Delta Charges U.S. Troops Returning From Afghanistan $2,800 In Baggage Fees

WASHINGTON -- Delta Air Lines is facing intense criticism after charging 34 U.S. soldiers returning from Afghanistan $2,800 in baggage fees.

The incident came to light on Tuesday after a couple of the new-media savvy soldiers recorded a video about their ordeal and posted it on YouTube.

"We showed up and found out we had too many bags," said Army Staff Sgt. Robert O'Hair in the video, which was shot on their flight. "We had four bags, and Delta Air Lines only allows three bags. Anything over three bags you have to pay for, even though there's a contract between the United States government and Delta Air Lines: When returning from Afghanistan on military orders, you're authorized up to four bags."

Shouldn't the Army be paying this, not Delta?

Nice!!!

Go fight our war... At your OWN expense!

Delta does not attend strategy meetings in the Pentagon. They run a business.

And?!

1) They violated a contract with probably one of their biggest and best customers. So they aren't running their business well.

And 2) these people risk their lives so that Delta fat cats can stay rich and happy. They shouldn't be charged for anything IMO.

Is this really the first time military troops have flown home on Delta? I'm finding it really hard to believe this hasn't been happening in the past. Out of all the precautions and safety measures and rules the airlines have in place, wouldn't you think they would have thought to talk to their employees about situations like this already?!

It would have been so shameful on Delta if they didn't make amends. Hopefully, this doesn't happen to anymore troops, they do too much to have to take on anything like simple baggage fees.
