Scion Won't Be Seeing Hybrid or Electric Vehicles

Don't expect any electric or hybrid vehicles from Scion

Scion has been called Toyota's experimental division as it allows Toyota to try new products and ideas (although it hasn't been used for this in a few years). Now with this, you would think Toyota would introduce some new hybrid or electric vehicle. But Green Car Reports reports that it will not likely happen anytime soon.

Scion chief Doug Murtha tells Green Car Reports the brand is still maintaining its focus on providing vehicles for those under 35, a group that isn't quite ready to spend the cash for these type of powertrain technologies.

“People think that this would have a lot of appeal with our target audience; and it absolutely does, and the environmental benefits are nice,” said Murtha. “But where it jumps the track is when we start talking about how much they might be willing to pay for a hybrid system: pretty much zero.”

Well, if they know there is a market, why can't they figure out how to bring the price down?  I say go back to the days of Henry Ford and figure it out!  How about taking some of the bells and whistles off to bring the price down?  There has to be some way to get these cars out on the market at a more reasonable price.

Would require getting the Gov to get out of telling the Auto companies to include all the stupid nanny devices. Airbags all over, backup cameras, lane warnings, blind spot detection, etc.

It is amazing how many people think driving as well as Internet access, cell phones and TV are rights, not the Privileges they earn. I say we need to make it harder to get a drivers licenses. Way too many idiots out there driving that should not be.

Auto's were plenty safe in the 70's and we could have them as simple as then if it was not for the Gov trying to tell you what to do and when.

    • Because why would you want to take a multi port fuel injected car and turn it into a carbed car?  Also, it's a ton of work (if you even can make the thing fit under the hood) for not a lot of gain, and you're still having to run it through the 4-speed 4T80-E.  There are other Northstar mods out there that will get better bang for the buck.

    • Welcome to the iCar as Jony Ives was the designer and lead during production. He could not get his iCar produced at Apple and so he got Ferrari to do it in an overpriced way. Ugly as heck, but hopefully the experience of actually driving it is better than the look. @surreal1272 @ccap41 Ferrari should have released the auto as a Concept to get feedback from the public as this iCar is a styling failure. They could have take the Jaguar XJ220 and put in an electric powertrain and been far more successful than this iCar release they did without all the negativity it has generated. Does Ferrari need to go electric? YES Is this the right auto for them? NO Is the software and driving dynamic worthy of a Ferrari? Unknown
    • ITA does not have a 747.  This is just a mock up if they did.  That's a good looking bird.  Alitalia had eight 747s and pulled them shortly after 9/11 because of the drop in air traffic and to cut costs. ITA uses the newer A350 and the updated A330-900neo for long haul flights. I have only flown on them domestically and was real excited to learn that they have added a seasonal Rome to Houston nonstop.  This is all because they have joined Star Alliance as a function of being picked up by Lufthansa.
