  1. Anyone who trusts mainstream media in 2008 is a fool plain & simple.
  2. I guess that's the one good thing about NOT driving it to Hollands & laughing all the way to the bank w/ the $300 they'd give you. Although you could pick up a MINT mediocre-fwd-mopar from the early 1990s right now for like $400, Everyone is convinced this "recession/depression" is a good time to sell off all their stuff for pennies on the dollar.
  3. Ok.... true, but for every one or two practicall compromises that we had on cars 4 or 5 decades ago we had HUNDREDS of little awesome details, styling, practicality, durability... it seems the tables have been turned, 99% of a modern car just turns me off like a wet blanket. FWD scarce availability of ANYTHING other than a 4-door sedan DOHC transverse mounted motors computer watchamagig on/in/around EVERYTHING ... I'd keepo going but you get the point
  4. I'd crush more than a few '77 Oldsmobile ANYTHINGS to save a '67-'70 Eldorado, but after '71 it was all downhill... can't understand why people think mid 1970s Eldorados are worth more than a typical POS 1970s car... yes they were going to be the "last" of the convertibles... *yawn* it's 2008, we all know ragtops exists to this day, having mae their "comeback" in the 1980s.
  5. AMEN!!! Screw AC, I never feel the need for it. And for you "OMG the Camaro is overweight!" naysayers, just how much wieight does AC add to a car, I will bet my life a modern AC system still weighs a LOT more than most of you realise. The AC compressor from my '86 Fleetwood Brougham weighed like 70 lbs. Just that ONE component! You guys KNOW how strongly I feel about hardtops, hell I'd get a pitchfork and torch and march into the renaissance center if I thought it might help GM see ]the freekin' light.! --- Balthazar: Excellent point about rear windows & trunks. Sa far as you safety nuts: I'd rather die in a bad side impact (lack of B-pillar) than burn to death inside a car afte the wreck... how F%ing safe do you think it is to GLUE in a pane of glass in a car versus: hardtops or old school sedans alike, have the rear window roll down to aid emergency egress!? I'd LOVE to see the statistics on occupants who die in a vehicle as a result of being trapped inside after a collision, during a fire, in a ar that rolls into a body of water etc...
  6. No craigslist? Ohh.... I see, you'd rather buy a car on eBay only to show up with a car trailer and *surprise* that ONE 1/4 panel that was not in the photos has a dent the size & shape of a fire hydrant in it, or *runs & drives* means "it ran & drove fine before I parked it under that Oak tree in 1993" Or... you can always go to a dealership and get robbed blind by some shmuck with a auction license, cause that cardboard business permit on his wall hanging next to a pinup calendar from 1988 means he would NEVER screw you.... right? Craigslist is where it's AT! (and locally the WantAd magazine) Sure you'll have to invest some time and might get a few wackos but nothing in life is easy. There's a local used car dealership selling an exact clone of Julie's 500SEC, similar milage (ugly colors though) and it's not the cooler Gray-import... guy wants FOUR times what we paid. ---- PS that 1943 APC is sick! I'd love to have that even if I never got it running.
  7. What ever happened to that huge junkyard in Vermont that was for sale at like $3,000,000...?
  8. Sounds awesome. There's no drive-in theaters anywhere close to us... I think there used to be one in Foxboro but even that is like 45 miles away.... which would be no big deal, except for these gas prices.
  9. BULL$HIT. FACT: High enegry prices hurt the cost of food, the cost of production and delivery to market in 3rd world countries, as a result the outrageous gas prices are what is making more people in poor countries starve! Don't tell Al Gore that though, he's too busy rejoicing about all the SUVs being traded in on Yarises & Prius-eses.
  10. Wow... Toyotas are just as ugly in Europe ss they are here in the USA. What self respectig |German buys THIS: http://www.toyota.de/cars/new_cars/avensis/index.aspx
  11. I'll walk for $120,000! Hell I'll even sprint barefoot!
  12. 99% of Modern cars = compromise. Plain and simple.
  13. Sorry to spout flames H.E., ...it's just that my several month long anger/depression over the Camaro growing a dog-damn fat ugly B-pillar from Concept to production has irritated me beyond belief & made me think more than ever about the lack of direction at GM and the stupid, unforgivable mistakes they've been cursed with making for about 3 decades now.... It's disgusting, inexcusable and takes the wind right out of my sails as far as my GM enthusiasm.
  14. Last gen. Pre-LT1 B-body. My Roadmonster is living proof.
  15. I know... but that's going to take some gas money, a few man hours & planning. Shedd Park & Fort Hill park, both essentially in my back yard, would do well for this purpose.
  16. Yup... our central locking system works well too, altough its 24 years old! I'd love to buy the 300CE, what is she asking (just for $hits and giggles) ---- DF: Kind of like when my fleet contained 3 Buicks?
  17. Yeah, that's Arizona for ya...
  18. Can't argue with that.
  19. Yeah, that clamshell-hooded Citation GT is a disgrace to the Grand National name. What an ugly turd-bucket to begin with, and then to make matters worse they glue a G.N. emblem to it as if it deserves to even wear a Buick logo. THIS is exactly why I have no problem owning an '84 Mercedes hardtop & yet still calling myself a diehard GM fan. These '80s fwd bland mobiles did more damage at GM that some people to this day consider Buick to be a lame brand for geriatrics. That Saturn yellow GSX would slap that "LeSabre Grand National" into submission so quick it would end up at an Import used car lot sitting next to a Hyundai Pony.
  20. LOL Balthy, you crack me up. Maybe I'm wrong but i DO BELIEVE the AMG motors ARE hand assembled. When you sell 18K units you can probably pay a good 50 technicians to hammer out all those motors. I'm not going to insist I am right, perhaps things have changed since the late 1990s when I read that. Wouldn't surprise me, I think back then AMG production #s were like 20% of what they are today.... AMG Benzes are about as rare as Cadillac CTSs whereas a decade ago you might see half a dozen in year.
  21. With all due respect it's exactly THAT kind of "close enough for Rock & Roll" attitude that got us where we are TODAY! By that I mean 15 million Camrys, Accords & Corollas on the road! What the hell do I care if it is good enough "for most people"? It was still a pathetic attempt at a 300-letter car! Did it have 300 horsepower or NO... yes or NO. This isn't horseshoes or hand granades... not that 250 is even close to 300 anyway. It frustrates me to NO end whe you guys come in here and act like enthusiasts and then rave about some FWD $h!box just because it's slightly removed from a Toyopet Camry &/or is just a bit more exciting than a Taurus GL. The 300M should have never existed. PERIOD. It should have been called something else, & by that I DON'T mean Imperial.
  22. S'more Mercedes Hardtops... (pulled from my photobucket account)
  23. or... hopefully a HUGE garage (steel building)
  24. The 300M pissed me off since it's 240 horsepower was WAY short of what the name advertised! "300 series" cars were named that for their 300+ horsepower outputs! The other thing (besides the FWD, DUH!) that bothered me about the 300M was the slightly awkward rear, looke like someone used a putty knife to cut off the ass end of a Conorde.
  25. Hell Yeah... the front overhang on that Oshkosh is longer than a yaris's wheelbase!
