    Detroit Auto Show Reveal: 2016 Lincoln MKX


    • A Fresh Look for the Lincoln MKX


    Lincoln has revealed all of the information on the MKX before its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show today.

    Based on the next-generation Ford Edge, the MKX looks like a larger version of the MKC with a similar profile and design cues as the split wing grille and HID headlights with LEDs. Inside, the MKX is much more upscale than the Edge with such items as faux brushed aluminum accents and wood trim. The center stack now features actual buttons for the climate control and audio, along with a screen for the infotainment system. The option list includes such items as 22-way power-adjustable front seats, a 19-speaker Revel sound system, adaptive cruise control, and a lane-keeping assist system.

    As for power, the base engine is the 3.7L V6 with 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Optional as we reported earlier this week is the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 with 330-plus horsepower and 370-plus pound-feet of torque. An six-speed automatic is standard. Power is sent to the front-wheels, while all-wheel drive is an option.

    The Lincoln MKX will go on sale in the U.S. with pricing to be announced around that time. Following the U.S. launch, the MKX will be also sold in China, Canada, the Middle East, Mexico, and South Korea.

    The all-new Lincoln MKX, debuting today at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, is designed to attract a wide range of customers in the United States and beyond by offering more technology, engine choices and personalization options.

    Lincoln MKX offers the first high-end Revel® audio system in a vehicle, an available advanced 2.7-liter EcoBoost® engine and two all-new available Lincoln Black Label limited-edition designer themes.

    “We are focused on delivering engaging and refined luxury vehicles with innovative and thoughtful technologies,” said Kumar Galhotra, president of Lincoln. “The all-new Lincoln MKX reflects that focus.”

    The all-new Lincoln MKX goes on sale first in the United States this fall, followed by other markets including China, Canada, the Middle East, Mexico and South Korea.

    The Lincoln MKX further strengthens Lincoln’s position in the global midsize premium utility segment, which represents 11 percent of the global automotive luxury market and is expected to grow to 12 percent by 2018.* It is the one of the largest luxury segments in the United States, representing about one-quarter of the retail luxury automotive market.

    More power, greater agility

    Leading the engine choices for the new Lincoln MKX is the available advanced 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged Ti-VCT EcoBoost V6. It is projected to deliver more than 330 horsepower and more than 370 lb.-ft. of torque, based on preliminary test data.

    The standard engine is a 3.7-liter V6, projected to deliver 300 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, based on preliminary test data.

    Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with push-button shift and SelectShift®. Front-wheel drive is standard, with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive optional.

    The addition of the integral link rear suspension, upgrades to the body structure and chassis components, make the new model the best-handling, best-riding and quietest Lincoln MKX ever.

    Available Lincoln Drive Control, a suite of ride-enhancing technologies, optimizes performance and offers three distinct modes: Normal, Sport and Comfort.

    The Lincoln MKX has standard electric power-assisted steering and is the first Lincoln to offer adaptive steering.

    “The new 2.7-liter EcoBoost adds a new level of performance to the all-new Lincoln MKX,” said Chief Program Engineer Elaine Bannon. “The focus is on delivering a total personalized luxury experience for our client: performance, quiet ride, power and technologies that make life easier, all in an environment wrapped in rich materials.”

    A host of helpful driver aids and technologies are available, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping system, blind spot information system, cross-traffic alert and a height-adjustable hands-free power liftgate.

    360-degree camera, enhanced park assist

    Several available technologies, starting with the 360-degree camera, a first for Lincoln in the MKX, help make all kinds of low-speed parking situations easier.

    The available front camera deploys from behind the Lincoln Star badging between the two front grilles. The camera system also offers a 180-degree split view, which can be helpful in looking out in cross-traffic situations. The 360-degree view shows up to 7 feet all around the vehicle.

    Lincoln MKX has an ultrasonic sensing system with 12 sensors enabling the full range of available parking-assist features: front rear side sensing, perpendicular and parallel parking assist and park out assist.

    Key driver assist and safety innovations added

    The all-new Lincoln MKX adds pre-collision assist, which may help avoid or lessen the severity some frontal crashes with another vehicle or pedestrian in certain situations and conditions. If the system detects another vehicle or pedestrian, the system will first provide a collision warning and then the system will automatically apply braking if the driver has not taken any corrective action.

    Also new is the Auto Hold feature, which relieves the driver from having to press the brake pedal continuously to keep the vehicle stationary in traffic. Auto Hold releases the brakes when the accelerator pedal is pressed.

    First for Lincoln, to enhance driver visibility, available LED headlamps include a feature that adapts when accelerating from 0 to 35 mph by adding width to the low-beam pattern through the use of additional LED reflector elements.

    Elegance in motion

    The exterior design is dramatic, with a modern, contemporary silhouette and well-balanced proportions. Available adaptable full-LED front headlamps are subtly executed as blades, rather than projectors, aligned with the horizontal orientation of the split-wing grille.

    The interior design language creates an open yet cocoon-like environment that is as quiet as it is beautiful. The push-button gear shift creates a dramatic open suspension bridge that flows from the instrument panel to the center console, providing two tiers of open space.

    Elevated personalized luxury experiences

    New available 22-way adjustable front seats with active motion help reduce muscle fatigue in the upper legs and lower back through six adjustable air bladders in the cushion and five adjustable air bladders in the lower seat back.

    Further adjustments can be made through the four-way power head restraint and the power thigh extender. The thigh bolster deflates to make exit easier and reinflates after entry to the previous setting.

    Always-on, built-in connectivity is provided through an available embedded modem. Via a smartphone app that communicates with the vehicle, the available MyLincoln Mobile™ app gives owners the ability to start, lock, unlock and locate their vehicle, as well as schedule a remote start.**

    Exclusive Revel sound system

    Uncompromising acoustics and award-winning home theater audio quality comes to the Lincoln MKX through the available Revel audio system.

    The Revel Ultima system is standard on Lincoln Black Label editions and available on Reserve models. It features 19 speakers with point source architecture, positioning the tweeter and midrange speakers close together for superior audio quality.

    Further performance and refinement is provided by QuantumLogic® Surround Sound technology, which offers three listening modes – stereo, audience and on stage; patented Clari-Fi™ technology offering advanced, real-time music reconstruction for all compressed audio sources; and a 20-channel high-voltage hybrid amplifier for class-leading dynamics and optimized transparency.

    A 13-speaker Revel system designed for the ultimate audio quality experience is available on the all-new Lincoln MKX Select and Reserve.

    Two new Black Label themes

    Lincoln Black Label will be available at launch with four designer themes – two of which are all-new. One is inspired by the fashion, lifestyle and art scene of 1920s Paris, while the excitement, passion and pageantry of high-stakes thoroughbred horse racing create the vision for the second new theme.

    Modern Heritage and Indulgence also will be available on the new Lincoln MKX.

    Upgraded Lincoln Experiences

    When the driver with key fob is within approximately 9 feet, the lower LED daytime running lights gently brighten, while “welcome mat” is projected on the ground from the folded mirrors. Door handles are illuminated, too, tuned to the exterior color.

    Interior sequential lighting begins at the footwell, then illuminates the cupholders, pass-through, instrument panel, front door handles, front map pockets and rear doors. The lighting goes off in reverse order.

    Pass, This is a very bland non inspiring auto on the outside and the inside while nice clearly is built for a small person. I see how tight the gas pedal is to the huge center stack.

     

    I wish auto companies would get over this center stack blow up to be a huge island and curve into your leg eating up valuable leg space and comfort.

     

    Nice interior but I have reservations till I sit in the car. Exterior is a bland pass. Not impressed at all.

    I just don't care for the direction Lincoln has headed.  I don't care for their interiors, and I really dislike their exteriors.

    MKX has sold well for like 8 years, lincoln gets it, they can somehow take a Fusion, Escape, and Edge and hit paydirt charging 20k more for a repackaged Ford cousin.  Lincoln gets that pretending to go toe to toe with the Germans and sport sedans doesn't move the metal.  Puff cruisers and Lexus RX knockoffs are the way to go.  SRX Vue could learn something from MKx

    Cadillac sold 53,000 SRXes in 2014 while Lincoln sold 23,000 MKXes in 2014,  In fact, the SRX outsold the Q5 (42k), GLK (35k), X3 (33k), RDX (33k), and QX60 (31k). 

     

    Exactly what lesson should Cadillac learn from Lincoln again?

      I haven't really started a running thread for the new car yet so here it is. I think I owned the car for 8 days when I had my windows tinted 20% all the way around. I cannot stand driving a car w/o tint or the look of a vehicle w/o tint.
      This is about the only "before" picture I have of it.

      Only a few days and $270 later...
      There was actually one thing I bought prior to buying a car that I wanted in my next vehicle... a dash cam. After the accident and knowing that had I not had a witness stop and give their side of the story it could have been a hell hole of he-said she-said.. So I did a little research and bought a Spytec A119 w/ the GPS(you can get it w/o the GPS). Super clean and muuuuch easier install than I expected. The only wires exposed are coming from the center console down and then again from the headliner to the cam itself. The rest is completely hidden.


      A view from the driver's seat... I don't see it at all. That's exactly what I wanted to keep it from being a distraction.

      This past week I finally ordered and received my wheels and tires. This is the first vehicle I've ever actually gone through with changing them as I've always wanted to on all of my vehicles.
      I went with a 18x8 Konig Oversteer wrapped in a 225/45ZR18 Continental ExtremeContact DW. I'll be using the OE setup for the winter months.
      I'll get better pictures of the wheels when I get home.

      OE wheel/tire combo = 47lbs

      New wheel/tire combo = 42.5lbs

       
      I think the only other thing that I would really like to do is wrap the chrome door outline in black or a black chrome.

      Another big reveal at the 2017 New York Auto Show this year… and we do mean BIG… is the 2018 Lincoln Navigator.  While it technically shares its platform with the new 2018 Ford Expedition that was released at the Chicago Auto Show, the Navigator somehow manages to look bigger.   Up front is a bold and impressive grille that moves the Navigator to the new family face shared by the Lincoln Continental and Lincoln MKZ.  Everything about the exterior is brash. It has giant turbine-look wheels, large fender vents, and full-width LED lights. This is not subtle luxury, yet it pulls off the look without being tacky. This is the new American version of “I’ve Made It”. Cadillac, you have some work cut out for you. 
      The interior is nothing short of stunning. All the materials feel high quality. There may be an excess of buttons (I count 27 on the driver’s door alone), but it’s a Navigator… excess is the whole point. There are available 30 way power seats, be prepared to take a couple hours to get them exactly right, but once you’re there, you won’t want to leave.  If you elect the rear bucket seats, rear seat passengers will have a comfortable ride and have some control over the entertainment system from their own center console. One flaw I found was that in models equipped with rear seat video entertainment, the second row can flip forward and hit the screens when laying the second-row flat…. Not something I expect to happen too often.
      The new Navigator is powered by a 450 horsepower Ecoboost V6 passing power through a new 10 speed automatic to either the rear wheels or an available AWD system. 
      Pricing on the 2018 Navigator hasn’t been released yet, however we expect an appropriate increase over the discount pricing on the 2017 model.

But it was quickly overshadowed by the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and others. Last Night in New York, Lincoln introduced an all-new Navigator that will hopefully put it and the Lincoln brand as a whole back in the spotlight.
      We're glad to see Lincoln keeping most of the design of the Navigator concept shown last year. That includes the large, intricate chrome grille; turbine-style wheels, side vents on the fenders, and a slightly rounded shape. Like its sister model, the Ford Expedition, the 2018 Navigator uses aluminum body panels to drop 200 pounds.
      The interior shares nothing with the Expedition. Instead, Lincoln is borrowing some pieces from the Continental sedan. The dashboard is low and features plenty of wood and leather. There is a lot of tech on offer with a floating touchscreen featuring SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility; a reconfigurable 12-inch instrument cluster, 20-speaker Revel II sound system, WiFi hotspot, six USB ports, four 12-volt outlets, and a 120-volt outlet.
      The 30-way-adjustable Perfect Position Seats with heating, cooling, and massage functions is available for the front seats. A bench seat or a set of captain chairs is available for the second row.

      At night, interior ambient lights sequentially illuminate each of the SUV’s three rows. During the day, a panoramic roof fills the cabin with natural light.
      A twin-turbo V6 engine projected to produce 450 horsepower provides smooth power whenever you need it, delivered through a 10-speed transmission. Navigator’s lighter, high-strength aluminum-alloy body removes nearly 200 pounds, helping create a more refined ride.
      Additional weight savings have been reinvested in features such as towing capability and quietness. For example, laminated front and side glass contributes to the quietest Navigator cabin ever.
      The all-new Navigator offers speed-dependent adaptive lighting, a new Lincoln technology that provides a wider spread of light at lower speeds for increased visibility – helpful when driving through residential areas. As the vehicle accelerates, the beam of light narrows to help eliminate the glare off signs or other distractions.
      Beneath the sleek interior are inclination and intrusion sensors, which trigger an alarm if someone attempts to move or enter the vehicle.

      Inside, spaciousness comes in all three rows, including storage in each to keep the cabin clean and organized. Even with the vehicle parked on an incline, the feature ensures groceries won’t roll out when the liftgate is opened.
      The interior layout is clean and uncluttered, with a simple, soothing ambience.
      “When designing the Navigator, we put an emphasis on ultra-luxury touch points,” says David Woodhouse, Lincoln design director. “We took everything the client would see and touch, and made sure it would look and feel a little more exuberant, a little more indulgent and incredibly beautiful.”
      Staying connected is easy in the all-new Navigator with six USB ports, four 12-volt power outlets and a 110-volt plug. An available wireless phone charger in the first-row center console media bin eliminates tangled cords.
      The client experience is further elevated through Lincoln’s new Personal Profile. It uses the key fob to recall individual driver preferences for adapting seat, mirror and pedal positions, as well as climate control and entertainment settings.
      For owners desiring a more personalized look, Navigator comes with three Lincoln Black Label options – an exclusive collection of interior design themes and materials, plus a host of membership privileges.
      FIRST-CLASS SEATING FOR ALL
      Even when the all-new Navigator is fully packed, each occupant can sit in comfort. The driver and front-seat passenger enjoy Perfect Position Seats, which offer massage, heating and cooling functionality, and can be adjusted up to 30 different ways.
      Standard SYNC® 3 with both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility enables clients to manage audio, phone, navigation and more from the vehicle touch screen or steering wheel-mounted controls. Second-row passengers have their own audio and climate control, while third-row seats feature power recline capability.
      An available rear-seat entertainment system allows passengers to stream content wirelessly with an Android device to one of the 10-inch adjustable screens mounted on the rear of the front seats. Content also can be accessed through more traditional devices like an SD card, an HDMI cord or a USB, as well as through SYNC AppLink™, which permits the front-seat passenger to monitor and select viewing content.
      Each screen can display different content, allowing a personalized entertainment experience for every passenger. Through Lincoln’s agreement with Sling Media, those who own a Slingbox can access their TV channels on the go. The standard Wi-Fi allows for up to 10 mobile devices at a time to be connected.

      Clients can enjoy available Revel® Ultima audio with 20 speakers that work in concert with Navigator’s interior design and acoustics. This transforms the cabin into a personal theater with three distinct listening modes – stereo, audience and on-stage.
      FAMILY-FRIENDLY TECHNOLOGY
      Navigator is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. A 12-inch configurable instrument cluster allows drivers to choose the information they want displayed. An available Head-Up Display can show selected information on the windshield instead of the instrument cluster. This helps drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
      It’s also easy to adjust to changing conditions. With the turn of a dial, the driver can adapt the Navigator to changing road or weather, and enjoy a smooth, confident ride.

      A twin-turbo V6 engine projected to produce 450 horsepower provides smooth power whenever you need it, delivered through a 10-speed transmission. Navigator’s lighter, high-strength aluminum-alloy body removes nearly 200 pounds, helping create a more refined ride.
      Additional weight savings have been reinvested in features such as towing capability and quietness. For example, laminated front and side glass contributes to the quietest Navigator cabin ever.
      The all-new Navigator offers speed-dependent adaptive lighting, a new Lincoln technology that provides a wider spread of light at lower speeds for increased visibility – helpful when driving through residential areas. As the vehicle accelerates, the beam of light narrows to help eliminate the glare off signs or other distractions.
      Beneath the sleek interior are inclination and intrusion sensors, which trigger an alarm if someone attempts to move or enter the vehicle.
      SPACIOUS, LUXURIOUS INTERIOR
      Inside, spaciousness comes in all three rows, including storage in each to keep the cabin clean and organized. The all-new Navigator’s advanced cargo management system offers an adjustable shelf behind the rear seats that allows clients to create storage customized to their needs. Even with the vehicle parked on an incline, the feature ensures groceries won’t roll out when the liftgate is opened.
      The interior layout is clean and uncluttered, with a simple, soothing ambience.
      “When designing the Navigator, we put an emphasis on ultra-luxury touch points,” says David Woodhouse, Lincoln design director. “We took everything the client would see and touch, and made sure it would look and feel a little more exuberant, a little more indulgent and incredibly beautiful.”
      Staying connected is easy in the all-new Navigator with six USB ports, four 12-volt power outlets and a 110-volt plug. An available wireless phone charger in the first-row center console media bin eliminates tangled cords.
      The client experience is further elevated through Lincoln’s new Personal Profile. It uses the key fob to recall individual driver preferences for adapting seat, mirror and pedal positions, as well as climate control and entertainment settings.
      For owners desiring a more personalized look, Navigator comes with three Lincoln Black Label options – an exclusive collection of interior design themes and materials, plus a host of membership privileges.
      FIRST-CLASS SEATING FOR ALL
      Even when the all-new Navigator is fully packed, each occupant can sit in comfort. The driver and front-seat passenger enjoy Perfect Position Seats, which offer massage, heating and cooling functionality, and can be adjusted up to 30 different ways.
      Standard SYNC® 3 with both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility enables clients to manage audio, phone, navigation and more from the vehicle touch screen or steering wheel-mounted controls. Second-row passengers have their own audio and climate control, while third-row seats feature power recline capability.
      An available rear-seat entertainment system allows passengers to stream content wirelessly with an Android device to one of the 10-inch adjustable screens mounted on the rear of the front seats. Content also can be accessed through more traditional devices like an SD card, an HDMI cord or a USB, as well as through SYNC AppLink™, which permits the front-seat passenger to monitor and select viewing content.
      Each screen can display different content, allowing a personalized entertainment experience for every passenger. Through Lincoln’s agreement with Sling Media, those who own a Slingbox can access their TV channels on the go. The standard Wi-Fi allows for up to 10 mobile devices at a time to be connected.

      Clients can enjoy available Revel® Ultima audio with 20 speakers that work in concert with Navigator’s interior design and acoustics. This transforms the cabin into a personal theater with three distinct listening modes – stereo, audience and on-stage.
      FAMILY-FRIENDLY TECHNOLOGY
      Navigator is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. A 12-inch configurable instrument cluster allows drivers to choose the information they want displayed. An available Head-Up Display can show selected information on the windshield instead of the instrument cluster. This helps drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
      It’s also easy to adjust to changing conditions. With the turn of a dial, the driver can adapt the Navigator to changing road or weather, and enjoy a smooth, confident ride.
      Additional available technology includes:
      Trailer Backup Assist, which automatically steers the vehicle to turn a trailer the desired amount – meaning less time required to perform the task. Navigator is expected to deliver more towing capability than any other premium full-size SUV 360-degree camera and enhanced park assist, which reduce stress from parallel and perpendicular parking. The system integrates views from four cameras to create an overhead image so the driver can see all around the vehicle Adaptive cruise control, which automatically slows Navigator in stop-and-go traffic – resuming speed when traffic allows *Cargo and load capacity limited by weight and weight distribution.
