  1. That wasn't even long enough for a lunch break.
  2. If they really want to sell these it needs a basket somewhere for people to put their shopping, like those scooters overweight, lazy or mature-aged people use to mow people down in shopping malls.
  3. This is a near-production concept for the next Japanese-market luxury van (Alphard). Nissan had their concept in 2005. More photos at AutoReport.
  4. Is this the end for the geriatric Vanette-badged Mazda Bongo?
  5. When asked why he is working with Suzuki's arch-rival, Raita refused to comment on record, but was heard to mutter, "Where are my Suzuki shares eh? Thieving @#%*!!, I showed them."
  6. I could have sworn I posted this days ago.
  7. They should be charged with attempted murder. It's like firing a gun into a pedestrian mall but saying "I wasn't aiming at anyone."
  8. Ehh, I do have larger interior and exterior shots of the CR-Z, Puyo and Inspire (Japanese version of Accord). Yes it looks even more like a bug when the doors are open.

  12. The new Zetas such as the G8 are officially E-bodies.
  13. Well, three outlets in the US (not counting Hino), but four in Europe, two in most other markets and, let's see, six in Japan.Toyota's global brands/dealer networks Netz (JDM-own badging)-progressive, youthful Toyota Corolla (not just a car, but a whole division which includes Camry) Toyopet (JDM)-premium, sporting (withdrawn from North America due to shoddy quality) Toyota-conservative, premium (JDM), catch-all (global) Lexus-Global luxury Daihatsu-We do compact/mini-Eurasia (withdrawn from Americas and Australasia), some subcompact and larer models shared with Toyota Perodua-cheaper versions of Daihatsus (Eurasia) Hino-commercial vehicles Scion-youthful (North America). This doesn't count alliance partners in China building Toyotas under their own brands. DYK—Honda will add a third brand just for the Chinese market? —Mazda tried to emulate Toyota's multichannel strategy (with Autozam, efini, and Eunos brands in addition to Mazda) for a few years, and tried launching Eunos as a Lexus rival in some markets before running out of money? —Honda tried a multichannel strategy at the same time, which it is still unwinding, selling different models (all badged Honda) through separate dealer networks?
  14. Where have you been? http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=20103
  15. With solar and wind turbines the only thing missing is a water turbine that runs off stormwater (sitting in a downpipe for example) for when it you don't have sunshine.
  16. What Oldsmoboi implies, but doesn't actually say, is that the home solar system is part of the power grid. During the day any excess power feeds into the grid, for which the owner is compensated at an agreed rate (which may be higher than the standard usage charge under some schemes), while any shortfall (usually at night) is taken from the grid. You may think that a home will use most power at night running lights, tv etc., but power usage spikes during the day, with increased A/C demands (especially in summer when solar power is at it's most effective) and commercial use. So, even if you are not using any power during the day because everyone is at school or work, you still benefit from the power generated, without the need for batteries and their inherent inefficiencies. You get a big reduction in your power bill (and may even make money), and the utility doesn't have to invest so much in generating capacity which is only used during the day.
  17. It doesn't require a federal or state initiative, just a change to the county building codes.
  18. They need a CAFE proposal for housing. Let's see a mandated reduction of 80% in KWh consumed per annum within 5 years, and a maximum level per occupant, with steady reductions over time. To kick start housing construction and renovation, existing housing must pass a trailing (i.e. the standard set 5 years earlier) energy consumption standard each time it is sold (with certain exemptions for heritage-listed buildings). Of course this means that homes may depreciate over time, bt given housing prices that may be a good thing.
  19. The basic outline from the UAW newsletter is misleading—the Colorado/Canyon replacements are still listed for Shreveport in the more detailed agreement, but are still conditional on demand etc., and seem to have been pushed back a couple of years.
  20. The trend in Australia is no better. In some segments they are outsold by Mazda, and the day could come as early as next year when Mazda catches Ford in monthly sales. Aside for a few big sellers, mainly to commercial fleets, Ford in the US is outsold by Pontiac/GMC, which has fewer products. I know some people see a bleak future for BPG, but I'd rather have a combined BPG franchise than Ford.
  21. :rotflmao: Some people don't live in the real world. People like this are why companies lose money relocating manufacturing to China. It's complete BS. Sure GM is a knowledge company, and a true transnational (as much as any company really can be). But the problem is it isn't efficient to build product in the so called third world and ship it to so called developed markets. A lot of the cost of a vehicle is in design, marketing and sales, but the engineering and design is much more efficiently spread globally than is manufacturing—you can't get around logistics for shipping manufactured and natural goods—GM needs a local manufacturing presence in every major market—but knowledge work is fluid and can flow around the globe freely. Why class entire regions as "manual workers"? Does Wartzman think anyone wanting to be an engineer or designer should move to a "developed" nation instead of contributing to the financialand social commonwealth of his native land? In this era of energy efficiency and global warming does it really make sense to ship everything you consume vast distances? Perhaps like Drucker this guy should make an intimate, multi-year examination of the global auto industry before he labels GM's manufacturing system "obsolete".
  22. Oh, not a mail man. All those other white and brown and yellow vans have made business pretty tough.
  23. It's a mini Unimog
  24. Oh, and probably seating that folds fully fat, cushions up, for "young drivers who like having fun with their friends" :AH-HA_wink:
  25. It will probably be actually 1475 mm wide, the limit for this class of vehicles in Japan, and have seating for 4 (no room for a center seat). It may look narrower because it is probably 1700-1800 mm tall.
