it comes time to trade the CTS. I love it. Not crazy about the big d pillars either but I'll reserve judgment until I can sit in one and see what (if any) blind spots they create. An word when we'll get pricing info? EDIT. Autoblog link ( http://www.autoblog.com/photos/monterey-20...-reveal/979277/ ) picture 9. Someone please tell me that's the next XLR...
  7. Interesting. G8? G8 Truck? Buick? STS/DTS replacement?
  8. Aw, gee thanks. And look, 'new' smilies for my birthday. :smilies-38096: He he, just had to use a couple.
  9. Absolutely agreed! Find a good name and stick with it!
  10. A typical sedan is usually designed for a range of somewhere around 400 miles as I understand anyway. As long as they don't start shortening the 'electric only' miles I don't see a big problem here.
  11. Similar article here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080707/bs_nm/gm_jobs_dc_1 Interesting that this time 'white collar' jobs are specifically mentioned.
  12. Agreed. I've not driven either but sat in both. The Titan is a much nicer truck than the "all new" tundra. Not that I'd buy either, I'll take a GMT-900 but had I only the choice of the two, it'd be the Nissan.
  13. Oh but you forgot the bottom of that list.... :AH-HA_wink: Titan 1,260 Armada 866
  14. Certainly not as scary as it could have been. But how the hell is the Aveo down?! New Cobalt needed NOW too. PS: Mod's. Can the 07 Sales threads be archived as in previous years? Getting kinda long up there.
  15. Yeah, they forgot BEST EVAR sales decline! Okay, I couldn't resist... A random thought. Are we going to see people (with lots of disposable income) buying big suv's just to make a statement? "I can afford to spend lots of money on gas so I'm buying a big suv to show the world" Not counting those who actually NEED a large vehicle for hauling lots of people, like large families, of course.
  16. Interesting survey. I've only ever had one new car, an '02 Alero. Most cars I buy are newish used. Or old B-bodies. Though I've never owned a new Caddy, I'm on my second used. My goal is to buy a new one in a couple years though, STS or it's replacement. Fingers crossed!
  17. I routinely have samples of my oil analyzed. I use Blackstone Laboratories to do the testing. After several samples, we got the oil change interval in my Fleetwood (LT1) up to 7,000 miles before the oil and all of the additives were "used up". And that wasn't using a synthetic either. It's all based on driving habits, a good portion of my driving is highway, hence it's safer to have longer intervals between changes. The 3mo/3k miles interval has always, at least as far as I remember, been for "severe driving" conditions. All heavy stop and go traffic or short (less than 20 minutes) trips, very dirty conditions, etc. Not so sure I buy the "lifetime" transmssion fluid though. My CTS will get a trans fluid change at 50K, even though I don't meet the conditions for it. Just my .02.

    08 STS

I've sat in both the CTS and STS ('08 models) though I've not driven either. At just over 6' tall, while I fit comfortably in both, I find that the STS just feels more roomy. Since the back seat is mainly for my lunch and bag for the trip to work, I've not looked at back seat space. Besides, no modern Caddy (except maybe the DTS-L) has anywhere near the rear seat room of my '95 Fleetwood. I actually like the interior of both even though I will certainly agree that the CTS looks and feels much more refined. As for the exterior I like the STS better simply because it looks like a bigger car and it's more sedate looking. Again, still small compared to my Fleetwood. I'd actually take the DTS over either (again, bigger car) but I'm not interested in FWD. I will say though that the STS interior without the NAV just looks plain cheap! I'm not one to care about NAV but wouldn't buy one without it since the center stack just looks like it's missing something without it. Interestingly, the CTS I sat in was a "base" model and didn't have the pop up NAV. I found it actually looked fine without it. Just my .02 of course, your mileage may vary....
  19. Thanks for the feedback guys! I was hoping I'd be able to see a 25-6mpg average in one. Looks like it'll be right about on with the numbers you've posted. So the 3800 doesn't have the gasket failure problems of the 3100? Mike
  20. I know there are a few of you who have one of the 3800 engines in your cars. What kind of real world fuel mileage are you seeing? Highway and city? I'm pondering a Riviera as there are a couple decent ones available locally. Also, am I correct in thinking that the mid/late 90's 3800 suffered the infamous intake(?) gasket failure problem which the 3100's suffered? TIA!
  21. That's a scary number, 86%! Haven't heard anything from GM on this 'corporate tax'. Wonder if it's going to hit them and others too...

  23. I'm going suggest that you have a fuel delivery issue. Though it is unusual for the pump to go on such a low mileage car, it's certainly possible. Just last year I had to replace the fuel pump on my SS at only 77K. Is the hard start issue all the time or only when cold? First off, change your fuel filter if you haven't already. Try this as a troubleshooting measure. Turn the key to run but don't start, wait a few seconds, maybe 10 tops. Turn the key to off and immediately try to start the car. If it fires up right away, it's quite possible you have a fuel pump on it's way out. The forums mentioned above are a great source, I'd also recommend http://www.impalassforum.com all 91-6 B/D cars are covered here and there is a wealth of knowledge amongst the members.
  24. Some better pictures "just released". http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/17/officia...ignia-revealed/ Well, it's the Opel version but hopefully the Saturn version to be.
