    Rumorpile: Volkswagen Dishes Some Info About Future Products

    Volkswagen apparently has been talking about what's coming down the pipeline. What Car? talked with Volkswagen board member Professor Ulrich Hackenberg where he revealed some surprises.

    For starters, Hackenburg revealed that the company would begin selling limited numbers of the XL1, a plug-in diesel hybrid that will get 313 MPG (European cycle). The XL1 has been seen testing over the past year or so, adding fuel to the fire.

    Hackenburg also revealed that electric variant of the UP would be coming out next year, followed by a Golf plug-in hybrid the year after.

    As for vehicles that will not be making a appearance, Hackenburg said the Bulli has been shelved due to lack of demand. Also being shown the door is the Bluesport Roadster.

    "The prognosis of two-seat sports cars isn't good at the moment, so it's unlikely", he said.

    While I love the drive train and the crazy high Gas mileage, I find this body style of the XL1 to be a total failure. Reminds me of the first Insight Hybrid that Honda did, butt ugly in my personal opinion.

    Boo on the cancellation of the Bulli / Microbus Redux. I was prepared to put in an order as soon as it was available, trading in my Boxster and Buick Enclave.

      True they could have done better, but then if that is all they are loaned by the companies, who can you blame but the company who loaned a single stage to go up against a dual stage. Kinda like folks that compare dual pane to triple pane windows and complain about the cost without looking at the full picture. This comparison had some valid data but agree with you that it could have been a fairer comparison of like units. Makes one wonder if he clearly stated he wanted all dual stage units or just asked for a snow blower to compare.

      Hahaha they compared a $1700 two-stage Ego to two cheap, single-stage units. 200lb Ego vs 33lb Greenworks vs 47lb Worx. Why they wouldn't have at least tried Greenworks two-stage units is just plain stilly. Also, why not against another real unit in one of Toro's $1700 two-stage unit.  What a crap comparison.

      Very nicely written tribute for your late friend Phil.  We all need more folks like this in our lives. The cream colored Monte Carlo in the montage is beautiful.  The 1981 to 1986+/- coupe was a real uptick for the MC. Belated happy New Year from across the pond.  I'm enjoying the much slower rhythm so far and the people have been great.

      No, I'm not going to weave in any Subaru jokes.  When anyone first hears this, they know it's a good song - it's sort of catchy - and the voice is stellar. But the trippy part is the black and white video itself showing a strange stage act in this grande dame type theater.  The people in the play look like something right out of a Jack Kerouac or John Steinbeck novel.  It all leaves you hanging as to how and why it may all fit together.
