    LA Auto Show Preview: 2016 Acura ILX

      Acura gets ready to unveil the 2016 ILX in Los Angeles next week.

    Acura sent out a teaser shot of the refreshed and soon to be revealed 2016 Acura ILX sedan. Calling the refresh "substantially new", Acura is straddling the gap between "refreshed" and "all-new" with the ILX. While the ILX will remain on the same platform, the powertrain is new, the exterior has been more aggressively styled, and the interior has been upgraded.

    The ILX has never been the sales star Acura hoped for. In spite of tweaking the package multiple times since introduction, sales of the ILX are down over 16% year to date after moving only 20,430 units in 2013, its first full year on the market.

    Since going on the market, the ILX has gained competition from Audi A3, Mercedes CLA, and Chrysler 200, while also facing competition from the likes of the Buick Verano and Volvo S60 already on sale.

    Could a substantial refresh of the current model give the ILX sales boost it needs? Sound off below.

    They would do well to give it the 4 cylinder engine/transmission combo from the base TLX with the 8 speed dual clutch that is getting very good reviews.  Interior needs a big workover, and the exterior could use some work too.

    This alone and further refinement to suspension and NVH will do wonders. It's a great looking car, I would say our best looking, from a lines and proportions aspect next to the TLX, but could have always stood to be a bit more premium.

     

    I have fun with my current 2.0L 5-speed car (my 3rd or 4th one now) but the powertrain alone will be a beast in this model, the new 2.4L with 8-speed DCT that is. It's a fun car already, and will improve.

      A couple German phrases I know are ' Bitte ture schliessen' (please close the door, which I learned on the Milan to Venice train 20+ years ago, and 'fahrt nicht bumplitz' (do not drive to Bumplitz) which I read on a Swiss newspaper headline and it stuck in my head...

      I've learned a few choice phrases in German. Recently, a few buses quarreled with each other by extended honking at a Sicilian airport.   There will always be a German or two or three on the shuttle buses, leaving the airport so I turned to one and said, "Die Sizilen ist unterhaltsam."  That means "Sicily is entertaining." One of the first things I learned is "die Sieben-vier-sieben is sehr gut."  That means "the 747 is very good."

      I have no clue about current American music and I don't like what I hear.  I think it really peaked in the seventies, eighties and nineties ... and younger people who come to know that music also come to admit that same thing.
