Trademark Filings Hint At SUVs and Coupes From Genesis

New trademark filings from Genesis pop up

Genesis is slowly building out its lineup of vehicles with a compact sedan called the G70 coming soon, along with a variety of SUVs and a coupe. We now have an idea of the possible names for these upcoming models.

Motor Authority has found various trademark filings done by Genesis for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. First up, Genesis has filed trademarks on GV60, GV70, and GV80. This is for their upcoming lineup of SUVs which first saw previewed the GV80 concept earlier this year at New York. Genesis has said their SUVs will use GV and a number for naming.

We know that Genesis is working on a coupe that is due to arrive in 2020 and it could be wearing a GT nameplate. Genesis has filed trademark applications for GT60, GT70, GT80, and GT90.

Finally, Motor Authority found a filing for the G60 trademark. This could possibly hint at a subcompact model of some sort.

As with all stories dealing with trademarks, this doesn't mean vehicles will appear with these names. But we can count on some of the GV names appearing on future models.

A bunch of CUVs from Genesis is not surprising.  But a bunch of coupes from Genesis may not be wise simply because the sales are not there anymore.  One luxury compact and one subcompact sedan make Genesis look like it is chasing Lexus or Buick, although I have no idea why they would do that.

Luxury segment coupes still sell, albeit in smaller numbers than sedans....Audi has one, BMW has 3, Lexus has 2, MB has several...got to have some if they are serious at luxury, along with convertibles eventually...

They could do a coupe, if it is in the $30-45k range.  Make it nicer than a Camaro or Mustang, but cheap than the German sport coupes.

I hate their naming scheme though, it is so boring, so generic, so copy cat, it sparks no emotion.  At least Kia called their car the "Stinger" that sounds aggressive and interesting.  GT60 is snooze button all day long.

This brand needs at least 3 crossovers to have any chance at survival.

Yes your just stating the obvious, bunch of CUV's, a sedan, coupe and they have the segment covered. Nothing new or surprising about this.

Now if they said the whole product line was Hybrid or EV only, that would be newsworthy and interesting.

    • So three major problems with this car, one, terrible Jellybean external shape, not impressed at all with the style. Second is the buttonless dash having everything via a touch screen and rotary knob, terrible safety issue as your eyes will be off the road more than on trying to find the right option in the right menu. Third is the center pack clearly cuts into valuable leg space based on their own picture. This is a hard pass.
    • Great Masculine shape, really digging the style they did here.
    • First seen at the Shanghai Auto Show (see article: Polestar 4 - The New Breed of Electric SUV Coupe), Polestar brought the Polestar 4 to the New York International Auto Show for North Americans to see in person. Polestar calls the Polestar 4 an "electric SUV 4-door coupe". Outside of that marketing speak, the Polestar 4 is a slightly lifted four-door hatchback about 190 inches in length, or roughly 2 inches shorter than a Toyota Camry.  Built without rear glass, the Polestar 4 makes use of a rear camera for visibility astern. Polestar 4 features a plethora of standard content, including 20-inch 5 V-spoke black diamond cut alloy wheels, panoramic glass roof, adaptive cruise control, 360 parking camera with 3D view, energy saving heat pump, front-illuminated Polestar logo, e-latch doors, power-operated tailgate with soft close, Polestar digital key, wireless phone charging, and 8-way electrical driver seat and 6-way electrical passenger seat. The fastest production car the brand has ever developed to date, Polestar 4 can accomplish a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds and in top spec can produce 544 horsepower. Long-range single-motor variants have 272 horsepower and a targeted EPA range of over 300 miles. All long range variants have a 102 kWh battery capable of 200 kW charging on a DC Fast Charger and 11 kW on home level-2 charging. Google built-in is ... built in and includes Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play. Polestar continues to offer a leading connected in-car experience. As with all other Polestar cars, regular over-the-air updates allow for new features and improvements to be sent remotely to all vehicles. Pricing starts at $54,900, with orders opening in April for deliveries in the latter half of this year.   View full article
