    Porsche Debuts A New Twin-Turbo V8 Engine

    • A New-Twin Turbo V8 marks a new family of engines at the Volkswagen Group

Porsche has been tasked with developing a new V8 engine for the Volkswagen group and the first fruits of the program have been announced at the Vienna Motor Symposium this week.

Car and Driver reports Porsche unveiled a new twin-turbo V8 engine that will be used in the next-generation Panamera and Cayenne. Loosely based on Audi's new turbocharged 3.0L V6, the V8 engine produces 550 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the current 4.8L V8, the new V8 can consume 30 percent less fuel thanks to a cylinder-deactivation system. Porsche says the V8 engine has been designed to accept stop-start systems and hybrid systems.

The V8 is expected to be used in vehicles underpinned by either Audi's MLB (front-wheel drive) or Porsche's MSB (rear-wheel drive) platforms.

WOW, I am actually just amazed at how UNDERWHELMING these TTV8 engines are in HP and Torque. GM does this with natural V8's so what is so hard about others doing it also. You have the added weight of the turbo system, probably the stupid overhead cam crap and GM has forever been showing you can already do this with a proper Pushrod setup.

FAILED! that is what this is.

Bloated under performing V8 engine with excessive weight and complexity.

    Lol.

Show me an N/A GM V8 that makes 800hp with a tune and supporting bolt-ons.  :palm:  :stupid:

If this were a Cadillac with this engine, you and others would be creaming themselves.  <_<

Nope, do not need to cream myself or be excited as I have never cared for Turbos, Supercharged yes but not turbo's.

Oh wait, that is right GM already has a naturally aspirated V8 with a bolt on Supercharger and cooler that can easily be tuned to 800HP!

It's probably massively underrated like most engines from German makes.

Obviously this is enough power for most cars. But the big thing is the proposed increase to FE. 30 percent ain't bad.

Audi of America sets November sales record on SUV and A4 demand
      December 01, 2016 | HERNDON, Virginia
Demand for Q7 SUV more than doubled; Q3 rose 45 percent A4 sedan increased 30 percent for the month Record sales streak continues for 71st consecutive month Audi of America reported a November sales increase of 2.5 percent to 17,118 vehicles, as the Q7, Q3 and A4 continued to lead the volume gains.
It was Audi of America’s best November and its 71st straight month of record sales. The previous November record was set last year with 16,700 deliveries. Year-to-date sales have risen 2.9 percent to 187,018 vehicles despite a tightening premium market.
November results were bolstered by demand for SUV models. Total SUV sales for the brand increased 22 percent over last November and 17 percent year-to-date. The Q5 was the volume leader with 4,187 vehicles sold. Sales of the Q3 rose 45 percent over last year to 1,613 vehicles. Q7 sales more than doubled with a 104 percent increase from last November to 2,605 vehicles.
Demand for the A4 sedan remained robust with sales of 3,143 vehicles, a 30 percent increase for the month and a 19 percent increase year-to-date, notwithstanding a stagnant sedan market in the U.S.
The A3 Sportback e-tron had its best sales month ever with 394 deliveries in November and 3,691 vehicles sold year-to-date.
“On the heels of a successful November, we are on pace to achieve our seventh consecutive record sales year,” said Mark Del Rosso, chief operating officer, Audi of America. “We are confident that our momentum will continue in 2017, which promises to be one of the biggest launch years in Audi of America history.”

Porsche currently has between 1,300 to 1,500 new Cayenne diesels that are just sitting around on dealer lots because of the diesel emission scandal. But when a fix for the diesel engine is given the ok, you'll be able to get one with a hell of a discount.
Speaking with Automotive News, Porsche Cars North America CEO Klaus Zellmer said that once the U.S. Federal Court gives the approval for the fix, they will fix the affected Cayennes for both owners and those on dealer lots. Once fixed, the ones sitting on dealer lots will not go onto the new car lot. Instead, you'll find them in the used car section.
"Then they're going to be sold as used cars. They will be low-mileage, very attractive used cars, based on the age of the car. There's always a market for any car. You just have to get the price right," said Zellmer.
It is unknown how much Porsche plans to discount the Cayenne Diesels that are sitting on dealer lots. We wouldn't be shocked if there is a price cut of $5,000 or more.

There is some possible good news for owners of Audi, Porsche, and Volkswagen models equipped with the 3.0L TDI V6. Bloomberg has learned from sources that Volkswagen and U.S. environmental regulators have reached an agreement on fixing and buying back vehicles with this engine.
The agreement gives Volkswagen the go-ahead to fix 60,000 vehicles with a software update, while the remaining 20,000 vehicles will need to be bought back because they would be too complex to fix. Avoiding the buyback of all 80,000 vehicles involved in this scandal will save Volkswagen about $4 billion.
"The Court has scheduled a status conference for November 30, 2016 to discuss the matter further. Until that time the Court has ordered that these discussions remain confidential," said Mark Clothier, an Audi spokesman, via email to Roadshow.
Aside from the court, Volkswagen still needs to reach agreements with owners of the 3.0L TDI V6 who have filed suit against the company and the Federal Trade Commission, which has sued Volkswagen for false advertising. Both groups are demanding that Volkswagen offer the buyback option to all owners.
