Salesman: Welcome to 21st Century Chevrolet, can I help you?

Me: I'm looking for something interesting and a bit different.

Salesman: OK, What other new cars have you bought in the past.

Me: An El Camino SS, a Firehawk, and a GTO - I like cars that stand out in a crowd.

Salesman: How about moving up to a Corvette?

Me: That's not in the budget.

Salesman: In that case Camaro is the car for you!

Me: I don't know, I'm not much of a Camaro guy. Got anything else?

Salesman: I could put you on the waiting list for the new SS.

Me: SS? SS, what?

Salesman: Just SS, that's the name.

Me: I see. Got a brochure?

Salesman: I can let you look at my copy, but we don't have any to hand out yet.

Me: OK, let me see it.

Me: Hey, this is a sedan.

Salesman: It's a performance sedan!

Me: That so? It says here it only comes in automatic.

Salesman: But it has paddle shifters, that's the same thing - only better!

Me: Umm no, no it isn't.

Salesman: But it has parking assist!

Me: I think I'll pass unless it comes in another bodystyle. Is there a coupe?

Salesman: No.

Me: It would make a perfect El Camino, can I get that here?

Salesman: No, they couldn't position it relative to the performance sedan.

Me: How about a wagon, then?

Salesman: Well, that might happen later.

Me: I see. Any other coupes? Maybe something like the old Solstice?

Salesman: We have the Camaro.

Me: Maybe we should move on to trucks. I really love my old 2-door Tahoe, I'd like another.

Salesman: Sorry, they only build 4-doors now.

Me: The Avalanche is pretty interesting and different, maybe I can order one the way I want it.

Salesman: You'll have to choose from what's in stock, it's been discontinued.

Me: OK, what about a regular cab pickup?

Salesman: I suppose we could order one, we only have extended cabs in stock.

Me: I prefer to order my new vehicles anyway, so that's ok. I'd like a 2500HD with the Duramax and Allison in LS trim, all HD options, and bucket seats. What kind of money am Iooking at?

Salesman: Well, Bucket seats aren't available in a regular cab - but you are looking at about 50k.

Me: That's approaching Corvette territory!

Salesman: So?

Me: I think I'll just go home now, I'm not feeling so good.

I see nothing untoward here.

It's pretty much my story... but my conviction is not as strong as yours on this subject. I'm willing to bend and contort while seeking just a bit of uniqueness.

Code 130RS.

The Code may indeed offer the sort of choice I'm looking for - maybe...someday.

Truth is that choice has been dwindling for many years - and it is getting worse all the time.
