Hyundai Considers Whether or Not To Do A Pickup

      A Truck from Hyundai?

The Hyundai HCD-15 Santa Cruz concept shown at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show is the automaker's idea of a compact truck with such features as seating for five and a unique bed that can extend to provide more space. With the concept getting raves from the press and auto show visitors, Hyundai has decided to investigate the truck idea further.

Reuters reports that a unnamed Hyundai executive told reporters a pickup truck is under consideration. But Park Byung-cheol, a director at Hyundai's R&D division said there were "hurdles" to the production of a truck. Byung-cheol didn't go into detail about what 'hurdles' are.

Have to say this is a Sharp little Pickup. I like the style for this Car based Pickup.

As I have said on the Canyon / Colorado threads, GM missed the opportunity to build a true Mini Pickup and run with it. Now it looks like Hyundia just might do it.

Do not get me wrong the new Canyon / Colorado are awesome rides for a Mid Size truck. I still think many people want a mini pickup for their Inner City living or suburban living with Home Depot runs on the weekend.

    Sharp Looking side profile!

    • I mean, I think the blue on black looks really sharp. So, yes. I would be perfectly okay with that. It's better than solid black, at least. I'm also not opposed to all black interiors though. My Navigator and my wife's SVR are all black and I've never gotten in thinking, "ah, it's so dreary in here". Would I prefer some more color? Sure. I don't hate them though and both had other options available, if ordering new. Buying used makes it more difficult to be picky on your interior choices if the rest of the package is what you want. Also, probably 90% of them had black interiors anyway. It really is just what the masses must prefer.  If I had to choose, I'd take less color options and better materials than more color options and more hard plastic. I'm sure that's what it boils down to for the more mass produced vehicles.
    • I see no reason that there cannot be warm, inviting two-tone interiors, rather than the cold blah single black, grey, interiors. I know many here like the Blue on Black that Cadillac has done, but it comes across as a cold interior. Is that really what we want when we pay this kind of money for an auto and spend so much time in it driving it around?
    • This is where if the IDIOTS in DC ever figure out how to really deal with trade, the Kia EV3/4 that has gotten rave reviews in Europe and Asia for high-quality entry-level interiors will be interesting to see here. Currently on Delay except for Canada and Mexico which will get them built in Korea, shipped to those markets. So later this summer, I hope that when I go up to visit Canada again, I can check one out. I totally agree with you that we have gotten used to a much nicer interior and so when it comes to entry level autos, the cheap plastic interior is not wanted by the masses. Much like technology, young people have complained about why entry level auto's do not have all the tech that their parents auto have and again, cheap entry level, stuff is not included except as an expensive options package.
    • Completely agree. I just don't like ALL tan or grey, but I do like tan and grey.
    • I think they're the same level of cheapness. We have just gotten used to nicer interiors.  Just a couple weeks ago I was in the back seat of a buddy's 2023 or 2024 GTI and it felt extremely cheap feeling. I can't imagine a 2003-2004 GTI really felt any nicer back there though. It's just as cheap, we just expect much better for 30-35k vehicles, which is understandable.
