Trump Administration To Double Down On Emission Standards and Revoking California's Privileges

      Here we go once again

Fuel efficiency guidelines and California's right to set its own vehicle emissions standards are in the crosshairs of the Trump administration again.

Bloomberg has learned from sources that the administration will be introducing a proposal later this week that revises key parts of the Obama-era standards. This includes capping federal fuel economy requirements at 2020 level of 35 mpg fleet wide, instead of the 50 mpg requirement by 2025. There is also a provision that would revoke the Clean Air Act waiver given to California that allows it to set its own emission regulations.

Sources go onto say that the proposal is in the final stages of a "broad interagency review" being done by the Office of Management and Budget.

These changes were first introduced back in April and got massive pushback from various environmental groups, along with the state of California. A month later, a coalition made up of California, Washington D.C. and sixteen other states filed suit against the rollback. Automakers who pushed for the rollback began to panic as this could result in two different emission regulations they would have to meet.

Supposedly, First Energy rate here in the Cleveland burbs is about 5.25c/KWh.   Summer, when the electric bill is higher from running the A/C a lot hasn't been that bad so far.... my highest was for July, $235...in comparison, in Phoenix running the A/C 24/7 in July for a house 1/2 the size was usually $450-600/month from June-Sept.

So you're paying 5c/kWh? That is incredibly cheap.

It's the delivery charge that is killing you.

Yea- the first 375 KW is .046.
I can't complain about the overall bill however; my May22-Jun 22 gas & electric bill was only $138. July-Aug will probably be tween 150-160  w/ the increased A/C.

    EDIT :: 151.79 for July

First of all, it is the vroom vroom noises that make owning personal transportation meaningful.  Electrification will only serve to further homogenize the car... into much less than what it is now.  Loud pipes save lives.

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Loud Pipes cause DEATH, Hearing Loss and are driven by selfish individuals that can only think of themselves.

Harley is a perfect example of a company that makes a product that should have never been allowed to skirt the rules to survive. Build a better product or die. The Noise DOES NOT save lives. I see more people hurt by the noise and freak out and almost hit the rider than helping them.

There is a difference between a tuned exhaust pipe and loud hurtful noise.

If you had truly spent any time test riding any of the electric bikes, you would see how much fun they are and their own unique sound they make.

'Loud' is relative- no one is advocating decibels so high it causes death.
But with many OEMs creating digitized, loud-speaker broadcast 'engine sounds' to warn pedestrians and offer 'audio appeal', the opposite is far closer to the truth- some noise is better than none.

Dead silent electric cars are much more dangerous.

The homogenization of the car is nearly complete already.  The vroom vroom noises you are hearing in the Mustang, CT6, and most German premium brand models isn't even real anyway, it is computer embellishment.  Buick, GMC Denali, Volvo and others use active noise cancelation to remove the vroom vroom noises whenever possible.

Automatic pedestrian braking saves lives, loud pipes do nothing for someone who is deaf.   It's 1919 and you're still arguing in favor of the horse and buggy.

But all of that is beside the point... you can still just let other people enjoy things.

I have little interest in hearing engine noise when driving, the quieter the better.  How about automakers do something about quieting HVAC fan noise?    I like a quiet interior so I can crank up the audio and hear the music...

I mean as long as you can get a diesel that can run on used frying oil, I guess that’s pretty sustainable as much as electric car?

I mean in a very limited use , so every time you run into a OCN every now and then. And you get your noise without being smug about it.

    • I am saddened. Loved him as an actor.    There was also a crime thriller movie with Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery that he did.  Rising Sun.
    • For sure. 100%  I have a personal anecdotal story involving insurances. Although my aunt's and uncle's insurance story from Boston didnt affect me personally, its a story that makes me very indifferent regardless what kind of monster Luigi Mangione could really be. If the story is that the CEO that got murdered was truly a sweet man, then I will have empathy for him. If not...indifference it will be for me.     I have lost a lot of my humanity these last few years I must admit. And you would be correct, indifference is almost always NOT the correct emotion to wield no matter what the circumstances.    Most probably was.  I am curious to know Luigi's motives.  Although I am not too fond of Luigi either. I dont like murderers. But...innocent until proven guilty. And Luigi's Miranda Rights allegedly were not given to him. And...a search warrant was not present when the officers went through his backpack.  I will hate it if Luigi does not stand trial because of incompetency. Justice needs to be served. For the deceased as well for the charged as well for society.  Any murder is creepy, I will agree.  We discussed my indifference so I wont get into that again.  This would be a second time I would be indifferent to horrific public murders in a year's time.  My indifference to both murders does not negate that I also sense and feel the creepiness of it all. Good guy or bad guy, indifference to his murder or not, and we will add Charlie Kirk to this...NOBODY should be murdered.   I agree with your assessments:  indifference is not the right answer and vigilantism is a very dangerous road to follow.  human beings are strange creatures.  Psychology has proven that human beings are more lenient and more favorable towards pleasant physical human attributes than to humans that are less lucky to be blessed with beautiful genetics.   Reality is though... that ALL human beings are capable of murder.   THAT is the scary part.
    • Thanks for this link.  Very well written, detailed, chronological enough, and interesting.  This is about how I understand it. The psychological twists and turns are going to be important.  There will be a lot for psychological experts to chew on that we're not (yet) privy to.
