Keeping this non-political, but still educational on the topic of alternative types of voting. The basic idea is that no one can get elected without 50% + 1 of the vote. We would no longer have elected officials who win with 43% of the vote. People who don't get their first choice have their votes moved to their second choice candidate. That way, people can now safely vote for third-parties without fear of having their vote thrown away and helping elect someone they dislike. For example, people who voted for Jill Stein may have selected Hillary Clinton as their second choice back in 2016 and that would have produced a very different 10 years for all of us. You don't have to vote for every candidate on the ballot. If there's only 3 candidate you like out of 5, you can vote for just your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pick, leaving the others off. In the NYC Mayors race, there was an active campaign by supporters of the progressive side to encourage people to not even rank one of the competition. It worked. Most people picked the two progressive candidates, and their combined vote was well over 50% (56% from memory), making Zorhan Mamdani the winner of the primary. The two candidates actively campaigned together and said, "Hey, pick both of us and rank which one of us you'd like first". The runner up is highly likely to end up serving under a Mayor Mamdani after the general election making the voters for both candidates happy.2 points

GOP is in for a major reconning imho. Enough people are educated enough to understand that others should not be dictating how another lives especially when you do not pay for their life style, etc. We are coming up on one of the biggest money exchanges ever as the Boomers die off. Yes those that inherit billions are never really going to change their ways, but the bulk of society is not happy with what is going on and I think outside of meddling by Musk and others for the attempted control by Billionaires, U.S. society will stop this. Sadly it will be too late for leadership of this country as that ship sailed and has been sunk by imbeciles. I fear there is going to be major reconning for various industries. Steel, Aluminum, etc. are not going to come back in the droves that current lemmings think they will. Manufacturing of various kinds will also not come back, just to much to setup up and have covered that are already in places with much cheaper labor. BIGGEST area is the American Auto Industry where I believe it will truly be reduced to a fraction of what it is today and just be more of a foot note in history in a couple decades. Very sad due to poor leadership at many levels that cannot seem to see the future. Was waiting to hear if @Drew Dowdell was going to post a story on this or not, but here is the press release of the Cadillac Velocity Concept that channels the essence of the Cadillac V-Series of autos. True that..I ignore much of modern American culture and people...I really have no interest in what the generican masses are into, F them...a nation full of lobotomized imbeciles. All my stuff is here, my dogs, my house, my cars, my sister, a few friends. Not interested in moving again--I've moved 5 times in the last 30 years, 4 states. That's enough..2 points

Honesty is never easy to hear especially if you believe the opposite of what is said and proven, but the best policy is still honesty and right now we are clearly lacking in that across the US. Thank you for posting Amazing what idiots we have here in the U.S. I apologize on behalf of these lemmings that clearly need to get educated before opening their mouth.1 point

OMG, I get the term "ranked voting" now. After reading this, it's almost silly that i didn't know what it was until now, hahaha.1 point

Or stamp out sheet metal from the older cars and just mount on a modern EV chassis.1 point

Bummer about empty stores, but as the news covered today, we have freight companies closing down, restaurant's closing down, so many things being affected due to poor leadership that America is going to be hurting big time by Xmas. In regards to that AWESOME Lincoln Continental Mark II above, yes I will probably have the usual everything must be EV comments, but Yes, that car would be lovely as an EV. the Style / Flow of the body lines just supports air slipping over and around the car. Take that body, modernize it with LED lighting, electric powertrain and have a HUGE Frunk / Trunk with ton's of room and a great road trip car to enjoy the drives in. Honestly, some of America's best styles are from the past that can be used to give Modern to future EVs with Style!!!1 point

On the automotive side, this is absolutely gorgeous. Not sure why it isn't showing the car... More economic bad news. Lots of stores empty that are normally full here in central Ohio, restaurants also. We will see where all this goes...1 point

Agreed! FAFO, reduce safety standards....Norfolk Southern found this out in East Palestine Ohio. Derailment cost them half a billion dollars, deferred maintenance seems like money well (not!) spent. More proof that Americans are clueless and tone deaf, or at least a bunch of the ones in charge, and the ones voting for the ones in charge.1 point

Will be interesting to see how things play out. A compact 2 or 4 door EV pickup is perfect for inner city owners and especially for suburban folks that want to run to Lowe's or Home Depot to get stuff for the house and not have all the maintenance of an ICE mid or full size pickup. Hyundai has their Santa Cruze EV pickup coming towards the end of this year unless they delay it. It seems the EV Pickup based on the Kia EV9 might also get delayed and Genesis with their Escalade competitor GV90 EV SUV in normal and extended length might also get delayed due to stupidity in DC. As such, I think we are headed into some hard times ahead due to inflation caused by Tariffs as well as the massive lay off's due to over hiring in the tech sector. Will be very interesting to see how this plays out, sadly American Auto industry is not going to be what it has been nor is the Japanese auto industry as both are way behind where China and Korea are at with their 800V EV portfolio. Based on sales this year, American, Japanese and European auto companies are seeing massive decline in auto sales in China where Chinese and Korean auto sales are booming. Incompetent leadership stuck in the 50's and 60's led by IQ73 is going to hurt America big time! Course while there is plenty of stories about Donald Trump being tested in his high school years at the military acadamy with an IQ of 73, nothing to validate if the stories are true or not other than to point out his own extreme nature of proving that he thinks he is the smartest person ever as president. End result is no matter how smart or dumb he may actually be, he is destroying America and the auto industry along with hurting the tech sector. A global economy will not be stopped and at this point, there is no going back to Empire building years.1 point

Yeah they are making an EV Hyundai Santa Cruze. The Santra Cruze starts at $29,500 and they are on pace to sell about 29,000 of them this year. And that with a gas powertrain that buyers tend to prefer over EV. This isn't a big volume segment and I imagine Ford is just going to cut into Maverick sales. What Ford should have done is said we are building a Rav4/Model Y competitor and it will be under $30k. Those are the 2 best selling vehicles in the world, they should have gone right after them and taken their sales. It won't be that bad. It won't bomb so hard, but also 60 years later people remember the Edsel. 25 years from now no one will remember the Ranchero, much like no one really remembers the Subaru Baja outside of a small cult following.1 point

Many other news stories say this is a true compact EV pickup truck that is to be named Ranchero. Everything we know about the 2027 Ford Ranchero EV Ford’s Next EV Pickup Might Bring Back the Ranchero — And It’s Not Just Nostalgia RANCHERO Trademark of Ford Motor Company. Application Number: 019228685 :: Trademark Elite Trademarks https://fordauthority.com/2025/08/ford-ev-pickup-could-be-called-ranchero/ Seems that the Ranchero Trademark is to cover a Ranchero Pickup, Ranchero SUV and Ranchero Car. Very interesting indeed! Also good info, but these folks say it will be a 400V system only which is bummer.1 point

Right now, states and even cities can institute Ranked Choice voting, but it might only be for certain elections. Zohran won the primary for NYC mayor partially because of RCV. But that's only NYC. State level elections are the traditional sort, you pick between two parties or you throw away your vote on a 3rd party. In the general election in NYC in the fall, voters are going to get to choose between 4 candidates, the current Mayor Adams (running as an independent this time), former governor Cuomo (was running for the democratic nomination, lost to Zohran, now running as an independent), Zorhan Mamdami who won the RCV democratic primary, and a no-name republican nutjob who will lose. My position is that all elections, whether for president or dog-catcher, need to be ranked choice and every race should have a box for "none of the above". If I interpreted your question wrong and you don't understand how RCV works, Balletopedia has an explainer and video on ranked choice voting.1 point

We could do it with one simple change to the constitution, all other changes would flow from that. We need an amendment for ranked choice voting required in every election, even dog-catcher. Also the elimination of the primary elections. This will do several things. 1. It will stop extremist from both sides getting elected unless a true majority of the voters want it. The primary system is the primary cause of the extremism we've been seeing. Only the lunatics can make it through their party's primaries and the sane, sober "boring" people don't get soundbites or traction. 2. It opens up the door for 3rd parties to make a real go of it. Ranked choice, even in just the general election, would likely have changed the outcome of 2016 and 2024. Once the sane people are back in charge, we could look at things like breaking up monopolies/oligarchies and retiring the Electoral College.1 point

The Z06 starts in the 6 figure range. It starts at $112k. Add the "performance package" for another 9k (which should be standard on a Z06, right?) and it's a 120k car before changing paint, wheels or interior colors.1 point
