True and great info, my concern is the rapid growth of consumer debt. Latest data is showing that over the last 3 1/2 years we have seen a spike in consumer debt and I do not think it is reducing but growing. This is going to be an ugly correction again. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/one-sure-fire-prediction-for-2018-americans-will-take-on-even-more-debt-2017-12-18 Great Chart of National Debt to GDF and Major Events. https://www.thebalance.com/national-debt-by-year-compared-to-gdp-and-major-events-3306287 This tends to go along with those of us that believe a correction is coming.

Subaru News: Import Tariffs Will Cause A 'Big Impact' At Subaru

Sounds like a good time to push into a skateboard platform where you can easily change out the cab of the auto for what you need. -
Subaru News: Import Tariffs Will Cause A 'Big Impact' At Subaru

OUCH, the Tariffs are going to really impact and keep some into older auto's longer. It is going to be very interesting to see the auto landscape at the end of the year here. -
http://www.thedrive.com/news/22659/the-electric-jaguar-i-pace-is-germanys-newest-taxi Seems Munich is wanting to clean up the air and as such, one of the largest taxi services just took delivery of 10 new iPace EVs to use and see how they do against the dominate taxi there, the Mercedes-benz E-Class taxi. Munich has acknowledged they have a noise, emission pollution problem that contributes to their acid rain problem and is hoping that new EV taxis can replace their massive diesel taxi fleet dominated by Mercedes-benz E-Class and BMW 5 series sedans.

You are so right, just checked the local Seattle Mercedes-benz dealership, they had 20 2017 model cars, CUV and vans on their lot with discounts from 10K to 15K off. I think this is a global issue with things slowing down along with crazy MSRP pricing that is now forcing OEMs to have to do steep discounts. We are Due to have a realignment of pricing on everything as things have gotten way to crazy priced.

Yet for those that want a deal and do not care about the latest tech in an auto, these are great deals to be had.

For me, usually I see 3rd party places charging me the same cost that Napa or O'Reilly's would charge me as they already get a discount from those parts places buying it at wholesale. Yes some places charge a delivery fee, but for the most part, it should not be more than a few dollars off from you buying the part. If it is more than 1/3rd more than what you pay, they are what is called Keystoning their cost to double it and take a crazy profit.

I see locally that our Buick GMC dealership only had 6 2017's left and 1 2016 left new in stock. WOW, Very surprised by this. https://www.buickgmcofkirkland.com/seattle-new-specials-cars/sortClick/1/50/Year/VehicleType_~Make_Buick~Model_~Trim_

Amazing how similar all those 1940's cars are. ? Reminds me of what we have now with all the same plain generic appliances we have out there.

This weekend is Seattles Fleet Week tied together with Seafair weekend and the hydro plane races and blue angels. Not only is there the Vintage boats exhibit, but plenty of old autos. I have seen the following just today this Sunday: 1976 GMC RV in mint condition, on the freeway this morning. Wish they still made these. Very cool. 1967 Chevrolet corvair convertible, on the freeway this morning. 1966 Lincoln continental in white, lovely auto, gonna go back and try to grab a pic. 2005 Chevrolet Uplander, shocking how nice and clean this was driving through bothell.

Wife is interested in the i-Pace and we have a reservation at the Jag dealership to test drive one when they come in. Never know, while I respect that you do not like the style, the interior space is of a mid size SUV. It very well could be my first non-American auto if the wife likes it. Like @Drew Dowdell has stated, we have spouses that we also have to take into consideration. Happy wife, Happy life. She lets me have my expensive wine collection and home theater plus all the auto's I have bought have always been my choice. She is wanting something very green but nothing yet that interests her. I have committed to her that the next auto is her's to make. That plus I did loose a bet to her and owe her a auto of her choice. So the next one will be EV of her choice. I do know that if Cadillac made an Electric Escalade, we would own one today.

Green, Sure, I do not drive a green auto, but then there is nothing that my spouse wants to drive yet or that fits me. On Green, I recycle everything, biweekly my recycle is two 128 gallon recycle cans. I only have 16 gallon garbage as everything else is composted and yard waste to the larger compost place here in Washington state. I grow a garden and am very sustainable with year round basic veggies such as carrots, variety of lettuce, beets, etc. in my green house. My house is level 2 green certified as when I bought this 1952 built split level, I gutted it, replaced windows, doors, and taking it down to the studs allowed me to update the electrical, run conduit for my network and insulate all walls including interior walls and flooring between the two levels so that I use minimal power and natural gas. Then rather than using basic standard 1/2" sheet rock, I used 1" sheet rock adding to the R value. My wife and I both believe if we do not take care of the planet for ourselves and our future generations, there will be no planet to live on. At the rate we are going, the future could end up being the following movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319262/

Totally WRONG, People are driven out of the auto purchase ability due to their own instant gratification and enlargement of personal debt living a life style that their income does not support. America is at an all time high of personal debt that is drowning the country and for this reason not CAFE that Americans are not able to to buy auto's like they used to. Blame the Germans who started this whole cheap ass leasing thing and live like your rich on top of the whole auto industry that will allow someone to go upside down on an auto purchase to get into a new auto rather than wait till they pay it off or have saved to buy a new one. PERSONAL DEBT with INSTANT GRATIFICATION of spoiled Americans is the reason we are where we are today.

GM News: Tripower Making A Comeback At GM
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Not having ever been in a Buick Electra or any real knowledge of why it was called an Electra, I honestly see nothing wrong with using that name on a Buick Sedan that has an Electric power train. Might as well get some more miles out of using the proper name on a proper Buick EV. I have to honestly say I think this is a really messed up wiki page as they say Buick had an Electra model from 1959 to 1990. Yet what they show as Electra station wagons, sedans, coupes etc. I never heard them called that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_Electra electra park avenue electra estate wagon ?- 31 replies

Model S and X Refresh, Minimalism Update the Answer to Growth?
G. David Felt posted a topic in Tesla
According to electrek web site they were given information it would seem anonymously that is a real change from the gradually constant introduction of updates and new features Tesla is known for in pushing out updates quarterly. It seems for the Q3 2019 Tesla is planning to introduce a new minimalist interior into the S and X models inline with the Tesla 3. A full refresh of the exterior and interior will happen in 2021 as an assumed 2022 model. While the S and X are Tesla's flagship models and will remain so, the company is going to harmonize these interiors to look much like the Tesla 3's interior but with premium materiel's, features and expanded custom colors. Many thought that after 6 years of the same body style and interior that this staleness would get a radical change but with an interior update next year, a refresh in 2021 of the exterior / interior would be only 6 years for the Model X and 11 years for the model S if you do not include this interior refresh or 5 years from this up coming refresh. This is also about the time that Tesla has stated they will roll out their Model Y CUV, Tesla Semi and the Gen 2.0 Roadster. A busy 2021 for them. Now Electrek web site also just published using the information from above pictures of supposedly the new minimalist interior concepts. I honestly get that Tesla wants to go full automation in driving and take away the right for a person to enjoy driving and just use it as an appliance. This minimalist approach makes one really question if this will increase sales or drive potential customers to other OEMs? With that stated, you can sound off on what you think of these minimalist concept interiors and if they are an improvement or detriment to driving? -
Sales: Sales Figure Ticker: July 2018
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Sales Figure Ticker
As @Drew Dowdell and I have stated, we are headed for a recession and correction in the market. I also believe there is more to this than just product shortages and changing of models as you fall back on always when sales do not top everyone else or stay in Positive growth mode. There are many reasons for MB to break up the company into stand alone divisions. As the old idiom goes, every dog has their day and I think we are in for a changing of the Top dog in the Auto Industry. Who that will be I am not sure, but I would not bet out American or Asian auto companies from replacing German as some of the best if not the best in the world again.- 13 replies

So true, they say that the average company can hire 4-5 engineers for every executive they rid themselves of. Strengthening a company that becomes more innovative and creating jobs and new products. I love that Dell Technology has continued to reduce the bloated overhead of EMC Executives as they continue to streamline products, grow engineering and bring new and better products to market.

EU and China are both heading towards stricter standards than the US. As such like Drew pointed out, we will fall farther behind and give up our leadership position by reducing emissions standards from auto's to commercial business emissions. We are already loosing the Green race to China and the EU, how much more is America willing to accept in falling behind the world by trying to recapture the golden age of Empire building that is the past, not the future.
