Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations and Cantebury (for those that don't know LTTN was one of the albums that had a big influence on early Metallica). LTTN is a great NWOBHM album, Cantebury was a little more progressive but I still like it a lot. "To the Devil His Due" is a classic.

One of my coworkers has an '05 Acura TSX and I got to ride in it today since we all went out to eat at Kansas City BBQ over lunch hour and it's a good 10 minute drive from work. This was my first time in an Acura and actually, now that I think about it, my first time ever in a Japanese luxury brand. I kept it in the back of my mind that this was "entry-level." But after having ridden recently in a Cobalt SS and now riding in the TSX, I don't see the hype over Japanese interiors. There was A LOT of hard plastic in that car that you could tap and it sounded like a Rubbermaid lid. There were no sqeaks or rattles but the interior didn't seem much better than the Cobalt I rode in a couple weeks ago, besides having nicer materials in a few places. The car jumped and bumped over every crack in the road and the engine seemed gutless when he stepped on the gas (he's a leadfoot too). All in all, it was not what I was expecting. And to add, I rode in another co-worker's '01 Escape the other day and that interior was horrid...I brought back memories our old plastic fantastic Windstar. God Ford has come a long way in interiors! (Whoops...I just realized I put this in the wrong forum...I'm still not used to Asian manufacturers being split up)

He hasn't bought new in years...we bought our Explorer fairly new for my mom (only 29 miles on it) but his last "new" car was the '90 Lumina. He's not a big Ford guy so I doubt he'd go for a 500/Taurus...although he was the one that pushed so hard for the Explorer. It doesn't have nearly as much interior space as our Windstar did (at 6'4", there is no legroom for me in the second or third rows) and it gets worse gas mileage, but it's been far more reliable so I guess that's something.

Host it on Imageshack...attached files never work for me.

I don't think he'll ever leave GM. He's pretty much exclusively driven GM since his first car, a '73 Firebird. He's owned a Dodge Warlock, a VW Rabbit, and a Grand Marquis, but the rest have all been GM.

Unbeknown to me until about half an hour ago, my dad apparently now owns a 1999 Buick LeSabre with 90,000 miles, red exterior and gray leather interior, pretty loaded. It was my mom telling me this so I have no idea what trim it is...she's supposed to be sending pictures soon. My dad had been driving a '92 Olds Eighty-Eight for about 10 years and apparently it has finally kicked the bucket at 180,000 miles. He's been having more problems with it over the last year, so it was probably time to go, sadly. It's too bad because we just repainted it a few years ago and the condition of the car's exterior is still in really good shape with no rust or dings. I wish he would've got a used Olds Intrigue or Aurora...but apparently he got the LeSabre for a really good deal from my uncle who owns a used car dealership. So yeah, this is my family's first Buick ever...and unfortunately probably the last Olds after having owned an '80s Cutlass Ciera, '86 Cutlass Supreme, and the Eighty-Eight. Man, I'm trying to find pics of the Olds but I think they are on a backup disc at home. I posted some a while ago but I can't find the post...it must've got lost in one of the server changes. Edit: Pics, I got it mixed up...silver with maroon interior Our next door neighbors are so sloppy...check out the junkyard in back. The Voyager doesn't have a transmission (and seems to have been turned into a parts vehicle), the Chevy truck is dead, and the Suburban hasn't run for over a year. The sad thing is that they are still making car payments on the Voyager!

Iron Maiden is not hair metal. I've heard people call Metallica hair metal before too. "Hair metal" is Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison, Winger, Dokken, etc...although glam metal is a more specific term for the genre. Iron Maiden was a straight up heavy metal band. Just because a band had long hair does not make them a hair metal band. :AH-HA_wink: But to each his own. I used to hate 80s music up until I was about a sophomore in high school, then I actually started "listening" to it and now it's the decade I like the most. I just can't find anything redeeming about modern rock besides a few bands that stand out here and there. The 80s had a lot of cliches, but the music was fun, loud, unrestrained party rock.

Even though a little part of me is happy to see the Japanese piling on the incentives...but I would much rather see Honda make a sale than Toyota. The more sales that go to the Accord rather than Camry, the better the world is! Although, the more sales that go to the Fusion and Malibu over either, the happier I am!

That's sad to think that the one victim's one year old son will never know his dad because of this guy's action. This guy needs to be dealt the full force of the law.

Fair Warning is probably my favorite VH album from the DLR days. '81 and around there were some dark times for the band and you can hear it in the album (and even see it somewhat in the Oakland videos). It would be so awesome to go back in time and see Van Halen live in its prime. Listening to Only Child - "In My Blood"...kind of a mid-90s Van Hagar-sounding band, pretty good.

#1 on my approximate date of conception was "She's a Maniac" by Michael Sembello.... Bad mental images... HS graduation: "Get Busy" by Sean Paul
-
"Let's Hear It for the Boy" by Deniece Williams...kinda ironic.

This guy is the worst of all, IMO. It almost looks like a practical joke.

I took that picture in 2004...since then, they've built the Science Center, a couple new loft buildings, a mixed-use retail building, another loft is under construction, and Polk County is going to be building a courthouse addition in this neighborhood. But even then, there's still a lot of empty surface parking that needs developing.

August and Frederik Duesenberg, 1920s (article by the Des Moines Register) Two of the world's finest car builders got their start in Iowa. Cars adorned with the Duesenberg name were known for speed, style and luxury. Frederick Duesenberg was born in Germany in 1876, and August Duesenberg was born there in 1878. They arrived in the United States in 1885. Their widowed mother emigrated with them and four of their siblings. An older brother had already arrived and welcomed his family to a farm at Rockford. By the late 1890s, the brothers were skilled mechanics, operating bicycle-and-motorcycle shops, Fred in Rockford and "Augie" in Garner. They moved to Des Moines about 1903 and established a shop at 915 Grand Ave. They built their first car in 1904-05, the Marvel, and in 1906, with backing from lawyer Edward Mason, began producing a two-cylinder model, the Hill Climber, at a plant at East Fifth and Vine streets. By 1910, Frederick Maytag had taken over the firm, renaming it the Maytag-Mason Corp. and adding four-cylinder models, with production in Waterloo. But the brothers wanted to build race cars, and Maytag dropped his automobile venture, later turning to washing machines. The brothers returned to Des Moines and set up the Duesenberg Motor Co. in 1913. The company's last move, to Indianapolis, came in 1920. Soon the name Duesenberg was a household word because the brothers' vehicles excelled in races. In 1921, seven of the first 10 finishers at the Indianapolis 500 were Duesenberg racers. Erret Loban Cord entered the picture in 1926, wanting a sleek, luxurious auto, and the Duesenbergs were just the ones to produce it. The first models delighted customers in 1929; the last model rolled out of the factory in 1937. The Duesenberg auto was so splendid that Americans labeled anything special or extraordinary a "Duesie" or "doozie." Fred Duesenberg, who had married Isle Denny, died in 1932 of complications following the crash of one of his cars in Pennsylvania mountains. Augie, whose wife was Gertrude Pike, died of a heart attack in 1955. 1916 race at the Des Moines Speedway Duesenberg team at the Des Moines Speedway, 1915 Picture of the Maytag auto taking eight people up a fifty percent grade, No other car, regardless of horsepower was able to do this. Location of the first Duesenberg office at 915 Grand, torn down and replaced in later years by a parking garage The yellow square is the approximate location where the 1904 Duesenberg plant would have formerly stood next to the train station. Much of this area was torn down during Des Moines' urban renewal craze in the 1950s 1932 Duesenberg J

Hmm, I'll have to check it out. Looks like it was released just before I went to Italy, that's probably why I'd never heard of it.I've always liked Pull even though it went with a darker, grungier sound. Same with Dog Eat Dog by Warrant...a lot of people didn't like the direction they took on that one but there's some really powerful stuff on there (and just as melodic as the early stuff). The song "Andy Warhol Was Right" is pretty chilling when you think of it in terms of all the school shootings going on today. A lot of other hair bands that released albums after the grunge movement took storm were pretty lame, but these two have always stood head above the rest to me.

Wha?? Winger IV?? Winger is like my fifth or sixth favorite band, why have I not heard of this...Pull was such an under appreciated album.

I don't mind overhangs as long as the rear is longer than the front. I can't imagine how dumb an old Monte Carlo or Impala would look with the wheels pushed to the corners. I also can't stand cars (excluding hatchbacks and wagons) that have a non-existent rear deck...if I wanted a dorky hatchback I'd buy one.

Another who needs to check his ego is Don Dokken. That guy still thinks he's headlining arenas and selling platinum records. I like the music and all, but I saw Dokken live a few years ago and Don was being such a windbag bitching about the music biz. It felt like I paid for a lecture instead of a concert. Maybe that's why he's now co-headlining outdoor music festivals.

LOL, great video and band. I have the first two albums...haven't heard much of Subhuman Race or Thickskin tho. I don't know if you ever visit the website Metal Sludge, but for some reason they always pick on Bach calling him "Sebitchian." Who was it he used to pick fights with back in the day, was it Vince or Brett Michaels (or maybe Axl)?

So you've got a showdown of Epic proportions between Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield...who wins? My money's on Hetfield.
