Because of course you are "surprised". Fun fact: There are many good vehicles that exist outside of Germany.3 points

The height above the ground matters, not fakery visuals like that blackout panel. The overall height of the vehicle doesn't look that tall either.2 points

This is all new. Previous Edge/Nautilus was on a conglomeration of Mazda6/Fusion parts on a platform called CD4 and earier than that CD3. Explorer platform was D3 and goes back to the old Volvo P1 platform that was under the S80. D3 and CD3 are inter-related variants and share a lot of parts.2 points

At a guess, they wouldn't have been able to shrink the platform for Nautilus enough to make it distinct from the Aviator.2 points

I hate the XT6 so damn much. For the great engineering GM put into the CT-cars, they couldn't have done a more badge-job than the XT6. It's the closest thing to putting lipstick on a pig in the automotive world as it gets. I know I'm a Lindoln/Ford fan and Lincoln did the same trash 10 or so years ago. But, they've vastly changed and all Lincolns have at least an engine option the comparable Ford doesn't get.2 points

The RWD based Aviator competes directly with the above mentioned and undercoat both in price already, yet its sales are average at best. That does not make a good case to switch yet another CUV to RWD just because, especially with EVs coming in to take their place. Just not a good business case of Lincoln right now. The next RWD CUV/SUV from them with be an EV, more than likely.2 points
-
RWD based AWD optional...give it a proper layout. I hate to keep bringing them up, but look at what mazda did with the CX90 and soon to be CX70...they could've just mailed it in and done another CX9 and CX5, But they wanted that long hood/short overhang. Now being said, midsized CUVs are the bread and butter segment. The xt5 and this are also rans, the RX and MDX are the top dogs here...cede that segment, up your price and undercut the X5, GLE with a RWD based product. Sure the sales numbers won't be there but your ATP and profit margins would be higher. And as a side effect, you improve your brands prestige.2 points

It's on a greatly enlarged Escape/BroncoSport/Maverick platform rather than the cut-down version of the old Explorer platform. But given its size, there is no direct Ford counterpart. It has a 114.2" wheelbase compared to the Escapes' 107.5", overall length is 193" v. 180.5", and wheel track is 65" v 62". It's actually larger than the old Nautilus which was 112.2" wb and 190" in length, 64" wheel track. It's about 200 lbs lighter at 4,349 lbs v. 4,545 lbs when comparing AWD to AWD models. The old FWD with 2.0T was as low as 4,165. It's much easier to add strength without adding a lot of weight to an already light platform than it is to take weight out of a larger heavy platform. The hybrid with all that low end torque should move along briskly2 points

I cut my teeth on GMInsideNews for a little, but grew bored w/ the constant griping about the inevitable EV future. Been a car nut since I got my first Hot Wheel as a child and as an adult have owned cars across multiple brands...meaning, I'm not a brand fanatic but if you put a gun to my head and made me choose...I'd pick McLaren as my favorite make. Looking forward to some healthy discussion. Cheers2 points

Except for the last two years where they dropped AWD and a lot of the upper trim level options, it actually sold fairly decently by Lincoln standards.2 points

not too fast, bro. Body cladding WAS an 80s thing... And it wasnt just a Pontiac thing either. It was a universal across many a brand across many a niche. Although the pics Im gonna post now are not of off roading SUVs, its about off roading and racing. From 1984 The actual rallye car And the road car. I see plenty of body cladding on the road car. In 1984 I HAVE to remind you... REAL off roader SUV... There was slight body cladding on that... Because there was an option to NOT have body cladding below the doors. And AMC... early 1980s... There are prominent fender flares there and slight body cladding on the bottom PUNCTUATED with blackness... When clearly there were models that minimimzed the effects of it... And the predecessor from the mid 1970s when it wasnt an offroader and just a station wagon... So...its NOT a Pontic thing. Its an 80s thing. And it was everywhere Because we all know that body cladding = speed... So before you accuse Pontiac of shytty body cladding, take a close look in the mirror...1 point

The Cadillac XT5 and XT6 need upgrades to make them more Cadillac. NO excuses, GM. As for the Nautilus, too bad it is being built in China rather than the USA. I know Buick was saved by Chinese sales. How many Lincolns are sold in China vs. North America?1 point
-
Body cladding = SUV. This standard was set by the 90s Pontiac Montana.1 point

Buick does need new product pronto. It is nice that Buick nearly doubled sames in 2022. But the industry keeps moving every year. The Enclave NEEDS Mazda's CX-90 interior STAT (or at least very close to that), and so does the Envision. As for the Envista crossover coupe, I will pass. I do NOT like crossover coupes, regardless of make. What's the point of having a crossover if you are reducing storage space in the back?1 point

Literally from the link you posted. "Toyota 4.0L V6 comes with benefits – longevity and reliability." Pointing out the issues (that clearly affect very few of those when you realize how many of those were made over those years) does not change the above in bold and doesn't make anyone a "lemming" any more so than your posts on EVs make you a "lemming". BTW, the sheer number of 4.0L equipped Toyotas for sale with over 200K miles on them, backs up my assertion about their overall reliability and longevity and again, nothing "lemming" about it because I am happy to supply endless ads on that one to prove it lol. Besides, I can literally find sites with issues on ANY motor or car. It's not that hard on even the most reliable vehicle out there because we have little thing called the internet that enables millions to bitch about their problem motors when they are going bad but rarely compliment their motors when things are going well. See what I am saying? Shall I post the endless issues, over the last 25 years, on the 5.3L from GM? Will that make it any less unreliable in your eyes?1 point

How is it an suv? How is that anything more than a hatchback with big wheels? There are 2-door Imprezas that are more SUV than that...1 point

@David A what @trinacriabob said is pretty much spot on. The red symbolizes the blood of Christ shed on the cross. The shell (with the red 'blood') symbolizes death. The cracking of the egg symbolizes rebirth and resurrection of Christ. The boiled egg inside symbolizes life waiting to break out. Ressurection... Its a game... Tradition... Everybody chooses their egg. Then the game begins. Egg tapping to break the eggshell by tapping with another person. Pointed top with poitned top. Rounded bottom with rounded bottom. Each takes a turn. The first person taps first. Then the scond person taps. Everybody takes a turn tapping with one another. If one side is unbroken then that person gets to tap with another and when everybody has tapped at least one turn and if one person has an unbroken egg, then that person is the winner. Winner of what? It is said that this person will have good fortune through-out the year.1 point

But they don't want to because Apple won't play the same game as Google (for good or bad). GM wants to learn about their consumers while they are driving (not a fan of said policy, for the record) and target them with corresponding subscription based services and Google is the perfect host for that tactic since they don't give a rat's posterior about customer privacy and specialize in target advertising. For all of this to happen, it has to squeeze Apple out of the box, so to speak. This subscription nonsense is getting out of hand and GM lost a potential EV buyer with this new setup with Google. This has less to do with my Apple preference and more to do with my distaste of everything Google, where privacy is concerned. Hell, even Lucid added Apple CarPlay recently. The omission for the sake of poaching more dough customers (who have already paid tens of thousands for their GM EV) is just dumb and greedy as hell IMO. And in what kind of Swedish/Chinese common core math world nonsense is a 4 slotted between a 2 and a 3?1 point

It is very interesting to me that Polestar is using the same Snapdragon automotive system that runs Android and it can still support Apple Carplay. This tells me that GM could do this too.1 point

The RX may be a blah, but the Lexus build quality and reliability leads to low ownership cost and high resale value. A used car buyer won't touch a GM 3.6 V6 with 150,000 miles on it, when people won't think twice about a 200,000 mile Lexus. My aunt is on her 2nd ES350, the first she put about 220k miles on then passed on to my cousin who has been driving it the past 2 years, that car might be nearing 250k miles at this point. And that's dealing with Minnesota winter abuse too. And good on Mazda for doing rear drive and a straight 6, but that probably could have been used 5 years ago. Seems like hybrids and turbo 4 or EV has been the trend, and they are setting up 10 years of a thirsty 6 cylinder that makes turbo 4 power.1 point

Not the point. You wanted a RWD competitor for the two Germans mentioned and I simply stated that Lincoln already has that. Volume, or lack thereof, does not change that fact. And not sure what bringing up the Camry and sales have to do with anything I mentioned either since I never brought up sales being the be all, end all. Sales are simply sales and have zero bearing on the quality of a car. Dime a dozen Corollas prove this. Just saying.1 point
-
Just understand that whatever it is that you think about the RX and MDX...the XT5 is much worse. Re: choosing the Buick over the Lexus...I get it, when I bought my Mazda 6 I went to a Lexus dealer to buy a new ES350 F Sport in that dark grey color w/ the Red leather seats. Buuut problem was that they also had a used Mazda 6 Signature w/ 12k on the odo on their lot for almost half the price...27 vs 51k. Didn't end up going used, but I ended up buying a new 6 Grand Touring reserve...1 trim down. Now was the Lexus a better quality car....yes it was undoubtedly, but was it 24k better? Nope, not even close1 point

I thought that was just the engine itself. I must have missed the vehicles itself "added lightness" This is what I was only thinking of. Ahhh that's understandable. I'm sure it's fine, it just looks a little funky. It's a comfy, lazy CUV. While it would be nice, it's completely unnecessary for Lincoln to do this. It definitely sounds more expensive to reconfigure the Aviator/Explorer platform than update what it was already on. Lincoln doesn't sell enough to dump too much money into it. I highly doubt if they went RWD their sales would just double to pay for the engineering.1 point
-
If I hand you some actual apples, will you compare them to other apples or do you just whip out the oranges like you are doing here?1 point
-
Apparently, it has "added lightness", so with that in mind, it probably plays with the mid-pack Lexus RX (and looks better too). They made the steering wheel like that to give the best view of that coast-to-coast dash. They wanted to prevent blocking the view.1 point

Yeah, as a 2022.... and it's currently *checks watch* 2023. The 2024 Envista and Encore GX come out next month.1 point
-
The old Encore got canned a month or two ago. Any new ones you see are just leftover. I've been pretty disappointed in the latest Buick offerings. Only the Enclave and Envision feel like what they should be. Friend of mine just got a brand new Envision Avenir and it's really nice.1 point

Welcome SDot! We like both gassers and EVs here and think there is plenty of room for both.1 point

On another forum I advocated for Buick to build a LWB C1 based Coupe Ute based on the Enclave...think this but almost full sized. You're getting warmer GM/Buick1 point

Interior is nice, I am sure this will attract those that wanted a car but will settle for the coupe style SUV. The face on it is just a head shaker for me as I find nothing attractive about it.1 point

So Tesla is just going to magically reduce manufacturing cost by 50% for this mythical $25K EV? Those "details" are sketchy at best so I will believe it when I see and then there would be no way I would buy it. Tesla has quality and build issues in the $50-150K range. Think that gets better just by waiving the "it'll be a quality $25K EV" wand at it Elon? Best of luck with that. Just skip the inflation factor between now and 2026 too.1 point

I looked it up. Those red "things" are eggs ... Easter eggs. That's funny. Their being painted red symbolizes that blood was shed while the egg itself symbolizes rebirth. Two people, most likely Greek adherents, will exchange a traditional Easter greeting by each cracking an egg with each other. I'm sure that there's a lot more theological depth involved beyond this basic explanation.1 point

I am Sure @Drew Dowdell as would I be happy to sell your kidneys for the car as I still think it is sexy both the AI version and the real versions you have posted. You are right as we know the Chinese will pirate anything to make a buck on minimal effort. Geely Global Geely Holding Group: about the company, history, technology, design (geely-motors.com) It is interesting that they hired a UK White guy for design and copied the over all shape of the cadillac shield. @Drew Dowdell I would give up a kidney too for this sexy EV Sedan full size. This would be game over for Tesla as this has way more sex appeal and desire than a Tesla S ever will have. Especially against Mercedes, this is way freakin better than the EQS, EQE, EQC, the whole feaking EQ family and kills the ugly ass BMW EV family with the oversized kidney grill. GM needs to build this now. Please post the link as I would love to play with the tool.1 point

They’re always the most expensive around me. Costco or Speedway or Sheetz for me Someone put a OG CTS and the Celestiq into AI and said merge these and see what car comes out. I would sell all of your kidneys to get this CT6 EV refresh. Some of you may die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.1 point

For those of you who like to do your own oil changes, Costco has packages of 10 quarts of Kirkland synthetic for $31. Their oil gets good reviews.1 point

Lexus Build Quality? This is what I call the Lemming affect. They used to have quality, but lately even my aunt who is on her 4th Lexus and has had two of them with dropped ceiling over the back seats seems to be blind to all the issues she has had to take her current RX in for. I just do not get this devotion to Lexus as it is not what it used to be when they had the awesome commercial on how smooth their V8 was with a wine glass on it. I would say that Lexus is not here anymore IMHO. In regards to your comment on V6, I would take that over any 4 banger from Lexus or Toyota any day for reliability.
