  1. 1. Cheers or Jeers?

    • Cheers! Efficiency, price and an interior that's some color other than gray/black/tan.
      2
    • Jeers! For $1,000 it might be worth it as a daily driver/winter beater, but not +$4,000.

Cheers or Jeers: 34,000 mile 1991 Olds Cutlass Ciera SL

This auction is for my 1991 Olds Cutlass Ciera SL in near perfect condition. It has 34K original miles and it spent most of its life in Florida, owned by an elderly couple where it was well cared for and properly maintained. I am only the second owner and most of the time I've kept it in storage. I bought it for my son but he got a job in Alaska and bought a truck there. It is equipped with the much preferred and long lasting 3.3 liter engine (the 3.1 liter engine is highly prone to intake manifold gasket failure) which runs smoothly and has plenty of power. I bought it 2 years ago in Florida and brought it to Michigan where it has been sparsely used (8,000 miles in 2 years) and stored during the winter months. This beauty has never seen road salt. It has a vinyl half-roof, which is flawless . The paint is original and in very good condition, and shines like new. The carpeting is in very good condition, as are the original floor mats (see photos). The tires are in decent condition but I am not aware of their age. Thirty miles per gallon is not a problem with this fuel miser. I'd like to keep this car but I've been told that I have too many cars so I'm going to have to let it go.

- Leather seats and leather covered steering wheel (very good condition, see photos)

- Luggage rack

- Power windows (all work easily)

- Power door locks (all work)

- Power antenna (works)

- Power brakes (work smoothly)

- Power front seats (work well)

- Map reading lights under mirror (very handy)

- Visor mirrors with lights

- New fuel pump

- New injectors

- Manually adjusted mirrors

- Headliner in good shape with no sagging or stains

- AM-FM radio with cassette player (untested)

- Cruise control (works flawlessly)

- Tilt steering wheel

- Wire wheel covers

The leather seats are very comfortable and the car provides a very smooth and comfortable ride. The 3.3 liter engine is strong and provides plenty of power when it's needed. The transmission shifts smoothly and flawlessly. This car has many years of good service left in it, if proper maintenance continues. If you have any questions just ask me. More pictures are available if you contact me.

IMHO, he is selling it in the wrong place. Ebay is where collectors tend to go. No one wants to collect a Cutlass Cierra. No one is willing to travel a great distance to pick this car up or pay to have it shipped.

This is a car that would sell better, and at a higher price, on Craigslist.

I agree with that assessment. This is one of those unfortunate auctions that will likely end with both the seller and bidders unhappy. An undesireable old car with very low miles in great condition is always a bit of a tragedy when it comes to placing a value on it. Still, even on CL, I think it would top out between $2,500-3k.

Correct, I think
