  1. Alpine? Alpine is a sports car company owned by Renault, but which hasn't produced a model under their own name in decades. Alpina is the brand name of BMW's preferred tuner and customizer based in Germany. This car is neither.
  2. booyah! Autochrome SARL in St. Pierre and Miquelon. http://www.cheznoo.net/autochromespm/pages/index_pag.html

  4. There is one place in North America where you can get Opel Astras (rather than Chevrolet Astras).
  5. I now have interior photos. Not very clear at this size, but it appears to retain the 60/40 split fold rear seat, despite the added bulkhead. http://auto-report.net/WordPress/?p=249
  6. aftermath
  7. If you want to see a rip off of BMW's roundel, look up BYD Auto.
  8. It's actually closer to "test journey". It applies also to air travel (Luftfarht) and sea travel (as in Discofarht - disco cruise).Related English words are: Fere (n); fellow traveller, companion Fere (a); able to travel. Fare (n); way; travelling, journeying, voyage; Fare (v); travel, journey, go. Ferk (v); to bring, to lead. Ferd (n); expedition, journey—the English equivalent to German farht and Dutch vaart.
  9. Volkswagen wagons are called Variant Ford wagons are called Turnier (Tournament) Opel wagons are called Caravan BMW wagons are called Tourer
  10. FYI Shanghai Maple is a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holdings, Shanghai Automotive and SAIC Motors are unrelated companies partnered with GM.
  11. According to the NHTSA there have been many recalls (not TSBs, recalls, some very serious) of the Corolla over the years ('94 was a particularly bad year with three), but certainly far fewer than the Camry, which by comparison is a piece of junk (partly why it hasn't won a JD Power quality award for as far back as I can remember).Detroit Nut, many of the recalls at cars.com you listed are for various brands of replacement lights, a persistent problem affecting not only the Corolla but a large number of vehicles from most manufacturers. Be careful when buying replacement bulbs, no matter what car you drive.
  12. It's standard practice for companies controlled by enemy nationals to be at least temporarily confiscated by the government of the country they operate in. In addition, as a national socialist state, major business decisions were made by the Nazi government, even at those companies owned and run by German interests (just as it is in China today)—even product designations were assigned by the government. It is ridiculous to assume that an Opel plant in Germany even could report to the US during this time.
  13. Toyota's 3.5 only has direct injection in the Lexus IS350 and GS350. GM has DI versions of the 2.0 Turbo, the 2.2 (in Europe) and will add the 3.6 DI next year. There are also 1.9, 2.2 and 3.2 L DI (all dual-CVVT) engines built for Alfa Romeo.
  14. You completely miss the fact that the Mitsubishi in question is global trading company, not an automaker. They only recently acquired a major stake in Mitsubishi Motors. Mitsubishi Corp. has been a major investor in Isuzu for decades, and as a trading company is also invested in Isuzu distrubutors in many countries.
  15. Why would GM have the camo cut out like that if it was a Pontiac? I can see why LLN or Lehmann think it is a Vibe, but there is something else familiar about it as well. Can't place it though.
  16. That is to be expected since Toyota isn't changing the platform for this generation Corolla (they usually do that every second model change).
  17. Most compacts use a semi-independent torsion beam—Astra, Cobalt, Megane, Sentra, Jetta, 3-/5-door Civic, Corolla etc.. The Civic sedan and the Ford/Mazda compacts are the major exceptions. The VXR has insane torque steer mostly because it has more much more power than any other fwd hatch (237 hp v 217 for the top Focus), aside from the Alfa 147 GTA, which suffers the same complaint, and the Mazda3 MPS. Those few with more power (the Golf R32, A3 3.2 and S3) are awd. The Astra is quite well rated for its handling, aided even more by optional continuous damping control, although the VXR may simply have too much power (although even more (276 hp) is available in the fwd Vectra).
  18. Not last-minute. The US model (E12 G) is already different to the Japanese and South African-built sedans (E12 A) this replaces, and will continue to be. The delay is to ensure Toyota stays ahead on quality in one of the few segments it still has a lead.
  19. Or their sales.
  20. That's not a cat

  22. Toyota Launches Completely Redesigned Corolla Sedan and Corolla Fielder Tokyo — TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today the Japan sales launch of the completely redesigned Corolla sedan—now known as the Corolla Axio—and completely redesigned Corolla Fielder small station wagon through "Toyota Corolla" dealers nationwide. … Got to full press release from Toyota Assembly Plant: Corolla Axio: Honsha Plant, Central Motor Co., Ltd. Corolla Fielder: Higashifuji Plant, Kanto Auto Works, Ltd. "Completely redesigned" is an exaggeration. The new Corolla follows standard Toyota practice, with new powertrain options and a redesigned body and interior, but sharing the basic body structure introduced with the previous generation E12/E13* Corolla variants. *E12 Corolla and Corolla Altis sedans, Corolla Fielder wagon, 3- and 5-door hatchbacks, Corolla Spacio MPV; E13 Corolla Matrix and Pontiac Vibe wagons.
  23. You can expect this to influence the next Chevrolet Global small car, at least in 5-door form (Optra5). The replacements for the Cobalt sedan and coupe are another matter, but at the very least you'll see some similarities.
  24. You may not be able to see it at that angle, but the Statesman already has one.
  25. Could be the other way round.
