Camino: Looks like you can have your Pontiac ST (FauxCamino) after all!
-
WMJ: I'd love a Lakewood more than either the Greenbriar or Rampside, but the Ultra Van has always bogled my mind. How could a 110HP (or thereabouts) flat-6 power that 25 foot Airstream trailer with a windshield & steering wheel.

You got any obnoxious neighbors who have a Faster-N-Furiouser-er Acura or Honda Rice-A-Roni special that deserve retributon for driving around uninsured? We could put the 'Burban in 4WD-LOW & have our own monster truck show!
-
DF: I was just kidding.... and in any case it was not supposed to come off like I was raggin on your car, just explaining why a 5500lbs. truck should not get compared to a small or even full sized car. After all I would not say: "What the hell do you mean you can't tow four snowmobiles and carry eight passangers in your Geo Prizm. That'd be silly. But in your defense I DO come off as a jerk at times so I can't balme you for jumping the gun a bit. I still have yor T.W.C.C.-approved gift at my house, we need to git together soon.

XP is the MAN, he hooks me up with discounts all the time!

Who am I? I'm a two-seater, quite sporty if I might add... (for the era) You could either buy me assembled from the factory or in KIT form. In this instance, a series of boxes would arrive at your doorstep in exact order, 14 packages total, when the first was paid for, the next would be sent, with the buildup theoretically done concurrently as the packages arrived, the assembly being feasible for the average man. And, my "windshield" was bolted to the steering column.

CODE BROWN: I think I just crapped my pants! That pickup is gaaaawwww-jes.

1971/2, When Cars were not appliances and/or politically correct billboards of liberal stint. A "Hybrid" meant you dropped a 396 & M22 out of a totaled '67 Chevelle SS into a chopped '41 Willys 5-window coupe. And Toyota/Honda was KNOWN by the public, as most things "MADE IN JAPAN", to be inferior junk! ----- New Car Roadtest in 1971: Acceleration, Braking, Cornering, Style, POWER, Design, Comfort.... Roadtest in 2009: Cupholders, airbags, HID headlights, extra thick plastic-covered B-pillar, HD/XM radio, did we mention CUPHOLDERS!?

I concur, Diamond-T Firetrucks, actually ANY Diamond-Ts, are the coolest ting since sliced bread, but even in the presence of that awesome beast a '61 Special is cool. This was a picture I googled and my heart stopped as I right clicked it, making sure it was locked into y hard drive forever!

First Retail Production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro goes for $350,000
Sixty8panther replied to BigPontiac's topic in Chevrolet
Wow... talk about a win/win/win scenario! 1. buyer gets a future collectors car (most of it being a tax write-off) 2. GM gets positive publicity 3. most of all!, Heart Association gets big donation -
Dare I even ask for a Hardtop Caliente...? or a 215 powered BOP? ------ DF: So where in my post did you read a complaint? And while that may be "piss poor" for a FWD V6 car don't forget I can haul myself, 7 other passengers, a car trailer with your Intrepid on it, and an 8-foot sheet of plywood on my roof.... through a snow/mud covered power-line-access road. The 'Burb owes NO apologies. The only competitor it ever had (Excursion) sucked a$$ in every way by comparison esp. in MPG numbers. If anything, I explained the truck is prob. capable of 15mpg average, but when the baby is riding in it and it's 3 degrees Fahrenheit you burn off a lot of fuel just waiting for it to warm up. And when the baby is not in the car I like to do some 4-wheel power-sliding in empty parking lots from time to time,... Yes, I know, I'm going to be 30y.o. in three months. ------ P.S. I paid ZERO $ for my Suburban, that leaves a good chunk of cash as compared to an average PURCHASE for fuel costs. I think the truck is worth $1500 easy, that means almost a thousand gallons of fuel for FREE.
-
If I sell the 'Burban when/if I get bored it will prob be to get another "intermediate" hot-rod from the 1960s. I'm thinking a 1965-69 Corvair 2dr hardtop or a 1961 Mercury Comet or maybe even a 1963 (Plymouth) Valiant..... That way I can still get good fuel economy AND drive it like I'm avoiding Cops & Paparazzi.

NAPA is my 1st pick, they're the Cadillac of parts stores, I use AutoZone a good portion of the time because they have a god selection of things like serpentine bets, steel lines/fittings/adapters, oddball hardware & they're the most receptive to desperate classic car owners who need to get behind the counter and compare an old greasy part to a bunch of new ones sitting in boxes on a shelf, even if your fingers are soaked in ATF and you're wearing a pinstriped dealership shirt embroidered with a "Chevrolet of Xxxxxxxxx" logo, stained w/ Lucas Products P.S. (molasses) Fluid, Post-Bled Brake Fluid, 7,500 mile old 10W40 and a few old & new blood stains. One time I showed up in July/August or some other hot month wearing NO shirt, yes I got service. Of course it helps having two out of your closest 4 friends work behind the counter as Gray-Shirts. Advanced I'll go to from time to time, they've bailed out my A$ before in a pinch when some crazy GM, or Datsun or Mercedes part was out of stock at both NAPA & A-Zone. Then there's C.A.P. (Consumer Auto Parts) a local chain that' really hit-or-miss but has some serious benefits...like a few parts that I wanted like YESTERDAY for my '68 Camaro but most places told me had to be special ordered from a restoration catalog or what not, they had on a shelf. V.I.P. Auto parts never seems to have $h!, although there's always at least one hot chick at the counter so it's sometimes worth the wasted trip. (shut up XP it's NOT who you're thinking) Pep Boys I've been to like three times in my entire life, I got some cheap front rotors for my mother's Grand Am there. But these days with most of the stuff I drive, aside from the Suburban & RoadmOnster which both pack an SCB350, I'm often left to making phone calls to "Foreign Auto Parts" & local Mom-n-Pop garages/stores/junkyards relating to my B-59 or other such oddball. I've owned a few GM vehicles that are 100% standard: - 1959 Buick LeSabre Bubbletop Post, Naihead 364 - 1961 Buick Special Sedan, Fireball 198 (V6) - 1964 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday, 364 Rocket - 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, (left the factory with a 327) I think that's about it, actually... the other 46 of 'em were, at least to a degree, semi-metric.

What the hell is the fun in that?

Thank You. So far the Burban has given me a very satisfying 900 miles of service. I drive it like it's stolen, (love to hear that flowmaster exhaust at WOT) & I use the remote starter to warm up the truck 2, sometimes 3 times a day... & about 30% of those miles was in blizzard conditions, in 4WD and once again, WOT-gallore. So that in mind, and keeping in mind the truck prob. needs a tune-up, and some serious dose of F.I. cleaner, I'm getting 8.3 MPG.

Wow.... lame, how the hell do you NOT choose the G8-GT in this scenario... Stupifying. Like the Metalica song goes: Sad but true. My wife on the other hand, will be getting a NEW-TO-HER BMW station wagon soon, as she's decided the TWO-door hardtop Mercedes Benz 500SEC I bought for her is a little shy on space, & egress for a huge baby-seat... She rattled off a bunch of cars that she thought might work well for her and that she'd like to drive and I pretty much said "tell ya what, 3rd time's a charm, let's get you another German car, this time I'll find oyu EXACTLY what you want, a BMW station wagon" ----
-
True.... I bet Balthazar's 4,000 page book has the answer. Anyway the Packard Request is beautiful, IMHO. I love that proud vertical grille.
-
True dat. You know what would be a killer recepie? 1950s Suburban Airport Limousine plus a Duramax Diesel out of a totalled pickup.
-
I'm out of the loop on that one... while it would be great i the power was biased towards the rear, to do it using a front mounted sideways motor would be a very idiotic way to go about it, way too complicated for no reason. It's like translating a book from English to German, running a spell-check, then translating it back to English again... Still.... this car's styling is jaw-dropping. The compound curves, that subtle sweep spear is so nice to see on a production car it's orgasmic. Hell, I'm going to say right now if my wife liked it, despite the FWD & sideways motor I'd buy one for her. Viva La Buick!
-
Beautiful, better yet its styling SCREAMS Buick in the best way possible. I also like the angry face, I've got a thing for Angry Buicks.... Hell I own two of 'em: Too bad this new attractive Buick is still FWD-biased. I don't ever buy front-wheel-drive/front-biased-AWD, & I especially do NOT do transverse mounted motors. I mean I DID own a few when I was a dumb kid, but my standards are a lot higher now.

Honda kills S2000 replacement, V8 program, RWD Acuras
Sixty8panther replied to VenSeattle's topic in Honda
I hate on Honda all the time but I'm saddened by this. Another case of more BLAH and less of anything interesting.
