He should be driving an Air cooled VW Beetle or a Model T ford actually, if that is his criteria.  Also, why does he not register for an account if he wants to enter into serious automotive discussion with us?

It's not like we stand naked in the back yard, bite the head off of a bat, and bark at the moon...

Or snort a line of ants!

He is just a DREAMER, this AsianPersuasion dude is!!!

Maybe he is making a joke, but it aint funny that is why I will sigh and YOU will laugh and HE will cry...

I had to assist my son's baseball game tonight.

Im assisting my daughter's softball game tomorrow night.

Im gonna be the Skipper at my son's baseball game Wednesday as the coach wont be there. Instaed of dreaming up Ferrari Dream Garages, Ill be dreaming up ideal batting orders and player positions the next little while.

My mistake- thought I had read "Model 3". Even as I typed it, I was thinking 'there's NO WAY to bring this to market like this in that price range'.
Agreed- the Model S needs a 2nd generation like right now. I know it's sales are steady, but you can't sit still. If the eMotion comes out as is, the S is going to be way behind. Frankly, I think everything else in this price tier will be also- today, those specs have the capability to rule the lux sedan segment.

When I read your post about it being Model 3 territory, I told myself I dont care if my 2012 TL hasnt been amortized fully, THIS is MY next ride!

I was a tad disappointed to read that this was  going to be a 100 000 dollar plus  vehicle. LOL

This Fisker dude, he designs some nice rides! BMW Z8, to the Karma to the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage...

And then I told myself, screw Musk, Fisker is my hero!

So, yeah,  if this is all that Fisker says it will be, Tesla better be careful...

The Model S is not scheduled for a new platform or at the very least, a significant overhaul. When the original Model S owners get fed up of looking at their dated ride, they will upgrade to this one.

Other potential owners will just buy this ride as it looks awesome...and its NEW!!!

The Model S sales figures will be dead BEFORE BMW and Mercedes and Porsche and Audi and others will have launched their EVs  by 2021...

The Model 3 will be the sole product that they will be sellling in this time frame?

It looks frumpy and since this new Fisker will probably be the next 100 000 dollar car phenom, Tesla might not have that prestige branding therefore the Model 3 wont be that sought after since big brother Model S wont be as lustful...therefore Model 3 sales might also take a hit in the year 2021...

    Competition...its a bitch sometimes...

  4. I HATE THE GALLARDO.

Something about it makes me say NO!!!!

I never did like the 360 Modena and even less the F430.

I feel the F430 is too boyracer lookin' and not sexy enough for a Ferrari.  Sure the Testarossa was also boyracer, but it was a product of the 80s after all. And it was sleaker and sexier than the F430 will ever be.  At least that is how I see things.

    With that being said.

Id be somewhat of a big douche bag wearing these

    Related image

     and driving my F430

Id make the boyracer style work for me!!!

Image result for ferrari f430 yellow and black

  5. As per the article, it is the Model S rival, not the Model 3.

Either way though, it is a much much much nicer design than either the Model S or the Model 3.

If this goes on sale, the Model S will take a nose dive to oblivion!

Musk better be ready to offer at the very least a very very very significant refresh to his Model S if not a new model...

@oldshurst442 I drive now G37S sedan which is fun enough and fast enough but in about 3 years I put 100k on it, so I am over 130k miles right now and problems might start creeping up soon.  I do autocross occasionally but I don't want to do track days in my daily driver.

So after I am done with Infiniti I am going to take my dad's Mazda 6 which is economical, while still fun to drive and then buy something fun for the weekend, autocross and hopefully track.

    There you go!!!

You a real deal car guy!!!

My definition of a real deal car guy is:

    1. A guy that works on his cars or restores them and the like

    2. A guy that tracks or races his cars

    3. Does both of the above.

Yeah....YOUR angle makes a lot of sense.

Like @A Horse With No Name suggested, a used Miata or even a new one is EΧΑCTLY tailored for your needs. Or a C5/C6 Corvette if V8 power is what you crave. Or a used Porsche Caymen if something in between is better for your style or a Toyobaru...

And I see that my angle is also relevant because as you stated, a Mazda 6 IS a fun daily driver!!!

  7. This is why I LOVED 1995-1999 Buick Riviera!

    buick-riviera-1999-6.jpg

    1995_buick_riviera_coupe_base_f_oem_1_50

No picture captures the boat tail silhouette that this generation Riviera had because the WHOLE car was a boat tail silhouette. It was stunning to me. It still is actually!

  8. All this to say though that the 1971-1972 Buick Riviera did it better! Well...I think its better!!!

Many highfalutin snobs might not think so. The price tag and the badge throws them off...its what they want to see more than anything else I suppose!

  10. It is NOT this car's mission to be a high horsepower car although some want it that way.

OK...granted, the name of the game is to roll these off the shelf as much as possible so Toyota and Subaru might as well just give the damned  consumer what it wants!!! It is not as if this a super low production niche car. It is a niche car but it wasnt meant to be low production...

The so-called problem with this car aint even the horsepower rating...its a decent amount @ 205 horsepower. It really is the torque figures: 156 lb-ft @ 6400 rpm.  Even my ecoboosted 1.6 liter Fusion that is meant more for "fuel economy" has a higher torque rating at a lower RPM!!!

Id say even the Hyundai Genesis' coupe Turbo 4 cylinder rating of 275 HP and 275 Torques is what people want...

A 250HP/250 torque rating for the Toyobaru might seem a tad low since the Mustang Ecoboost is 310HP/320 Torque and the Camaro is 275HP/295 Torque. But 275/275 seems like a nice compromise since also the criteria for this car is not supposed to be a tire shredding pony car either!

Needless to say, I like this car a lot!

But in this realm of sports cars, Id take in order

    Tied for 1st place

    1. a)  For style and sexiness in that EΧACT colour scheme....maybe with a Cadillac ATS 2.0T swap!!!

    2017-Fiat-124-Spider-Elaborazione-Abarth

    1. b)  Yes in YELLOW!

    Or convertible

I can relate, I owned a ton of fun cars...55 Chevy 2 door, 57 Chevy 2 door Hard top, 70 Chevelle, 71 Chevelle, 66 mustang Fastback, two Miatas, a Mini Cooper S...by driving cheap daily drivers.

Mazda 3 and Cruze are both available cheap and get great mileage.  I hated selling the TDI Jetta back because I drive as much as you do and it was getting 50 MPG plus when I sold it back to VW.

That is why I love the muscle car genre.

Family car benefits to haul families and their crap.

Affordable price if we stick to the original brand offerings in Chevy, Pontiac, Dodge and Plymouth.

And if I was to splurge a tad because of financial success, then an Olds 442 or Buick GS or even a modern Chrysler 300 SRT8 or 2017 Chevy SS does the job for me...no need for high roller cars for me...although today's world, the CTS V  or AMG style car seems to be the only way to have my  cake and eat it too with the V8 thing!

Daily driving needs and fun all-the-time persona (my personal style off fun) with me driving the car 24/7/365 without the need for a "week-end" car is with a muscle car.

The best I could have done in 2012 when I bought my car was the 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD.

The SH-AWD part is NOT because of winter in Quebec but because of the 300 or so NATURALLY ASPIRATED  V6 horses under the hood!

The FWD part is because of the Quebec winters, and the only way I got the  300 or so naturally aspirated horses was with the SH-AWD trim and configuration.

Totally agree that the marketing fluff sucks big time and other than smaller engines, nothing really revolutionary. As you stated, so many NO NO and NO about this car! This is reverse evolutionary tactics.

Well, to be honest, Honda just replicated what GM and Ford gone done with the Malibu and Fusion with the 1.5 liter 4 cylinder turbos and the dropping of the V6...although Ford gone offerin' a V6 again...

But yeah, marketing fluff is right, but following market trends is what Honda is doing.

Maybe the V6 take rate started waning?

Maybe Honda Motor Company wants to distance the Honda Accord with the Acura TLX even further by eliminating the V6 offering in the Accord so the TLΧ could reign supreme in Honda Motor Company's midsized car offerings?

@A Horse With No Name everybody has it is own needs and wants.  I drive almost 100 miles each day and put around 30k miles a year.  After, driving my current car for the last few years I came to a conclusion that next time around I need something cheap and economical as daily driver and then I will get a weekend/fun car to keep and not to destroy in 3-4 years.

An observation from a different point of view is what Im about to do...

And Im not telling you what you should do or even suggesting what you should do...just discussing and having a....discussion...from a different angle...

What kind of "something cheap and economical as daily driver" are you thinking about?

Because if its something really cheap and mundane, like something of this nature

    nissan_micra.JPG

Driving daily as much as you do which is 100 miles each day and around 30k miles a year...wouldnt it be in your daily driving pleasure's interest if your daily driver WAS a more or less a fun week-end warrior type car (AFFORDABLE) in the first place?

A VW Golf R  type car comes to mind...

    210d1f5a79198c7e91264473f04bf300.jpg

    Or a GTi....

It dont have to be the Audi S3....that is just stupid....

Or even a Subaru WRΧ type car..not even the STi...just the WRΧ

    517196380c8a92cee92a44739892efbba21586ef

Οr if you are into higher displacement vehicles with more girth to them, there is a Challenger or Charger R/T...

What Im saying is that, if you are doing all that mileage, you might as well have your week-end fun during your WORK WEEK BYPASSING a second vehicle.

Unless of course you are the real deal car enthusiast and you track and race your cars.

  14.  If it werent for the electric motor and rechargeable battery revolution up ahead...I would wonder how long before we would reach a peak with downsized 4 cylinder turbos replacing V6s before engine displacements would ultimately get bigger again with V6s making a comeback in mid-sized sedans like how this trend was in the 1980s and how things changed in the 1990s?

As we all know...horsepower and torque DOES sell cars!!!

(There was a hippie movement in the 1970s well into the 1980s to kill horsepower and speed...and yet in 2017...THESE ARE REALLY the GOOD 'OLE TIMES for HORSEPOWER, SPEED and PERFORMANCE!!!)

The last time took a decade give or take...

Like I said, EVs are part of this equation now, but instantaneous torque is what these motors are known for, and V8s have gobs of that...so...if the electric car wont be the dominant force like Silicon Valley suggest...I STILL wonder how long this trend of downsizing will continue?

Yes, I Know...EPA numbers have to be in check...

Torque in EVs still rule and V8s rule....and TTV6s also have gobs of torque...

My question still stands....how long before we see a reversal of higher displacement engine offerings again?

If you want a six-cylinder engine in your midsize sedan, the selection of models has been steadily declining. At the moment, you can only get a six from Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Come the 2018 model year, there will be one less automaker.

    You forgot Ford...

(Check out the license plate!)

I feel sad though, as I love a 6 cylinder power plant.  I must agree with Casa though. Turbo 4s are quite good in replacing 6 cylinder cars in MOST applications.  Not all applications though.

Just like TTV6s cant replace all V8s either!

Ill listen to all of these tomorrow.

Daughter's softball game yesterday, son's baseball game tonight. Im assistant coach for both. Im exhausted.

Im just lurking around in here reading and catching up on the news. Cadillac sales up 32% worldwide, new BMW SUV with a V12 maybe, Tesla Model 3 options are limited, etc...

My brain is wired on perfect batting stances and getting under the ball to catch pop flys and what inning is this to how many outs are there...

My opinions on cars for the moment is non-existent.

I read that as "New" preorders placed today, not the 400k placed last year will be the ones not shipping until after 2018.

He did not say the Model 3 is delayed.

    From the link:

    Quote

If you haven't already pre-ordered the Tesla Model 3, don't expect to own the car anytime this year -- or next.

"This will be a long wait," Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said at the company's annual shareholder conference on Tuesday. "I'm guessing if you put a deposit down now, it's probably end of next year before you get it."

Musk's estimate suggests an even greater backlog than expected. On Tesla's website, the delivery estimate for new Model 3 reservations is "mid 2018 or later."

Tesla opened up pre-orders for the Model 3, its first mass market car, more than a year ago. Within a matter of days, more than 300,000 customers put down $1,000 deposits to reserve their place in line.

Related: Tesla losses grow as it nears Model 3 launch

Tesla hasn't updated the pre-order count since last year, but Musk said Tuesday that "there are more and more deposits every week."

"So if you want, then definitely put down the deposit," he added. "The line isn't getting shorter."

Optimism for Model 3 sales has helped drive up Tesla's stock price in recent months, pushing the company's market cap above traditional automakers like General Motors (GM) and Ford (F).

But the cost of prepping for the launch has also pushed Tesla deeper into the red. It had to raise more than $1 billion earlier this year. Tesla said last month it was "significantly expanding" its infrastructure with more retail, delivery and service locations ahead of the launch.

They could be....but not if they continue selling Cimarrons to the masses!

Sorry SMK....there are some things we agree on with Cadillac on why they fail often and there are things that we agree on why  Mercedes Benz succeeds....

But Im baffled as to why you think selling literally shoddy CLAs and B Classes to the masses IN NORTH AMERICA is a good viable strategy where North Americans were actually sheltered from seeing Mercedes-Benz be a  mainstream automaker in Europe!

This MAINSTREAM insanity in North America to gain volume is gonna hurt  M-B's image in the long run.

Its OK of you dont wanna see it...but THAT is 1 reason on how  Cadillac screwed the pooch. A Cadillac for all approach did not work out so well for Cadillac.

The ZL-1 just had so much power that I couldn't use on unfamiliar back mountain roads where the BRZ I could push to its acceleration limit toss into a corner and not worry.

Chrysler really needs to invest in the suspension of the Hellcats

Ill have to super agree with your comment on the Miata/Fiata and FR-S/86/BRZ .

Mazda has been doing this since 1989 or 1990 with the Miata and that is EXACTLY what Toyota and Subaru told us what those cars were gonna be all about.
