Honda Prologue Is Likely to End Production This Year

Honda's Prologue SUV is likely ending production in 2026 after sales dropped 76% when EV tax credits expired, with just 17,900 units expected for the year.

On the heels of Honda's announcement that it is canceling development of its 0 Series SUV, 0 Series Saloon, and Acura RSX EVs, Honda is expected to end production of the electric Prologue SUV at the end of this year.

Initial production of the Prologue had strong sales with Honda moving 39,000 units in 2025. However, with the expiration of the $7,500 tax credit at the hands of the Trump administration, sales tumbled 76 percent.

The Prologue is a joint-venture built with General Motors at GM's plant in Mexico. Honda has already slashed production of the Prologue and now expects to sell only 17,900 units for 2026. The Acura ZDX, another GM joint venture EV model was canceled late in 2025.

Honda's electric vehicle restructuring could cost Honda up to $15.8 billion.

This is disappointing. I really like the looks of the Prologue compared to its GM counterparts.

I am keeping an on eye on local ones because they've depreciated so damn much. I'd love to get into one of these. I need to get to my closest Honda dealership to test drive one.

Short sighted vision, GM incurred costs to stop / slow down EV production not because it was costing them money as they were at a breakeven point.

Honda was smart to team up with GM and could move forward, but again short-sighted view makes me think Honda Automotive is not long for staying independent in this new era.

Costco is offering MASSIVE deals on Prologues right now, like $17,000 off plus cheap leasing.

I've seen many in the 23-27k range and they only have like 15-20k miles on them. It's hard to believe Costco pricing beats that.

Sure, but those are used, I’m talking new.

Obviously. I'm also sure the lease mileage wouldn't fit my needs either.

Oh, if you're talking for yourself try and find a ZDX. Slightly more range, nicer interior, slightly bigger, more powerful.  Based on the Blazer / Lyriq instead of Equinox.  Just harder to find.

The Prologue is a sibling to the Blazer, not the Equinox.

you're right. I get that confused because the Prologue has the motors/power/battery of the Equinox but is more structurally similar to the Blazer.  My point about the ZDX stands though, I see a few of them out there in the high $27k range. I think you'd be more satisfied with the ZDX than the Prologue at similar pricing like that.

The base FWD and non-SS AWD are also the same as the Prologue, battery and motors. The Prologue just doesn't get the RWD-only RS or AWD SS.

I'd be perfectly fine with a ZDX, but there are none within 200 miles of me... Of course.

Dang, there are no ZDX within 200 miles of me and when I jump to 300 miles, they're more like 34-40k still...

Do you guys have a link to read more on this Costco discount?

I don't see it on the website @G. David Felt linked, but they have a Prologue out in front of my costco with the deal posted on it. I'll see if I can get a pic.

Maybe because I'm not a Costco member, but that link didn't show any Hondas. It showed deals on Volvos, Polestars, and the Silverado EV. Also, nowhere close to 17k. The best deal was 2k off for the EX90 and only for executive members.

Ideally, I'd love the press release green/blue. I'd settle for the other blue or red and would really not want silver, white or black. If I'm being honest though, I'm sure I'd still buy silver, white or black for the right price. Okay, maybe not black. I don't want to deal with a black color and trying to keep it clean. I've had one black car and that was enough to experience the hatred for attempting to keep it clean.

Albert went to Costco this morning and I asked him to get a pic.  This is the very top trim Prologue, but lower trims should be similar.

I am also thinking that maybe not everything shows up as they look at the region your in and what offers are there.

PNW with hitting 30% of new car sales are EVs I think has a much higher support for EV sales and discounts.

    • Some of these famous buildings are hideous, some are interesting with decent parts to them, and a rare few are really nice. The hideous ones include the newer architecture building at University of Washington, Wurster Hall (also architecture) at UC Berkeley, and perhaps the Salk Institute in San Diego.  These buildings are cold and soul sucking, so they're hard to be in.  They also come from a fairly ugly (on various levels) sixties and seventies granola period. One of these buildings would be a "hybrid" and it's fine.  That would be Campbell Hall (again ... architecture) at the University of Virginia, which is definitely brutalist reinforced concrete at the first taller level or two, with an exposed waffle slab at levels above you.  However, they soften it up by using brick on the upper floors' exterior, as well as lower floor to ceiling heights.  The one brutalist gem would have to be the main library at University of California San Diego.  They definitely did not do this to reduce costs because it's a complicated building.  However, it's probably a nice space to be inside because of the floor to ceiling windows all around. It's just that there was a wave of putting up these buildings on West Coast campuses, surrounded by eucalyptus or fir and hemlock, and it was usually at hippieish campuses and their atmospheres don't gel with me.
    • Happy Mother's Day to the mothers in our lives - family, friends, coworkers  She came to mind, so I looked for a gif on her.  She is originally from Buffalo!  Most people have doubles.  I don't think she does. Happy Sunday.
    • Having looked at all the images online, I have to say that the interior and exterior other than the color which I like is a let down and I would even say for a Luxury brand looks cheap.
    • Due to my tradeshow season, do not have the time till June to do any writeups, but Lexus has released their Luxury version 3 row SUV EV that Toyota released as the Highlander and Subaru also has. Clearly not connected to the ICE Spindale grill or as many of us called the Predator mouth. https://pressroom.lexus.com/all-electric-three-row-luxury-the-all-new-2027-lexus-tz/ The press release says 300 miles of range on Select Grade. Look at the fine print, this is a sea level level road, anything else is 250 to 280 miles of range. FAILURE Lexus / Toyota along with the 400V system.
    • After doing a bunch of research on this, it isn't so much Honda/Acura are limiting charging speeds as it is the battery pack total size directly correlates to the rate of charge they can accept. The Prologue and non-SS Blazer EV have 85kWh batteries at 288 total volts and the ZDX/Lyriq/Blazer EV SS all have the larger 102kWh battery at 345 total volts.  Because of the way the Ultium platforms have multiple pack sizes that can and are linked together to make larger or smaller packs, the total pack volts varies based on the application and why the Hummer/Silverado/Sierra EVs can charge at 800v when they're still on 400v architecture.  Because kW = amps * volts, the bigger packs have more nominal volts because they have more cells.  Below is a Prologue example and change the 288v for the Prologue to 345v for the larger packs of the Lyriq, ZDX, or Blazer EV SS and you get 190kW for the maximum (or do the math for the other chargers, as well)
