This is my Challenger. A 2015 Hellcat. GT Spirit and its a resin model. Its sealed meaning there are no openings. Therefore the hood cant be opened to reveal the supercharged Hemi 'cause there aint no engine underneath. The paint quality is outstanding. The interior is equally impressive but it aint accessible.4 points

In reading their website further, it provides an expected range of SIXTY miles... depending of course on vehicle weight, terrain & driving style. This is a joke, right?!? $70 grand, no installation, and a max of 60 miles range? Anyone think they'll sell any?3 points

Nothing is guaranteed... not even your seatbelt. But if you're healthy with a good immune system, your symptoms would have been reduced even further with the vaccine and possibly never have even been infected. One of my part-time remote employees had it a few weeks back, she picked it up from holiday traveling with a big group of friends. All she had was a scratchy throat and a bit of tiredness because she is triple vaxxed. The kicker is that now that you've had it, if you go get your three shots, spaced out appropriately, you'll be as close to 100% immune as you can get. unfortunately, currently, you are still vulnerable to a Delta infection and in a few months even a second Omicron infection.2 points

As this has been gone over many times already, you know damn well you're getting A LOT more than just 70 miles of range for that 20k.2 points

Didn't leave it off, I was drawing a comparison to state registration fees and state gas tax.1 point

I think it is being used for the next batch of EVs from Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia. The Genesis GV60 is the next half a generation of this. Noise was very low, hardly any wind noise, and Denver was under a wind advisory while I was there. The only real noise was from the tires. Fit and Finish was standard issue compact Kia... not spectacular, but not bad either. The center console was kinda plasticy and creaky. There is no gain in interior room compared to the gas model. If you don't fit in a gas Niro, you won't fit in this.1 point

Glad to see that the medical community is watching and digging into what is causing the long term affects for those that do not fully recover. "To be fair, Lightning buyers get more than 33 extra kWh for their extra 20 grand. Although Ford nominally lists the battery upgrade as a $10,000 option, it is bundled with Equipment Group 312A (listed as a $9,500 option, despite the fact that you can't separate it from the Extended-Range Battery). While confusing to consumers (@balthazar) at best and intentionally misleading (@balthazar) at worst, opting for the combined equipment and battery package does net Lightning XLT buyers quite a bit of extra features, such as 20-inch wheels, Ford's latest Co-Pilot 360 Advanced Driver Assist System, power tailgate with tailgate step and work surface, heated front seats and steering wheel, and the 9.6-kW Pro Power generator, among other things." https://www.motortrend.com/news/2022-ford-f-150-lightning-extended-range-battery-configurator/1 point

I'm glad you're okay. No one is surprised you weren't hospitalized and we're glad it didn't happen. You didn't seem to have any co-morbidities. But even what you went through might have been avoided entirely.1 point

Much to nobody's surprise, I finally caught the covid last week. Tuesday-Thursday I had on and off body aches also with an on and off mild fever. Waking up in the morning was definitely the worst and as I took medicine and vitamins throughout the day I felt better each day but woke up feeling pretty crappy. For the most part I didn't have a cough but i wouldn't say it was completely nonexistent. No loss of taste or smell. Thursday night and all Friday was the worst as my body felt much better but for whatever reason my throat was killing me. It was extremely sore and talking or drinking hurt. I wouldn't say I'm 100% today but I'm a good 90% with a tiny cough and my throat is still a little sore. Much to EVERYBODY'S surprise though, I wasn't hospitalized nor did I die.1 point

Good thing that never happened with ICE trucks. Just a $10K bump for a diesel engine, thats all. Just skip the fact that the longer range battery also comes with 137 extra horsepower and more standard equipment. Seriously, maybe stop using the SMK method and actually compare apples to apples. BTW, $9K of the $19K for an equipment group bump up. If you go with the standard range model, it is a $9K option so you are really only paying $10K for more range and more power, same as if one went from gas to diesel in your average Super Duty truck.1 point

So I made up this chart that I think demonstrates how little difference there is between the 2.0T engines in this class. Peak horsepower on most of these is over 5,000 RPM and the Acura is at 6,500 RPM. I want you to think about how often in your daily life that you exceed 5,000 rpm while you look at these charts. What you'll end up noticing is that in the RPM of typical daily driving, 1500 - 4000, there is virtually no difference with the largest spread being 17 horsepower... nothing noticeable at all. Furthermore, these figures are only calculated at wide-open-throttle. At partial throttle, the numbers will be significantly lower. The Mercedes and Acura have very deep first gears, but they are only ever used when sport mode is engaged. It gives them significant pulling power in that mode, but that is a transmission advantage, not an engine one. The front-wheel drive Cadillac 9-speed looks like it might feel spritelier than the RWD 10-speed in a vehicle of similar weight as second gear is a bit deeper on the 9 than the 10. The 9-speed also has a very very slightly larger ratio spread. In overall spread, the Acura wins and in theory should be the most efficient at a steady highway speed if the transmission is able to hold 10th gear, but that's a noticeable "if" as none of these tend to hold their top gear in anything but a steady cruise. The BMW ZF 8-Speed has a pretty deep 1st and 2nd, but then starts dropping the ratios faster than any other transmission. Long story short, if you like the car, minor differences in peak horsepower that only really occur at high RPM under full throttle really shouldn't be the deciding factor. They are marketing materials and not in any way meaningful to you on your morning commute. The question marks are where I didn't have enough data to make a calculation. South Carolina is the same way, BUT there isn't a traditional sales tax applied to vehicle sales, just a $500 max "infrastructure" fee. Short term you pay less, but it doesn't take very many years to surpass what sales tax would have cost. Yeah, it's definitely down to suspension set-up and tuning. Interestingly, ride quality is one difference I've noticed between the Model 3 and Model Y. The MY rides worse despite feeling slightly softer sprung. The M3 is more composed and comfortable; it even feels a bit more solid. The ride/handling is pretty similar to my old ATS. It's not overly surprising to me that demand for these is so high. I'm surprised it took this long. The Challenger is probably the most well-rounded of the three and has stuck with tried-and-true, well, everything. These days, it would be the one I'd buy despite the Camaro being a better fit for little ol' me. I almost bought one instead the Tesla, twice; both times a Challenger was in the running. Give me a nice wide-body Scat Pack in purple. They've been trending in the wrong direction ever since they switched to Alpha. It seems no one really wanted a smaller Camaro, especially after the refresh. Covid shortages likely put the final nail in the coffin. It's blasphemy, but I don't hate it. Upon my return, I sort of wondered what happened to him. I don't think I want, nor care, to know.1 point

I have no interest in self-driving cars, or cars that talk to each other. Working in software for 25 years, I know just how buggy and easily hacked most software is...don't trust it to drive a 9000lb vehicle down the road...1 point

Kinda how I am planning the conversion of my 1994 GMC Suburban to Electric with no vehicle-to-vehicle communication or a government black box to track me!1 point

I've never been in an Uber/Lyft. I've taken a taxi twice (that I can recall). I've been in a 'town car' twice. Have no interest in expanding that list. Have no interest in autonomous 'pool' cars / not owning the vehicle myself. If it comes to the point I cannot meet my needs in the new motor vehicle world, I'll go back to vintage; get a clean '60s car rebuilt/restomodded to my specs. Should be on par with the ever-rising ATPs people spend on new stuff. Then I can bask in the 'invisibility cloak' that car offers me; no vehicle-to-vehicle communications, no black boxes, no OEM tracking. THAT'S when I start my crime spree. ?1 point

Because, for the last time, I am talking about engine upgrades within a particular truck. Has zero to do with the model itself. I am showing you that within one model truck, there is a huge jump from gas power to diesel power, similar to how there is a jump with the Lightning. This jump is not unique to EVs and that is my one and only point here. Singling out EVs here ignores that very fact.0 points

But in order to adhere to the ‘apples to apples’ case study, the trucks have to be in the same weight class and at least close in trim level. Otherwise, why not use an F-550 in comparison… or a Peterbilt?0 points

I’m on that bridge multiple times a week and walk with whatever dog I’m watching in the park under it frequently. It definitely weirded me out. Not you, the bridge collapse.0 points
