Will Car Companies Meet the CAFE Requirements?
G. David Felt replied to Z-06's topic in General Motors
This will be an interesting thing to watch as we will kill any ability to grow our country and build things as Trucks, SUV's etc will not fall into this stupid over kill of Mileage. Get ready for an expensive cost increase in everything due to the crazy technology that will have to be figured out at Customer expense to meet these mileage goals. -
Hey GM4Life, My 1994 GMC Suburban has a Viper system that was installed by Circuit City, with Remote start, Auto crack of the windows, meaning I can put them down only an inch, half way or all the way down from the remote and many more options. Here it is 2009 and after 15 years, it still works great and I love it. Yes some can have their brain fried if a swap of the battery is not done properly in the car but over all Viper alarm / remote start systems are the best out there. I have put them on everyone of my auto's.

I shouldn't even be considering this...
G. David Felt replied to Camino LS6's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
Hey Camino, I am very excited for you, while I can understand others concerns and so called bad vibes. I have loved these trucks and even on my 94 Suburban ran into the hing issue you talked about on the rear door. For me, the gasket was installed wrong by GM on the assembly line and it focused water onto the hings and they started to rust. Here in Seattle where 9 months of the year is drizzel or rain, an issue like that starts rust fast, I was able to GM right at the end of the warranty to replace the seals and complete door. In this case, I would say you could probably pick up a replacement door, get it painted to match and put in new seals and have it solid and done right instead of trying to replace just the hings and weld it and then paint etc. Personally, I love what I see on the truck and would strip it down to the frame, sand blast it, have the frame galvanized and then build it back up clean. You could pick up the Ramjet 350 to go in that baby along with a clean new wiring harness to eliminate any electrical issues. Best thing yet is that the new harnesses have all the updated connections so if you decide to add newer features you have the connections to do this. In regards to the drive line clunk, I would say have a transmission shop give you a free review. At least here in Kirkland WA, there is an awesome tranny place where the owner will take the auto out and test drive it and then put it on the rack and check it out and give you an estimate of what is wrong etc. If you want to pay the $99, they will drop the tranny and check it out a bit more and give you an even further detailed estimate. I have had a clunk in my driveline and they found it to be at the connection of the driveline to tranny, pressed out the universal joint and replaced the neck as it had somehow become broken and once that was fixed it was smooth as if it was brand new. But I feel it will still be a minor issue for you once you get a good look at the driveline. Could be just a slip yoke issue, or spline stub end missing a few teeth. It could be rebuilt to be really clean, OEM new looking and have a fun kick in the ass engine. Looking forward to additional pics as you get started on the project. I would not worry about the internal stuff like the missing AWOL rear speaker covers, if you want OEM, those are easy to get still and really you could pick up some nice aftermarket covers that look even better. Rock on with the new baby! -
Auto Alliance favors new federal fuel economy proposals

Would it not make sense and could drop the amount of CO2 faster if there were conversion kits for existing auto's? Create a electric or hybrid kit that can handle the elements, maintain towing and off road capabilities and allow people to take their existing auto to the shop and have a conversion done for only a quarter of what a new auto would cost. I bet many would rather do that and hold onto their stylish rides than buy one of the many new boring auto's this country seems to be getting ready to sell. H'mmm I think I need to look into what it would take to convert my lovely Suburban to Electric or hybrid. That could be a fun project. In regards to this thread, in the short run no amount of Volts, Prius, hybrids or electric auto's will make any major change, might as well enjoy the G8's of the world. On top of this, one BIG issue that is missing from every f@#king review of Hybrids and Electric auto's and is missing from past and current administrations when they talk about going green on auto's is the massive amount of CO2 AKA Green House Gas created when you build these massive battery packs for the auto's. So we trade in 10 years of Green house gas created by a current econo car for producing 10 years worth in a day for building the battery pack and then the little bit that is produced by the engine running to recharge the battery pack. Seems to me to be more of a smoke screen on the gas issue. Where is the report that clearly states how much gas is produced at the battery production companies? -
Poll: Which American city is right for you?
G. David Felt replied to trinacriabob's topic in The Lounge
Very True, I grew up in Kirkland when it was still a small town and still work in downtown kirkland up till the company closed. Over all I like the kirkland / Bothell / Woodinville area and all the wineries. Course nothing like a good concert at St. Michell winery during the summer. Some day I might move back into that area, but for now I am happy here in Mountlake Terrace. -
Interesting, sadly I cannot see this company surviving long term. The global market will not support it in that manner, as a nich player in select markets it could survive longer, but not really sure it has the resources to do that as cost will go up and I do not see them having the ability to turn into a nich high end luxury player.

Trinacriabob, sorry that my fellow PNW dweebs did not warm up to you, that is surprising considering that I was born and raised here and have always warmed to everyone. Only beef I have with out of state people is the lack of using the damn turn signal. Otherwise welcome to 9 months of cloud cover and drizzle / rain and 3 months of amazing sun and no humidity. Course thinking on this now, if you live south of seattle and all the way to Tacoma, you are dealing with a bunch of smug rednecks. North of Seattle you deal with a bunch of laid back open rednecks and the east side is your smug intellectuals that think they are better than the city folks. Might be why I moved from the east side to Mountlake Terrace since I am a outgoing laidback Software Engineer. little bit of blue collar and white collar! -
Camaro May Be a Sore Eye to GM's Prospective New Owners
G. David Felt replied to Z-06's topic in Chevrolet
The GOV needs to wake the f@#k up and get over the green $h!. I am so tired of everything has to be green. I do my best to recycle everything and put very little garbage in the ground. I have gone way above the building code on my house so that it cost me very little to heat or cool. But when it comes to my auto, Keep your hands off. Support the Auto industry so they can move to and make efficient hybrids, diesels and electric auto's and allow the technology to mature so that eventually even performance, truck and suv's can be moved to the technology. Just stop trying to say all has to be green now. It will not work. Right now the Camero is creating jobs and profits and that is a good thing! -
Very interesting take on this night time career. Personally I like my nights to sleep and enjoy the early morning hours.

While I usually see no use for guns and do not own one, I could support taking these morons out and shooting them. -

Personally this is just one of a few items I feel the feds need to stomp on states about. I find the following is a list of my pet peeves that I wish the feds would stomp into 1 single standard and all states have to follow. It is crazy to have states applying multiple taxes for the same purpose such as a state that has a gas tax, toll road fees and auto license fees to pay for the roads but then they put all the money into a general fund and spend it on other things and complain about not having the money to pay for what the tax was originally supposed to be for. Standard list: single taxation, a state has to decide if it wants a Income tax or sales tax, but not both. Roads have one support fee from either gas tax, auto license fee, toll system or sales tax but not multiple Schools have a dedicated fund, either the state supplies the money via the single taxation or the schools are funded by Levies. if the state has approved lotteries like Washington which is supposed to support the school system then it must go directly into the school fund, not into the general fund as the Idiots in Olympia does now. Cell Phone fee's / taxation. No more various taxations and city use fee's. Currently depending on where you live each city has it's own use fee. Mountlake terrace add's a $9 per cell phone fee to your monthly bill cause you live in their city and use their air space. This compared to lynnwoods use fee of $3. It is a crazy rip off of the hardworking people. No more add on taxation for sports stadiums etc. Add this as a cost fee onto the tickets for those that wish to support those teams / companies. Ticket price + end user stadium fee = true ticket cost. Time for the hard working people of this country to stand up and demand clear accountability by the government and states. No more wasted budget money on programs that have no accountability other than a free be to those specific groups that supported a political party. Perfect example is the $187 million the Bitch of a Govenor of Washington state is spending during a budget shortfall to the Quack Association that supported her into office for hireing 4 dozen quacks to counsel the street people to get off the street. These people should be helped by the churches, not the politicians especially when there is no accountability or standards to measure if they are doing any good. Just 3 years wasted money IMO. I am sure many of you also have your own bitch about things you would like to see standardized. Sounds off on what you would like to see! -

Seattle and Colorado springs, course when I played with the answeres I also got Austin which is a cool place but still to far south and hot for me. So I am right where I am supposed to be. -
Based on some of the comments, I say Ocn needs to give a spanking or two to some people! :AH-HA_wink:

Performance Parts Showcase engines. Gotta love their web site. If money was no objection, so much could be done with some fun RAMJet 502's and a few select sleeper vehicles.

This sounds like having Buick have product that would compete with Chevy again. I thought everyone here did not want that. Keep it as a mid luxury level dealership and have them compete with asian and european auto makers and stop competeing with itself. I do not see that as a smart move for Buick.

I have not seen much quality but plenty of over priced service on BMW's lately. Of the 3 coworkers I know that have BMW's, 2 of them dumped them over the weekend. Once bought a new CTS and the other actually dumped it for a lexus. Interesting that they both say BMW has become over priced and poor quality compared to other vendors out there. Maybe it is time BMW takes a hard look at them selves.
