NASA's "Project Mercury"?

Possible, then again, they might be far more profitable than Chevrolet is due to their commercial delivery vans as well as a higher end product line. Last 30 years we have seen GM go from being the largest auto company in the world to a player in just select markets. Allot can change in 30 years. Id wanna replicate the 75th anniversary concept if Id ever buy a Wrangler. Or just buy an original US military WW2 or Korean war Jeep. Or do a lifted 4 door like in the Terminator Salvation movie That is what I want in my Jeep. The only SUV I crave, really. OK...maybe a lifted 1980s Toyota 4Runner would be another. FCA hints at 392 and Hellcat V8s for it. Usually, I applaud V8 applications for vehicles, but not in these. I mean, I aint against V8s in these, its just that a V8 would be very very low on my gotta have list CJ/YJ/Wrangler...

I like the GC better than either the Telluride or the Explorer. Good choice on his part.

Before my son bought his Jeep GC in Rhino Color which is awesome, so few so really stands out, he test drove the Explorer ST and while he liked it, one thing that stood out was the excessive use of hard plastics that cheapen an otherwise decent SUV.

I agree that the Ford Pickups for the most part have never had major issues, I have had as my own experience blown 4 banger in a ranger I had for a year, decided to return it under the state lemon law. American auto makers have a mixed bag on building small motors in mid size and compact auto's. Lincoln is starting to build some very nice looking SUVs, but the reliability is the issue and I honestly do not think the launch with such massive fixes required for the Aviator was helpful. I am glad after that nightmare that Ford slowed down the launches to insure the building of said auto was of proper higher quality. Ford Mach E seems to be going through this same lets take a few extra days and insure the build is right from the start for each one. I honestly expect a much higher reliability for the Mach E than what Tesla has had as well as other ford products have had.

'58 was pretty ghastly, IMO. My folks bought one of these new (12 years before I was born). a '58 Monterey 4dr sedan. My Mom nearly ripped off a back door backing out of the garage.. As far as old Mercurys go, I really like the late 60s-early 70s styling.

That is unfortunate to hear...the Aviator is one of the few Ford products I like...I've sat in them at the auto show, and really like the interior and exterior design...

I know in Arizona it seemed 75% of them were white...I see a lot here in white also...just so dull and mainstream. And white w/ black wheels and black trim seems popular. I like the gray on the Trailhawk...it was funny....when I was still living in AZ, I bought my '14 at the end of March 2017, and literally the same week, my colleague in the cubicle next to me bought a gray Trailhawk. We went out in the parking garage at lunch w/ several colleagues and were comparing our rides parked side by side...looked identical under the hood.

Trackhawk in that green looks entirely badass... The maroon is nice also as a Trackhawk... Slate Blue is a good color on this, and available in lower trims, liket he Limited. But given any combination outside of the green...make mine Sting grey trailhawk. Also, the Sting Grey is similar to Ford's Cacus grey, and available on gladiator and Wrangler also. For comparison, Green on trailhawk... And amazingly, the red is not obnoxious on the trailhawk, but not a color I would order this in.

Looks like that color is only available on the Trailhawk, SRT, and Trackhawk. Bummer...I'd like it on an Overland. If I were trading my black '14, I'd consider Velvet Red, Walnut Brown or Sangria...I like these colors and these wheels. The walnut brown is more gray than the brown they had a few years ago..there was a brown back around '16-17 that was richer. So many of these are sold in boring-ass white (I will never drive a white SUV) or black (I've grown to like black). But I generally prefer dark colors....and I don't care for black wheels and black trim.

See they're restricting the best colors to certain trim levels... 2021 Renegade Jeepster in Techno Green... cannot order it in a Trailhawk, which would be the miniature Jeep I'd get... gorgeous color

Yeah. for those of us who like color...it might make the difference on buying a Jeep or not buying a Jeep. Neat how things change over time. I love old maps. Proving that yes, Pigs do fly. Not one of Mercury's better designs. Hard to think the same folks that brought us the gorgeous 49 Mercury also brought us this. Fuel economy is important in any adventure vehicle, as getting away from society (and by extension, gas stations0 is part of the allure. Hauling more fuel in jerry cans or stoppin more often for fuel doesn't add to the trip.

Rivian only has 2 upcoming overpriced lux models with no variants. Look at Tesla- they sold less than 35,000 vehicles in 2019 withOUT the Model 3, and Rivian has nothing priced like the Model 3, only like the Model S. But you can "easily see" Rivian selling 2 million pickup/SUV vehicles? NOW who looks at thing 'realistically'?

charge times, inadequate, all the new tehcnologies, you mention, are they AFFORDABLE for the masses yet? embrace change? change is good, if its convenient, cheap, and dependable FOR THE CONSUMER. 263.6 million Overall, there were an estimated 263.6 million registered vehicles in the United States in 2015, most of which were passenger vehicles. This number, along with the average age of vehicles, has increased steadily since 1960 right now if if annual vehicle sales is between 6 and 7% replacement each year, it will be many years before many purchase their next vehicle. Vehicles can often have 15-20 year life. So, in 2020 you cannot legislate a rapid changeover to eliminate fuel vehicles. Especially when the argument you use is thin, and so many vehicles are on the road already. This is what we call, let the market take care of it. Now, the government may provide some subisidies for electric propulsion technology and that is fair due to 'diversity of energy sources'. Ethanol was subsidized (too much) and neither should electric. It all comes back to where does the electricity come from, and anyone who is a realist knows that our country's complete energy needs cannot be reliably provided from -renewable-(cough) energy sources anytime soon. The only way you can force renewable sources on people right now is through forced taxation. And then, just when they pull the plug on gas vehicles, the prices of the electrics will be kept high so THE MASSES cannot have personal mobility. Gas vehicles on the existing infrastructure allow more people the chance at personal freedom and mobility, which is what has always set our country apart. Forcing electric technology and cutting off gas is really a veiled attempt at restricting personal mobility in your own car. Because they can not roll it out conviently and afordable without taxing the crap out of everyone by legislative fiat rather than the market, just yet. And sorry, the cold weather issues are not taken care of yet. won't be for while for the masses. 20-40% range loss quite common. In a northern state and in particular in driving through blizzards, you can't afford to risk it in an electric until the convenient and frequent charge network like gas is built. I'm not opposed to electrics. I almost got a Volt before, but it was too small. Almost no one builds a truly spacious medium priced EV. I like the Bolt, but its a toy, its too small. Malibu and Fusion hybrids I looked at. Hybrid is a great option but they have to start pricing the hybrids as cheap as the gas models if they want them to sell. I would love to have an electric actually, but not as my main vehicle right now. Norway is almost an irrelevant country. They are very small and quite honestly are a pretty homogenous country, culturally. And they have profited most from oil as anyone ever.

As has been stated, I am moving slowly as my paid off, in show room condition current auto's has me in no Rush to be the first into them, happy to get the bugs smoothed out before I buy. Will be interesting to see as both the AWD Hummer and Rivian price out the same in the mid 70's for what I am looking at. If I win the Lotto then hell yes to a Hummer 1st edition and 1000HP.

Wife likes the looks exterior and interior of both the Rivian and Hummer. She wants a truck as she wants to go on her time to Home Depot to get stuff for her flowers in the yard and pots. I think I would be happy with either one, but need to do the butt in an actual chair test and see if I can once comfy in the drivers seat, get out and get in behind and still sit comfy. If so then winner winner chicken dinner. Not sure what color she would pick but I am happy with anything, will be her choice.

I always liked the 1st gens, they have spot-on great proportions. I guess there's no way to ever see formal backlights again; I kinda miss them in some iterations... mostly because they give a sedan some 'booty'. All that fastback interior space is useless.... it's there for aero.

I think the Trucks are plenty reliable. Just kind of sorry to see Lincoln go through this as i actually kind of like their suv's.

Yeah, my kids in high school were big into martial arts. Badass little chic, about 4-10 and 85 pounds was a badass little fighter. She and my 6-2 son used to really enjoy fighting each other.

Depends on how old the car (and its engine) is. Cars from 20+ years ago require changing oil every 3000 miles. I suspect a lot of newer cars probably need the oil changed more often than the scheduled 5000-7500 miles because of engine wear.
