Tease: Mazda's Slick Sports Car Concept

    • A Sneak Peek Into Mazda's Concept for Tokyo

Mazda has something special for the Tokyo Motor Show in November. The automaker has released a teaser shot showing off of a sports car concept. From the image, we can tell there is a long hood and a flowing roofline. Mazda says the concept appears to "almost to condense Mazda's entire history of sports car development into a single model."

Mazda to Unveil New Sports Car Concept at Tokyo Motor Show

    • Japan-debut of Mazda KOERU and racing-spec Mazda Roadsters among fourteen models on display

HIROSHIMA, Japan, Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of a new sports car concept model at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, which runs from October 30 through November 8.*1 A total of 14 models will be on display at the Mazda stand, including crossover concept Mazda KOERU making its first appearance in Japan, two racing-spec Mazda Roadsters (known as Mazda MX-5 outside Japan) and the Cosmo Sport (110S outside Japan), first introduced in 1967.

The design of the sports car concept to be unveiled in Tokyo is modern but maintains a sense of lineage and authenticity, appearing almost to condense Mazda's entire history of sports car development into a single model.

In line with the company's theme for the Tokyo Motor Show this year, "Accelerate toward our dreams," Mazda will make an appeal for the brand's unique approach to driving pleasure. In addition to the sports car concept, Mazda KOERU will be on display along with new-generation models featuring SKYACTIV Technologies and KODO—Soul of Motion design. A motor sports exhibit will feature racing-spec Roadsters and the Cosmo Sport will complement a heritage display showing Mazda's history of convention-defying engineering.

Should be interesting, like the long hood and swept back. Wonder if this is to replace the Miata or give an upscale option to past Miata customers.

Either way I like what I see so far. Wish the Skyline would go back to their R34/35 roots from the ugly beast it is today.

Anything that bears even a slight resemblance to the mid 90s RX-7 would be a plus in my book. The RX-7 was easily one of the best looking cars of the 90s and still looks good to this day!

Looks like its a loooooong hood  short deck design. I LOVE that design philosophy.

    Bring it on!

    DFELT...did you wanna mean R33/R34?

Because the R35 IS that ugly mess you are referring to.

DOOH  :banghead:  Yes I meant the R33/34, not the ugly R35 current mess. Thank you. :D

This is an awesome pic of both a sweet R34 and an Escalade. Not much better living than this. :D

This is Skyline History and shows just how ugly the R35 is next to the R34, R33 etc.

We were told that a Mazda6 coupe was in the works... is this what we're looking at, or is it a new RX?

I was wondering that but also now that I reflect on this, I wonder if this is to be the starting point for both? A new RX and a detuned 6 coupe. They could with a body package have a plain jain 6 coupe and then have their new RX hotrod.

Ford has teased the next-generation Fiesta ST before its official debut later this week. In a video posted to Ford's Instagram, a pre-production model is seen driving through a factory. From what we can see, it looks like the ST will look similar to the standard Fiesta ST-Line shown back in November. We're expecting some other design changes to make the ST stand out from other Fiesta models. No word on the powertrain, though some suspect it will a 1.5L EcoBoost three-cylinder four-cylinder.

Mazda is in the process of trying to position themselves as a premium brand that you can actually afford. Autoblog had the chance to speak with Jacques Flynn, a lead exterior designer, and Jacob Brown, a PR representative for Mazda.
A key part of Mazda's premium plans is their Kodo design language. Flynn explained that Mazda will be simplifying and evolving the look of Kodo on their various models. A key example is the recently introduced second-generation CX-5. Compared to the outgoing model, the new CX-5 features fewer curves to make it look tauter.
Diesel will also play a key part in Mazda's premium ambitions. Brown explained that diesel has the air of premium surrounding it as luxury automakers, for the most part, offer them in the U.S. Mazda was hoping not to use urea-injection for their diesel models, but ultimately had to give in to meet emission standards and performance benchmarks.
Those hoping that Mazda would bring back Mazdaspeed on some performance models will be disappointed to hear it could be a while before this happens. Both Flynn and Brown said the company's focus is "on making the core line-up cohesive." Being a small company, they cannot take any chances on working a number of projects at the same time since that could result in a misstep or two.

I have one co-worker who has been a thorn in my side for the past 6 months.... but I have to admit that when I need something done that is in his area of expertise, he goes after it like an angry rabid chihuahua and gets it done.
