Recall: 2004-05 Honda Accords (81K) Honda Motor Co. is recalling 81,000 2004-2005 Accord sedans because of issues that could cause an air bag-related sensor to fail, the company said Wednesday. Honda said in a Jan. 9 letter to the government that the wiring harness for the seat position sensor, which detects the driver’s seating position and adjusts the air bag inflation pressure accordingly, was attached in the wrong location and may have been overtightened. Honda said the sensor wire could break and cause the air bag warning light to be illuminated and prevent the sensor from working properly. When the sensor fails, the air bag system automatically moves to full in…

http://www.mph-online.com/web/news/00159 The Accord has always enjoyed robust sales, defining itself as one of the key players in the midsized market. In current form, it's powertrain is widely accepted as a benchmark of the industry for refinement, hp, and gas mileage--hitting high marks in all three. What's been the buzz in the last 12 months? Hybrids. The Prius has won several awards and despite questions about their overall gas benefit, you'll endlessly hear journalists point out who has them and who hasn't. So what happens when you combine one of America's darlings with hybrid technology? Ka-ching. A fairly large (for Honda) dealer i…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 14, 2012 Honda has dropped a teaser image for the refreshed CR-Z that will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show later in the month. The teaser shot shows Honda has made a few design changes to the front end. There's a strip of LED lighting running under the HID headlights and new grille insert. The big changes are underneath the hood. Honda says the CR-Z will receive power increases for the gas engine and its electric motor. Honda is staying quiet on how much more power the CR-Z will, though it does say the power increase will not effect fuel economy or emissions. Source: Honda William Maley is a staff wri…

a continent away Ralph Kisiel Automotive News November 24, 2008 - 12:01 am ET GREENSBURG, Ind. — The dark cloud that hangs menacingly over Detroit seemed light-years away on Monday, Nov. 17, as Honda Motor Co. CEO Takeo Fukui celebrated the opening of an assembly plant here. While the Detroit 3 CEOs set off to Washington to beg for a bailout package, about 1,000 new Honda employees clapped along to Van Morrison's "Bright Side of the Road" blaring from speakers. The celebration of Honda's sixth assembly plant in North America seemed a continent away from troubled Detroit, where each day seems to bring more bad news for General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Chry…

Honda to roll out cheap new hybrid model in early '09 May 21, 2008 3:53 AM ET Link to Source TOKYO (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co said on Wednesday it would launch a new, low-cost hybrid car in Japan, North America and Europe in early 2009 as it seeks to cut the lead of Toyota Motor Corp in the green car race. Despite the pressure of record-high oil prices and concerns over climate change, fuel-efficient and low-emission hybrids still occupy a small niche in the global car market, partly due to their higher costs for both consumers and automakers. Japan's top two automakers lead the industry in the fuel-saving technology which runs on both electricity and gasoline, bu…

Anyone else as sick as I am of the "Happy Hondadays" ads that run incessantly on teevee? I mean, I'm only an occasional watcher of the tube (we don't even have cable or satellite), but I'm seeing those gawddambed ads every time I turn the stupid thing on. And that abrasive music that blares out during the commercials--enough to drive a man to shoot up smack. I really want to strangle all the cutesy hipsters that run around in stop motion in the ads as well. They're disgusting! Jeez, I'm getting old...

Honda is making some changes to its executive staff with a number of new appointments. The big change is the announcement of current CEO and president Takanobu Ito stepping down in June. Ito became the CEO back in 2009 and led the company through a tumultuous period which included the financial crisis, the massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011; and fluctuating currencies. More recently, Ito has received a lot of criticism for flagging quality issues which has led to a number of recalls, along with delays on a number of key products for the company. Despite the recent problems Ito has been dealing with, he has also introduced a number of reforms to get the company back …

While the big story for Honda at the Detroit Auto show was the 2018 Odyssey minivan, there was another announcement that was left as a footnote. For 2018, Honda will introduce a new dedicated hybrid model. This is part of Honda’s overall electrification strategy, where it plans half of its new vehicle reveals within the next years will have some sort of electric-drive technology. By 2030, the automaker hopes two-thirds of their vehicle sales from electrified vehicles. Not many details were released on the new hybrid model except that it would be “two-motor hybrid system.” Honda also announced that the two-motor hybrid system would appear on its light-truck li…

The Honda Civic has been taking beating with reviews saying the car has dull styling and driving dynamics, poor interior materials, and many more reasons. Consumer Reports didn’t put the Civic on their list of recommended vehicles for this year. Honda’s CEO Takanobu Ito told reporters this week that he takes full responsibility for the Civic. "The ultimate responsibility rests with me. We take inputs from the various markets with sincerity ... and try to work out the best actions for what we have observed. Those decisions rest with me," Ito said. Honda has pushed up the refresh for the Civic to 2013 to fix the problems the current model has. Source: Automotive News (S…

Honda Warns Dealers About Civic Supply William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 3, 2011 Honda has put a warning out to their dealers with the 2012 Civic. In a memo sent to dealers, American Honda Motor Co. sales boss John Mendel said the supply will be “severely restricted, with limited availability of certain models.” The memo also states production of the new Civic will, “be at significantly reduced levels at least during the summer months,” because of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March. As a result, analysts said sales of the new Civic could drop below 2010 sales of 260,000 units. “With an all-new and improved model, Ho…
