Bought a couple new Johnny Lightnings today

Today, I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up:

1976 Cutlass Salon (gold with white vinyl top)
1970 Chevelle SS (sea green with black racing stripes)

I also saw a 1993 Mustang Cobra that I really wanted, but the die was really crappily done. The wheel wells were too big and the detail was lacking.

I have that '76 Olds, too. Very nicely done, imho.

I would love to get that blue Olds T (I think that's what it is) and the '80s Olds....but, haven't seen either of 'em anywhere :(.

The black Cutlass is actually an '83 Hurst/Olds Cutlass...I was so happy to find that one because it's one of my favorite cars. One thing I noticed about it though is that the rear deck is too short...it should be like a foot longer on the model scale. But the detail on it is amazing...they even have the Hurst/Olds print on the door and the Radial T/A lettering on the tires. If you have a Hobby Lobby around your area, you should check them out...they always seem to have a decent sized collection of Johnny Lightning cars.

:omfg: that Hurst/Olds is AWESOME!! Yeah, the deck is too short, but I'll take it! I might ahve to weasel my way into a Hobby Lobby today at lunch, the H/O is one of my top 5 fave Olds's's's's. :P I've seen that Toronado, too, it's nice. I shoulda bought it. Seems to me that the wheels on many 1/64th die-cast cars are tucked too far into the wheelwell, esp. the 76 Olds and the Chevelle in your pic. That's probably a physical limitation, based on the thickness of the fender lip at that scale. Thanks for sharing!

I wondered about that rear deck when I saw the pic last night, but I was tired and thought perhaps my perception was a bit off...he he he. Glad to know I was right, anyway :).

I believe we have a HL in our area ... I'll have to try to track that place down this weekend...and pay them a bit of a visit ;).

WOW! JL has a '66 Toronado now! I ahve to have it... and the rest of those as well. :) I only have the '82 Camaro and '70 Chevelle out of that mix.

I have my first JL here on the computer desk: a silver '73 Pontiac Grand Am with black vinyl top. The only detail that looks off is... the hood has NACA ducts, like the '73 GTO. I didn't think GA's had those. Got mine at Walmart. Was being a nerd, leaving it in the package, but if mustang's brave enough, I am too. I'm taking it out of the package! The JLs are nice because they're factory-stock. Hot Wheels has too many modified versions of my favorites. imo, the best way to please a collector is to leave the models factory stock.

I also have three classic VW's in 1:87 scale made by Malibu International: a blue Beetle, cream Karmann-Ghia, and a yellow/white Bus. Nice detailing on all, has anyone seen this brand?

I saw that exact same Grand Am and am thinking about getting it! It looks great in silver.

As for the packaging, I was worried about taking it out of the package too. But I saw them sitting in there trapped behind all those plastic polymers, the Camaro with its four big eyes looking all sad at me...and I couldn't take it anymore, I had to give in.

The Toro's are gorgeous I have a couple in '66 and '67 form!
