Volvo's LA Exhibit Won't Have Any Cars

      Where are the vehicles Volvo?!

Auto shows tend to be the place that the majority of consumers get to poke around a number of new vehicles. So it seems a bit odd that Volvo will not have any vehicles for their LA Auto Show exhibit. What gives?

“By calling the trade show Automobility LA, the organisers have recognised the disruption affecting our industry. We want to demonstrate that we got the memo and start a conversation about the future of automobility. So instead of bringing a concept car, we talk about the concept of a car. We will not win the ‘car of the show’ award this year, but we are comfortable with that. Because this is not a car show.” said Mårten Levenstam, responsible for product strategy at Volvo Cars in a statement.

Volvo will instead use their exhibit to showcase its various connected services and tech partnerships. There will be interactive displays for its various connected services, the next-generation Sensus infotainment system with Google Android as the backbone; in-car delivery function via Amazon, Care by Volvo subscription, and more.

Volvo Cars to show nothing at Automobility LA

Volvo Cars comes to Automobility LA this year with a world-first: not a single car on the stand.

Instead the company will demonstrate its vision, redefining what a car can be.

Since motor shows were introduced, the car has always been a centrepiece, on a rotating stage or covered under a silk sheet. Yet cars are changing, the industry is changing and so are the expectations of people who use cars. Volvo at Automobility LA reflects these changes.

How consumers experience a car brand is today more important than chrome, leather or horsepower. So on the Volvo stand, visitors will look to the central space where they would expect to find a car, and instead see a simple yet surprising statement: ‘This Is Not A Car’.

“By calling the trade show Automobility LA, the organisers have recognised the disruption affecting our industry,” said Mårten Levenstam, responsible for product strategy at Volvo Cars. “We want to demonstrate that we got the memo and start a conversation about the future of automobility. So instead of bringing a concept car, we talk about the concept of a car. We will not win the ‘car of the show’ award this year, but we are comfortable with that. Because this is not a car show.”

In addition to this powerful statement, Volvo Cars will show a number of interactive demonstrations of connectivity services, such as in-car delivery, car sharing, its vision for autonomous driving as displayed in the Volvo 360c concept and the car subscription service Care by Volvo.

“Our industry is changing. Rather than just building and selling cars, we will really provide our customers with the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way,” said Håkan Samuelsson, chief executive of Volvo Cars. “We offer our customers access to a car, including new attractive services whenever and wherever they want it.”

Volvo Cars really believes in the power of strategic partnerships. With established tech companies like Amazon, Google and Nvidia, as well as with technology startups like Luminar and Zenuity, Volvo demonstrates innovative interaction with new types of partners.

With the new company purpose Freedom to Move in a personal, sustainable and safe way, Volvo sets the direction for the future. By the middle of next decade, half of the annual car volume will be fully electric, one-third will be autonomous and Volvo will establish over 5 million direct consumer relationships.

Will be interesting to see how many people actually spend time in their booth. I honestly think this will backfire on them for driving interest in their products especially for the cost of the booth space.

    • Blame a democrat?  They want to start a civil war with the left yet at the same time complain why there is no empathy for dear ole Charlie and at the same time say that empathy is a made up word with no meaning and empathy is not only a human weakness but empathy is also evil.  Therefore... Is it really horrible  when it comes to death, regardless of how that death was arranged, of misinforming, misleading, false narrative, hate filled  pricks that fuel hatred, bigotry, sexism, racism, homophobic rhetoric designed to divide? For me...it is not horrible when garbage is taken out.  It is necessary.   A society lets people and politicians like Trump and Charlie to spew lies and hatred and divisions happen within that society. Fascism creeps in and takes control.  The truth gets buried and never comes back.  Free speech for me but not for thee is standard practice.  Political violence is tolerated ONLY by those who want to take control.  And in this case, religion is used as a shield.  I find it repulsive when Christianity is used and abused the way it has been by America as a Greek Orthodox practitioner myself.  I also find it repulsive when right wing a55ho77e5 want to silence me by using my kindness, my religion against me as saying I am of the tolerant left and I should NOT revolt back because political violence is not a defining Christian trait and freedoms of this and freedoms of that.  Yet...the right wing BREAKS ALL OF THE RULES.  Hate speech begets hate. Charlie fueled hate. Charlie got hate back. By his own ilk un-ironically. Charlie tolerated violence. School shootings and public executions. Charlie got killed in a school setting by a very public setting. All that he tolerated and was killed by the very thing he preached and praised. By his own flock un-ironically.  And he did not get ANY empathy as even he admitted that empathy is INHUMANE and evil.  Well, colour me inhumane and evil, but I am only following his doctrine.  About religion and violence...Greece is thousands of years old. Greece has seen ALL kinds of political violence in its existence. The Hellenic peoples have seen it all throughout our history on this planet.  About political violence and Christianity being or not being involved. If any of you do not know what was the Ottoman empire, I suggest you read a history book.     As you could see, even if I am not American, (although Im very close in being one), I MOURN the state of the US possibly MORE than some of you that are phoquing afraid to fight for your rights and freedoms!!!    Take BACK your country!!!
    • Yeah, someone skilled with a rifle in Utah and they immediately wanted to blame a democrat
    • (Notice  I chose old geezers to wish you a happy birthday?)    (notice that I used a donkey to simulate that Im joking?  Because I could be such an ass sometimes?)
    • White cis male from a Mormon gun lovin' and totin' family, Halloween Trump costume wearin' Utah resident no less, at that.
