Small car show with some big Packards.

Featured Replies

I went to a small car show on Sunday at the local expensive-schlock-for-tourists store and took some pictures of the good stuff.

No pics of the GTO convertible beside the Grand Prix in the first pic?>

Mark II has such a beautiful, timeless, classy exterior, and such a disappointing, phone-it-in interior.

The Mark II interior was very simple and understated for it's time..interesting how the gauges were in pod on top of a shelf. Didn't Buick have a similar arrangement around '59-60?

As far as exterior design, the Mk II is one of my favorite 50s designs--clean and linear without the overwrought chrome trim that so many cars of the era had.

For '55 (when the design was penned), the Mark II was pretty well in step with the era. It 'became' relatively understated by 1957-58 when everyone else began swinging from the chrome trees. Then Lincoln made up for being passed by with the '58s... ;)

Buick had nicely integrated gauges in '59...

It outclasses the Mark II handily.

...but they were 'tacked on' in '60:

...in fact... the whole dash was cheapened up stylistically for '60, which is why they'll ALWAYS play 2nd fiddle to the B-59. :smilewide:

The cars were packed together too tightly; I couldn't get a good shot.

Another batch of coolness... love the '77 GP.
