Behold, The PhUV - Philippine Utility Vehicle
mustang84 replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Site News and Feedback
Standard Taxi could import this for the MCE. :rotflmao: -
Nice ride, looks great! I think these Bonnevilles are going to be considered classics someday...they have a timeless look to them. Maybe you've mentioned this before, but I see you're a fellow Iowan as well. Gotta love this heat and humidity we've been having lately...thank god I just got my AC recharged!

Last night I went to the Kernels ball game in Cedar Rapids that was sponsored by my company (plus all the free food and beer you can consume). Well, I ended up locking my keys in the car and didn't realize it until the game was over at 10:30 at night. I went to customer services and they gave me the number of a locksmith and also a number for the Cedar Rapids Police. I tried the police first because one of the guys said they have tools on hand to unlock cars, but the dispatcher said they had nothing like that (flat out lie....probably were too lazy to come out there). So I gave in and called the locksmith since I had no other choice. The guy and his wife were both elderly and driving a white Dodge Caravan. The guy was pretty nice and we talked about the game while he was getting it unlocked. I couldn't believe how easy it was to unlock it...basically he wedged a piece of metal into the top crack of the door frame, then stuck in one of those blood pressure things they use at the hospital. He pumped it up enough to get an opening, then stuck a metal rod in and hit the lock. It was all done in about 5 minutes. He says he gets calls at all times of the night. $42 for a five minute process. And all because I forgot to replace the spare key box in my bumper.

And I'm sure Toyota is laughing themselves to the bank...

Isn't this the car where the press release said it was supposed to be retro 80s?
-
Nice pics, you captured some great angles of those cars! I'm just a beginner in photography...I took an architectural photography class two semesters ago and am planning on purchasing a new digital camera this summer. I want to get a DSLR but I think it will be out of my price range. Welcome to the forum!

This would be nice if you suddenly got caught in a flash flood.

I think it's sealed too. People may not have known as much in the 50s, but I'm sure they knew to seal the plastic.
-
That's pretty nice. I can't help but think that shape would make a great Pontiac.

I love how people call them "Rollas" like they're something more than a cheap, boring economy car. One of the most ridiculous phrases has to be "rollin' in my 'rolla"
-
There ARE three plastic wrappings around it...hopefully they held up. Either way, it will be a surprise Friday night!

Take lots of pics of the Plymouth for those of us that have the misfortune of not being able to be there!

I haven't tried anything crazy with my '94 Lumina (90 is probably the fastest I've gone), but back when I was in high school with the '90 Lumina I gunned it on the way back from the golf course on an old paved county road. My speedo only went to 85 but I'm pretty sure I hit the Lumina's speed limiter because like Sixty8 said, the needle went way beyond 85 while the car was still gaining speed. I would guess anywhere from 105-110.

This sounds like something straight out of The Onion. http://cbs2.com/entertainment/entertainmen..._162093302.html

Clinton offers Detroit automakers health care aid

I have no problem with getting better gas mileage...if someone could build me a full-size V8 car that got 40 mpg on the highway, I'd buy it! I'm all for technological advancements that will give us more efficient cars. But, I don't want to see a repeat of 1973 where suddenly we're stuck with a bunch of anemic big and little cars. Make fuel-sipping small cars that bring America back to the forefront of the industry, but don't kill off the horsepower wars or the V8s like I envision CAFE regulation trying to do.I didn't grow up in the 60s so I missed out on all the good stuff that you guys got to see. That's why the horsepower wars and the return of the Camaro and Challenger is so cool to me...I've grown up with molded plastic jellybean cars. -

I don't know why politicians feel they have to stick their nose deeper into the business of emissions, especially the state of California. Auto emissions are only a tiny fraction of the world's pollution, especially here in the U.S. where we already have strict standards for air quality. Environmentalists will tell you that our automobiles give off the most CO2 in total...well, it's quite simple, we have the largest market! When I was over in Europe, I noticed a VAST difference in the quality of air there vs. here, and not for the better. In the urban centers of Italy, you would walk around town with diesel lung from all the little Fiats and Pugeots puttering around. The difference in air quality here is very noticeable. I read somewhere that one volcano eruption gives off enough pollutants to equal a good percentage of American auto emissions over the course of the year, and there are usually 20-30 volcano eruptions annually. Look at China who has virtually no air regulations and constant brown pea soup that hangs over their cities. The real issue, especially for states like California, is instead of blaming the automakers for the endless amount of smog they need to stop the population sprawl that consumes vast resources. LA is still spreading out into the desert like a wildfire. They need to put the pedal to the metal to develop smart-growth communities and put more funding toward mass transit rather than widening the freeway. It's just common sense. Even Omaha, Nebraska, is looking to put in a light rail line that would stretch to Lincoln, and they only have a metro area of 800,000. I've heard about the high speed train that will connect the northern and southern part of the state, but what are metro areas like LA and San Diego doing to combat sprawl? Basically, I don't want to be forced into some little fuel-miser go kart because of CAFE. Like 'blu said, let the market decide. Idiotic legislation such CAFE calling carbon dioxide a "pollutant" shows how out of touch politicians are with reality. -
Ocn, have you posted any pics of your truck yet? That combo is my favorite truck combo too...I'm not really a fan of extra long beds or crew cabs. If I ever got bought a truck, it would be a GMC with the same configuration and in black.

I was driving my old job's E-350 refrigerated van to pick up a load of beef and you know how birds often swoop low over the highway? Well, little yellow bird swooped into the hood of the van and got stuck in the windshield wiper right in front of my face. It was still twitching a little and I tried running the wiper to see if it would fall off, but it was stuck (and smearing). Pretty disgusting. So I pulled over and grabbed some paper towels and picked it out of there. The bird was dead by that time...I felt pretty bad for the poor little guy.

I can't contain myself...rush to your Canadian Toyota dealer to pick up the special 20th Anniversary Edition Corolla! Toyota really went all-out on this one! http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WW...s100002e%2ehtml

That was funny, I love how un-PC they are. Tell it like it is!

I dunno, Illusion I & II has its moments. It was a lot more theatrical, but there were also some really heavy tunes. Coma, Get in the Ring, Double Talkin' Jive, Garden of Eden, etc. Spaghetti had its moments too. They weren't as thoroughly consistent as Appetite, but Axl still had energy...unlike Chinese Democracy where he sounds tired and washed up (from what I've listened to).

How long is a '76 LeSabre compared to a '76 Electra? I thought I read once that the '76 Electra was even longer than the Caddy DeVille at the time. Profile shots make it look huge...as the one short guy from Top Gear would say "It takes a really long time to walk around it!"

Beans, beans, they're good for your heart...the more ya eat, the more ya... Interesting article! I wish the images would work, because I have a feeling this thing is tiny.
