Did you know that the Secret Service can't yell "GET DOWN!!" at the President anymore in the event of an attack? They have to yell, "DONALD, DUCK!"3 points

I usually have 15,000 miles a year on the SS, no more than 6,000 miles on the Escalade as that is our road trip auto. With the Pandemic, the Escalade has a total so far of 207 miles from using it to load up groceries and supplies for the seniors in the family and delivery to their homes. The SS as of August has a total of 4387 miles put on it so far. I suspect at most maybe 8,000 miles this year. Staying home, working in the yard and garden, just not taking any chances with my wife not having a thyroid, just gotta be safe and smart.2 points

Nope, it's a safety stance that Volvo has taken. They want to have zero deaths relating to one of their products by a certain date.2 points

For people who work from home and rarely go out to seniors that want minimal maintenance, the lease is a great deal for a new auto IMHO. I have a Neighbor who is like me a computer engineer, always has worked from home. He works for Comcast as his specialty is the 4K encryption for streaming. He has a 2004 Toyota pickup, manual, manual windows, manual door locks, AM/FM radio. Base model and it still has not gone over 75,000 miles. 16 years old. Crazy, but says he will hold onto it till it hits 100,000 miles. If he was actually into auto's, and wants something new every 3 to 4 years like my brother in-law, this would be for him.2 points

10,000 miles per year really isn't too bad for that lease. I would have expected one of the "ultra low" 8,000 miles per year, kind of leases.2 points

I absolutely hated the C3 I had as a rental in South of France two years ago. It was manual transmission and not a diesel. Absolutely gutless and arduous to drive, especially in the mountains. No gear was ever the right gear. The interior was plasticy and felt very cheaply built. I was extra salty about it because I had reserved an Insignia, but they gave that away right before I got there and a C3 was a substantial downgrade. National/Enterprise ended up refunding $750+ dollars because I kicked up such a fuss. Sure I got most of my money back, but I still would have liked to have had a comfortable car for driving through the French Alps instead of that shitbox.2 points

I've liked Chipotle for over 20 years, used to go to the original location in Denver. 'Chipotle Friday' (or Thursday) was a tradition at several companies I've worked at over the years...used to go to the one at Scottsdale Rd and Camelback every week for years.2 points

Just double-checked, I have 21,480 miles on my truck now. Got it middle of July, 2019.1 point

I used to do 12,000 miles a year pre-Covid. I'm not sure what I'm at exactly because I've rotated which cars I'm driving this year multiple times, but it's def going to be lower than previous years. Albert's will go higher than previous years because he's driving to work every day instead of taking the bus on weekdays like he did pre-covid.1 point

Interwebs tell me “A fatal car accident is practically inevitable at speeds of 70 mph (or more). Volvo may wish to reprogram their governors.1 point

Since probably no one but auto reviewers is going to be taking a Volvo to a track, having a top speed over 100mph makes little sense outside of Germany...and the days are numbered for the high speed limits in Germany I've read.1 point

My dad is in a similar driving situation with his Tacoma. 2012 and it has around 45,000 miles on it. He only lives 3 miles from work and when him and my mom go places they usually take her car as it gets better mileage. She had a 2012 Fusion and just a few months ago got a 2020 RAV4 TRD. It's a pretty dang sweet little CUV. The ONLY thing it doesn't have that I'd want is a more powerful engine. It's pretty loaded up for not being the top trim. I'm not really sure what the top trim really adds to what they have. Theirs has heated and cooled seats, lane keeping assist, radar cruise control, a rearview mirror like Caddy's that acts as a camera when you flip the switch, and of course their neat off road touches like crawl control and hill hold. Daaaamn, so like ONE TANK OF GAS?!? I average about 12,000 per year. I think the average american is in the 12,000-15,000 range.1 point

This year so far I've put maybe 350 miles on my Jeep...and I've been working from home for 3+ years, but this year is unusual... quite different from back in the early 00s where I once put 12k miles on my old Jeep in one year.1 point

For clarity Volvo brand will have the top speed limit, but anything Polestar will negate that. Polestars won't be governed.1 point

The Volvo interiors are definitely on-par with Benz or Audi when comparably equipped. The Volvo design is just different compared to the highly technical look of the Germans (particularly the Audi). I really love the minimalist design of the Volvo interiors and their seats are The. Best. In. Comfort. Periodt. In the earlier versions of this platform, the infotainment system could be a bit laggy and frustrating, but they've increased the processor and ram on them and they operate well now. Due to a quirk in the trade in market right now, we may trade the Encore in on an S90 fairly soon. Carvana is offering $10k for it and for a 7 year old, 100k mile car with a few dings, I'm thinking I should take it. Other dealerships are only offering $7,200.1 point

It's a different size class. The V90 is E-Class sized. The V60 is C-Class sized. Though those are external measurements. Both are roomier than their Benz counterparts. It's probably "notice". The XC90 is one of their best sellers. I see a bunch of them around. The $100k ones are rare though, but aside from fancier wheel's there is nothing externally that differentiates them from the $60k ones.1 point

I don't know ... it's something about the way they grill their chicken, meat. When EPL put out coupons, it would incentivize me to go there for some tacos and whatnot ... and I also liked putting their very tasty mild to medium green sauce on my food. Touche'. This is called "nichemanship" in marketing jargon, IIRC. It's seeing an unmet need ... and filling it!1 point

Just had El Po Lo for lunch. Pretty good. Comparatively, I think Chipotle is fresher. Pretty funny how much we talk about food on this car blog. I think it's usually @oldshurst442 or @David fault!1 point

I have a good local taco joint less than a mile from my house..run by a family from San Bernardino, seems like what I remember as authentic So Cal tacos...in NE Ohio.1 point

Del Taco is worlds better than Toxic Smell. Haven’t eaten at the Bell in twenty years. Sucks that they don’t have Del Tacos here in NC though. I do miss that about Phoenix. El Pollo Loco rocks!1 point

Congrats and welcome to the full-size Chevy truck club man! That's quite an upgrade and size increase over the Buick Encore, don't scrape the shiny wheels on a curb cutting corners, Gus needs much more room to turn in corners ??1 point

Oh I miss Taco Time. Only in PNW and N. Cal. My fav are the deep fried Crisp Bean Burrito or BOB as they call it as well as the berry empanada pie that's rolled in cinnamon and sugar, yes as good as it sounds and yes the tater tots are tasty as well. Much fresher Mexican/American fast food than Taco "Hell". They used to have a TT in the town I grew up in, but it closed down years ago. I miss the Saguaro cactus sign1 point
