  1. I would love to see GM chop three inches vertically out of the entire length of the vehicle. That alone would solve most of my design qualms with the Coupe. The stance and wheels on the CTS Coupe Concept is pure awesomeness though.
  2. It's an oven around here. Some pretty severe storms are brewing to the west, so it may be a long night.
  3. Sophomore in high school (2001). What a year that was.
  4. It'd be fun to plow through snowbanks with that.
  5. Thanks Knightfan, much appreciated! I figured Nashville was probably in pretty bad shape considering the pictures I had seen. Right now, the plan is to meander through Illinois and meet up with I-24 going through Nashville, and then we'd stay in Chattanooga the first night. On the way back, we're going to stay in Paducah, KY. I thought about making a pit stop in Bowling Green for the Corvette museum , but it's going to be a tight schedule back and I don't know if there will be enough time. Instead of Savannah or Charleston, the plan is now to spend half a day in St. Augustine, FL. It'll be much closer, and there should be plenty to take in there with all the Spanish influence and historic buildings.
  6. Yep, I googled it and that looks to be what it was. Interesting that they were made from 1961-65...I would have thought about 1957 or so.
  7. Saw some little amphibious car with tailfins the other day. No idea what it was, but it was kinda cool.
  8. In early August my girlfriend and I will be driving to Florida. Along the way we will be passing through Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. We'll be heading through Alabama on the way back since we're going to stop and visit her niece near Huntsville. I've been to all mentioned except the deep south states like Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, so it should be a fun trip. How inundated was Nashville with water? I was thinking that would be a great halfway point, but if it was anything like the flooding we had here two years ago, we'll probably stay somewhere else instead. I want to check out Atlanta, but I don't really know what there is to see or do. I thought about making a sidetrip over to Savannah and staying there for a night...is it worth it? Or maybe Charleston, SC? What else is there to see & do in the south? Any good recommendations for places to eat along the way?
  9. Lately I have picked up running / jogging after having been mostly inactive the past couple years (with the exception of lifting weights on occasion). I started off pretty hard, doing two miles and running about half of it and getting a little winded, but otherwise fine. The second time was easier, but my legs began to get a little sore and I started getting shin splints (however that has gone away). The third time I ran for 3/4 of the route and got home and my legs were spasming, and then sore for days afterward. This was about three weeks ago. Ever since then, I have been unable to run hard; I start running and the calf in my right leg feels weak to the point where I start limping after a little bit. I even started resting for an entire week between runs but it doesn't matter, my legs start to feel weak after only a few dozen feet. There is no sharp pain, and the weakness goes away about 10 minutes of normal walking. Does anyone have an idea what I may have injured, and how long it will take to heal? Should I stop running altogether and just walk for a month or so? I finally bought a pair of running shoes geared specifically toward my type (I'm a mild overpronator) and they seem to have really helped, but the weakness in my right leg still persists. If anyone has any other tips to offer, I would greatly appreciate it.
  10. It seems like ever since they re-introduced the Charger, Intrepids have fallen off the map around here. I used to see them all the time. I think the reason we have so many Concordes and 300M's is because there is a large retiree population around here. Not to say they're grandpa cars or anything, but along with the Grand Marquis, LeSabre, and Park Avenue they seem to be mostly driven by older folks who hang onto their cars longer. I've seen my share of LHS's. They're not as common as the Concorde and 300M, but they're out there. The scarce one around here is the Eagle Vision...I've only seen a handful.
  11. A low mileage 1993 Mustang Cobra in teal. They can usually be had for $14-18K in nice shape. It would be a garage queen though.

    Toy Story 3

I saw Robin Hood last night. Apparently it's been getting bad reviews, but I really liked it.

    Autocross

I'm thinking about attending a solo autocross some weekend with the LS. Apparently Des Moines SCCA does them on a regular basis. I think it'd be fun as heck to do, but I don't know where to start and since I have no experience on a track, don't know if I'm going to make myself look like a fool. How welcoming are these events to novices? Am I going to be the only one with a stock sedan while everyone else has a tricked out sports car? How hard are these events on your vehicle?
  14. -Pretty much anything built before 1988 -Dodge Shadows / Plymouth Acclaims...I used to see these cars everywhere as a kid -Pontiac Sunbird -1988-90 Pontiac Grand Prix (again, another car I used to see often that I rarely see anymore) -First gen Taurus / Sable -Chevy Celebrity, most seem to have rusted away around here -80's Cavalier -First gen Dodge Intrepid, and the second gen seems to be dropping off too. I see far more Chrysler Concordes / 300M's still running around
  15. Alright, I've always wondered this...how do they switch up traffic when you go from a LHD country to an RHD country, or vice versa? Stoplight crossing at the border? Overpass? Traffic guard that lets one lane go at a time?
  16. Ashamed to say that I never learned. I never had the opportunity since neither of my parents vehicles were manual and very few of my family members have them. Actually, I co-worker and I were talking about going in on a cheap 5-speed Saturn SL1, learning to drive stick on it for a month or so, cleaning it up, and then re-selling it on the private market. He now has access to a manual, so that idea fizzled out. My plan is when I get a house, I will buy a 5.0 Fox Mustang 5-spd and use that to learn on (as well as give me a project car).
  17. I've been down most of the day. This was not the news I was wanting to hear, especially after I had high hopes for a rejuvinated Mercury with Euro products. Here's what I don't understand: Why in the hell is Lincoln wasting time with a C-segment vehicle? If you combine A3, 1-series & C30 sales for May, the premium C-segment market only sold 1,700 units. Lincoln would be so much better served with a legit 3-series or CTS competitor. In 2000, had you told me that Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, and Mercury would be gone within 10 years, I would have called you crazy. What odd times we live in.
  18. Got them all in 1:49 and didn't miss any. Though I wasted about 10 seconds trying to figure out how Peugeot was spelled. 1:32 second time around
  19. Congrats on the Cobalt Bob! I just discovered this thread...been kinda busy lately. You said you got in it Iowa...where from?
  20. Rockin band...I wish bands like these would get more airplay.
  21. Thanks all for the birthday wishes! My gf and I are heading to a state park nearby to enjoy the beautiful weather we've been having this weekend.
  22. About the only thing legal here are sparklers and snakes, but plenty of illegal fireworks make it up here from Missouri. As soon as you cross the border into MO, there are usually half a dozen fireworks shops waiting to cater to us deprived Iowans. I was amazed when I was in Montana last summer over the fourth of July...people were shooting them off from strip mall parking lots all over town while we drove through Great Falls. I'd never seen anything like it.
