And there U go.. if U are gonna bitch about the screen.. Bitch about he gloves too.. and do what Olds is saying.. and upgrade your mitts. Question../ why are we wearing gloves in cars with modern heating systems that can be remote started up to 10 minutes before U even get into the car?

    Valid question!

I have NEVER worn gloves while driving.

3 feet of snow on my car after a blizzard and 3 feet on the ground:

I wear gloves and boots and hat armed with a shovel and broom and dig myself to freedom. Once inside the car...gloves and hat come off.

-40 Fahrenheit plus the windchill factor and I wear gloves and boots(optional, depending if there is snow on the ground) and hat to get inside the car...Once inside the car...only the gloves come off. I keep the hat...Im bald, I need to keep the hat.....my hairless head needs to keep warm somehow. (When I had hair....no hat was worn, ever, in this situation)

I start the car WITHOUT the gloves...pray she starts in the first place and as soon as she goes vroom, I turn the heat and fan on to max and the dials go to window defrost...I leave to get back into the house...I wait 15 minutes for her to get nice and toasty...I get into the car WITHOUT gloves and hat and I drive off!

BTW: this is where your Chevy SS comes in!

Its a perfect mix of muscle car madness, pony car nimbleness as a 4 door sedan....(former Camaro platform  after all) and luxury....yes luxury!

Through pictures as you know, Canada does not get these, seems like the Chevy SS is very well built, fit and finish being outstanding and the leather appointments look like they could belong in an Oldsmobile or Buick as opposed to Chevrolet!

And THAT is what makes the SS such a fantastic car!

It's not doing their reputation any favors. An equal number of people will rejoice as will roll their eyes.

Im in the camp that rejoices, but I agree that this will NOT help their rep one iota!

And I would say that there will be FAR MORE people rolling their eyes than rejoicing...so yeah! You are SPOT ON!!!!

If this is true, though....in order of preference for me:

    1. Challenger Hellcat

    2. 300 Hellcat and/or Demon

    3. Challenger Demon (a 300 Demon fits above the Challenger Demon because Id option it less for a dragster and more for a freakin fast sedan for daily driven family usage and the 300 luxury stuff with the 4 doors helps a lot better than the 2 and the sportiness of the pony car persona with the sedan persona of the 300...)

    4. Charger Hellcat

  4. @dfelt

I dont have a use for touch screens in my cars...

Radio....it stays on 1 channel....AM sports talk radio.

USB key for music...knobs and buttons to fiddle around with volume and to switch to the next song is good enough for  me....

Speedometer....would you believe me that I dont use it?

I know approx. what speed Im rolling at through sheer experience...

Plus...again....through experience, I can feel what the car is doing when I actually drive it and toss it around a corner and stuff....pilots call that flying by the seat of your pants!

So....an analog  tach and speedometer (they could be digital on a screen or HUB) and a USB friendly radio with actual knobs is where its at for me.

OK...all that could be on a modern infotainment system and I WONT complain...alls Im saying is I PREFER old school gauges because I get a pleasure from actual driving....(its ironic that I HATE manual transmissions) but I get visual pleasure of observing the landscape and EΧΤΕRNAL surroundings rather than infotainment centers!

As far as flying by the seat of  my pants goes....they ONLY stimulant I DONT like IS shifting my own gears! The rest of of it I LOVE....I LOVE FEELING WHAT THE  CAR IS DOING AT ALL TIMES!!! And THAT does NOT require LCD screens OR gauges of ANY KIND (to a degree of course....) ESPECIALLY WHEN IM NOT SHIFTING MY OWN GEARS...but then again....a GOOD MANUAL DRIVER DOES NOT NEED THE TACH TO KNOW WHEN TO SHIFT HIS OWN MACHINE!!!  HE SHOULD KNOW WHEN BY THE SOUND AND FEEL OF HIS MOTOR!!!

  5. About the glove argument....

I was shopping for new gloves this past winter and I noticed that there are big, thick warm gloves good for -40 (Farhenheit or Celsius...same temperature actually) that are touch screen friendly....technology advances in gloves too!

So...wearing gloves should not be a problem in 2017 for these touch screens...

Let it be known though that I dont like screens of any kind in my cars!

    I think its gimmicky!

But, since phones and computers and home improvement electronics are this way anywhere from thermostats to alarm system keypads to lighting, to all in one giant touch screen central basepad that uses the smartphone to connect your house and yourself anywhere on the planet to even control your audio equipment and your connected freakin' esspresso machine ....the auto industry just as well follow suit.

    HOME AUTOMATION IS INSANE!!!

Like I said, cars just as well join in on the fun!

  6. Grunge aint really my thing....but yeah, very sad day for music indeed.

He did have a powerful voice.

Its even sadder when we just learned that yet another human took his own life...

Many of us it seems suffer mental illness.

A Saturn Vue was scheduled to have a hybrid! Then this car where it being a Cadillac  could absorb the  cost and sticker price better...(that is what the dude said, and what he did not say but I am saying....a car that could at least make some competition to Tesla and not be blown away by it!)

At least offer hybrid tech on it now!!!! Even if only in China for Pete's sake!!!!

OK, I now will say officially the XTS needs to die. This is a far better last ride machine!

Imagine this as the new Ghost Busters Ride! :D

You always find a way to humour me!!!!   Cheers to you

PS: Yup...if the remake of Ghostbusters was a complete reversal of roles, then HELL YEAH that 'Slade should have been their ride!

An overly expensive and blinged out brand new Escalade representing the last of the petty cash would have been funny!

(AND NO!  I HAVENT SEEN THE REBOOT!)  (AND HELL TO THE NO WILL I EVER SEE IT!!!)

@oldshurst442 I get you do not like it, but the baby boomers love it and as long as we have millions buying them here and the Chinese who love their versions as personal limos it makes good sense to tweak and continue to build it.

In fact I can see the XTS being moved to the classic form and still being built especially for the Limo, Livery and private auto chauffeur business at the airports past 2020.

I agree with many that it is a relic of the past GM, but does make money, has a clear market that wants it and no reason to kill it.

Why kill a money maker just because. Kinda like the stupid decision to kill the Avalanche / Escalade Ext.

    I fully understand this....

I agree to a point for its existence.

You are preaching to the choir about these kinds of Cadillacs. I LOVE these kinds of Cadillacs myself (except this one)

    However

    1. I understand that there are some of us that like the looks of it....like your parents and @Sal Collaziano (welcome back is in order although I did not know you then) but there are many that think its a whale....

That is not good going forward....especially when its usually the older folk that loves these things....yes yes...younger folk like them too, but most of the younger crowd buy the XΤ5 αnd the Slade which better aligns with Cadillac's vision of the Arts and Science crowd rather than the mid 1970s and 1980s crowd that bought these types of Cadillacs.....

    2.

Not a very good image to have if you ask me....

    Hey....when Cadillac sold these

    3302e41de211b40d286fdc2bcb153156.jpg

Cadillac also sold these when these (and Cadillac) where on top of the world

    1959-cadillac-eldorado-biarritz.jpg

    Remember....

That Cadillac was starting to become a laughing stock when this came out....

A livery service vehicle is not a bad thing....but ONLY when you are on top of the world

    33DDBCD900000578-3574969-image-a-16_1462

Cadillac has not had a DESIRABLE halo car like the M-B on the bottom in 4 decades!

    brabus-850-6-0-biturbo-coupe_100501837_h

    1. So....not only is a ΧΤS is ugly to me and it looks better in hearse mode (NOT a good thing) and Cadillac DESPERATELY NEEDS A PRETTY CAR

    2. keeping it around for just the money is not a viable reason for me....

    It sells!

    GREAT!

So does a XT5 and any other SUV Cadillac is willing to sell....

Cadillac, if it WANTS THAT MONEY...maybe they should have invested in MORE CUVs and SUVs that align BETTER with their IMAGE THEY want to sell to make that money!!!

I thought they wanted to do away from that crowd that wants the XTS...well, they sure got me on board to NOT want these types of vehicles....am I being duped by Cadillac marketing folk?

Oldshurst442, maybe Cadillac does not really CARE about the XTS as they do other models.  It is the only holdover from pre-bankruptcy GM left in the stable.  Maybe it is a placeholder for the (supposed to be awesome) CT8 flagship that has not yet been released.

It was supposed to be a placeholder for when the CT6 arrived....

Regardless, it was ugly then when it first showed us its ugliness, and its uglier now.

GM and Cadillac DO care as the XTS is printing money for them. Here and especially China. And I get that!

I just wished Cadillac would start to cease on relying on this type of vehicle to make them money.

I just wished Cadillac would cut FINALLY cut ties with their late 1970s-80s vision of selling Cadillac image...

This is just a better version of this car

    1993_cadillac_deville_sedan_base_fq_oem_

    and then this car

    94con.jpg

selling to the same clientele that Cadillac vowed to leave behind even as far back when they introduced this car

    cadillac-catera-04.jpg

And to tell you the truth...both Devilles I posted look 1 000 times better then the ΧTS....

Yeah yeah....the XTS is miles ahead in chassis refinement and performance.

    The XTS is:

    1. UGLY with a capital F as in F***king ugly

    2. outdated in by at least 25 years in what actual vision Cadillac wanted to be in when they went RWD with the Catera and later the CTS and we could add another 5 years to that as the FWD STS

    wk9404.1-lg.jpg

did a BETTER job is keeping with that "modern" image they have been pushing for!

I must admit though, many people from the foreign crowd who get themselves into a XTS LOVE their experience with one!

Which perplexes the phoque out of me as the ΧΤS in essence is what drove them AWAY from GM/Cadillac and American cars in general in the first phoquing place!

I STILL DONT LIKE THE XTS, though....ITS FUGLY!

  11. I really like this car.

    2017-Genesis-G80-front.jpg

There are many of these around in my neck of the woods.

I havent noticed if they are Hyundai badged or Genesis badged because my level of enthusiasm for them does not go further than "nice car", but I too, feel Genesis is heading in the right direction both in looks, features, fit and finish and marketing.

  13. This news excites me just as much as the Lambo Urus news...

And in case you have no clue what that may be....a cute GIF that explains my position on the matter

    c0c.gif

I always wanted to like the ΧTS, but I was lying to myself.

The first year the ΧΤS came out, I was head over heels over it....call that blind love for GM...

But I hated myself....I felt dirty....

Then I realized I was not honest about this whole XTS thing. I finally saw the XTS for what it really was...one ugly whale!

There is no excuse for that when Epsilon and Super Epsilon platform mates Lacrosse and Impala look damned good...

This refresh might make it look more like the current front fascia of the recent Caddys, the poor XTS is uglier than ever.

Just my not so over the top yet >ahem< humble opinion.

  14. My reaction upon hearing the news about yet another SUV offering...

My reaction when somebody might try to explain to me that SUVs are the future and Im just a dinosaur in denial clinging on to sedans or coupes and there is 650 horses offered by Lamborghini in the Urus...

My reaction when I FINALLY come to the realization that there is literally nothing I could do to stop this insanity with the SUV craze no matter how many cute GIFs I post on the internets!

The Corvette should be a $50-100k car

    And who says that?

    YOU?

Corvettes of the past had models that surpassed that limit some want to put on it!

Corvette was NOT about price point...it became that way in the mid 70s all the way to the 2000s with the mid 70s C3 and C4 and C5 and it started to break free from those shackles with the C6 and with the C7 going forward, the Vette is going back to its 1955 mission of DOMINATING the STREET AND RACING CIRCUIT no matter what price point...at your friendly CHEVROLET dealership....

The Corvette at this time was NOT an affordable car...

It wasnt an exotic like the Gullwing, but it wasnt priced a tad more than a Chevy Impala like it is now either at its lowest!  And at its highest, it sure was HIGHER in price than Cadillac's offerings!!! In which today at 100 000 is on par with Cadillac!

  16. 6 hours ago, smk4565 said:

So my point is the performance level that is possible is way, way above even a Corvette Z07, way above a 911 turbo (which is why they have the 918) and I think a road car can go way above that which Mercedes will prove this fall.

    What Balthy says....PLUS

    LaFerrrari has 900+ horsepower

Corvette Z06 has 650....and its at the limits of performance due to FR layout...

WHAT I KEEP SAYING AND YOU JUST SAID IT:

    6 hours ago, smk4565 said:

way above a 911 turbo (which is why they have the 918)

The Corvette does battle with the 918 too!

    How?

    INDIRECTLY

    Corvette-C7R-Le-Mans-2014.jpg

which begets this (the one on the left)

    2016-chevrolet-corvette-z06-c7r-edition-

and when Chevy realizes that even that is not enough to impress the likes of you with a price tag of ONLY 100 000, Chevy engineers this:

    2017-04-18_15-47-03-960x430.jpg

    landscape-1492711552-zr1-exhaust.jpg

And that 10 second lap will probably be less....by leaps and bounds.....with LESS HP than either the 918 or the LaFerrari.....but the price tag wont increase by leaps and bounds....and the C7 ZR1 will still be hampered by the FR layout....

But yeah....INDIRECTLY...the LaFerrari and the 918 ARE the Vette's  competitors...JACK-OF-ALL-TRADE approach...

In reality SMK, we really are saying the same thing! Think about it...

You choose to put every other brand on a high pedestal by trying to downplay what the Vette does by throwing ALL models of said brands in the Vette's path and saying: "You see! A Vette cant  compete with ABC brand's 1 000 000 dollar car"

And of course you mentioned Mercedes!

What I do is I agree with YOUR philosophy, but I dont downplay what the Vette can do...

I say the Vette is a JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES car and a master of none but I PRAISE what it does at a price point that is LESS than even its DIRECT competitors!

The thing is...minus the hybrid tech and the lack of a MR layout but the C7-C6-C5 really is a Front MID engine layout, the Corvette Z07 package employs the same amount of engineering tech to EXPLOIT THE MAXIMUM IT CAN OUT OF ITS DRIVETRAIN AND POWERTRAIN....

And when the MR C8 comes out...with all the racing tech learned with the C7R and the MR Vette Daytona racer

    Corvette-Daytona-Prototype-1.jpg

will probably be on par with that 1 500 000 LaFerrari in track times at 10% of LaFerraris price tag!

And YOU want this tech to go to Cadillac?

I said that Corvette needs to be its own brand to diversify so Vette could have a roadster EV to do battle (and win) with the Tesla EV

To have a FR TTV6 layout to do battle (and win) with Porsche's Boxster and Cayman

To have a base model roadster to do battle (and win) with Mazda's Miata...technically, THAT WAS the Corvette's ORIGINAL 1953 mission anyway!

To remain like it is now (Stingray, Z06, ZR1) to do battle (and win) with Porsche's many specialized 911 variants.

To have a MR layout and go all out to do battle (and win) with the likes of LaFerraris, 918s, P1s, Ford GTs, hell, even put a TTV6 in it to do battle (and win) the NSΧ...

Το ΜΑΥΒΕ even offer a Trailblazer tuned by Corvette racing to do battle (and win) Cayennes and BMW M badged crossovers!

Because as it stands now....the Vette does battle with all cars mentioned directly and indirectly and its Jack-of-all-trades stance, it aint focused enough to win any battles....

So yeah, SMK, we ARE saying the same thing....its just that you prefer to downplay the Corvette!

  17. I mentioned Corvette and at least 2 posters are in denial where Corvette fits in the sports car world...and just THAT proves my point that the Vette needs to diversify and to specialize (hence to become its own brand to offer MORE DIVERSE MODELS keeping FR and OFFERING mid-engine at the same time) to better compete with several sports car markets as the Stingray, Z06 and soon ZR1 aint enough....and in reality, its just a more modern muscle car approach in offering a bigger engine and MOAR power that was done in the 60s and 70s.

Jack-of-all trades but master of none!

EXCELLENT engineering but the Jack-of-all trades approach lacks the focus of the specialty sports cars the Vette does battle with directly and indirectly....

Now...back to the 911 and the cancellation of the EV/Hybrid 911

Wait, the Corvette competes with a LaFerrari and P1

    Not directly the Vette doesnt....

    5 minutes ago, smk4565 said:

If a Corvette Z07 and a LaFerrari were in a 50 lap race on just about any race track in the world, the LaFerrari would lap it several times over.

That is why I said might...

But you got to admit...the Vette for its engineering and its price point, even if it does lose(Z07 and upcoming ZR1) ...which it might not..sure as hell gives the LaFerrari and P1 a run for THEIR  money....

    But hold on now...

Its not as if the Vette aint engineered for track use to beat up on Ferraris...

    tumblr_on2v9e18RW1v5jzqco1_500.jpg

Corvette should also not be its own brand, in fact I would say that Cadillac should have sports cars, rather than try to spin Corvette into a brand with crossovers like Porsche and multiple sports cars.

Like I said...the Corvette CANT CONTINUE being Jack-of-all trades!

Its for guys like YOU that this  cant continue....

YOU just berated a 100 00 dollar  car that is engineered to take on your 1 500 000 dollar LaFerrari.

YOU just laughed it off saying that a 1 500 000 dollar will lap it several times over when that is NOT the case as the  C5R, C6R and C7R Corvettes are all 24 hour LeMans winners in their respective GT class often not far behind their LMP class competitors...

And THIS will change as the C8 will probably be a mid-engined affair to better put down that power for track use...remember...LaFerrari DOES have a 300 some odd horsepower advantage over the Z06....the C7R actually produces LESS power than the civilian model....as it stands now....the C7 being front engine rear wheel drive is at the limits of what that layout could do....

So....while LaFerrari MIGHT outlap it in a 50 lap race...that has more to do with the drive train layout rather than Ferrari's 1 500 000 dollar price tag's engineering versus Chevy's 100 000 dollar effort...

And THAT is why the CC8 will probably be a mid-engined affair...and if THAT is the case...LaFerrari will definitely NOT lap the Vette....

    Why Cadillac?

    Price tag?

    Irrelevant...

See the C7 and C7R versus the high dollar hitters and envision that same scenario with a mid-engined C8 and C8R at more or less Chevrolet price tags...

Like I said....Chevy engineers a techno tour de force to compete with the big wigs of the racing world and puts that into the civilian model Vette..

The engine, the body, the aerodynamics, the suspension benefits the C7 Stingray, Z06(Z07), ZR1 from the C7R...

    Cadillac has no racing pedigree...

    Chevrolet does...

And it all started with the Corvette....

OK...maybe a  couple of Corvette tuned Trailblazers and Tahoes to make a mark....

That being said I think GM should look into performance hybrids, I'd rather see it on Cadillac, but I'd be in favor of a hybrid Camaro or Corvette, I just doubt they could sell many of either.

    Yes they should....

I dont know about the Camaro being a sales success with hybrids but I dont see how Corvette could fail.

Corvette as of now has very strong brand recognition world wide along the same lines as Ferrari, Porsche, Jeep and Mustang...

Tesla is bringing out a new generation Tesla roadster...

THAT is NOT Cadillac territory in 2017, nor in 2018, nor in 2019, nor in 2020, nor in 2021, nor in 2022...

THAT is in CORVETTE TERRITORY NOW!!!

And it WILL ALWAYS BE CORVETTE TERRITORY....

And NOT just Corvette territory but Corvette IDENTITY to be a SPORTS CAR...

Cadillac's TRUE mission was always LUXURY....Past, present and future....

So....Cadillac does not really EVER need an exotic race car...THAT is what Corvette is for!!! And its a Chevy!

Another reason for my choices- I have V8, V10, V12, and W16 engines. I have 2 forced induction cars, and 3 N/A ones. I have one topless car. I have one car from the 70's, one from the 80's, one from the 90's one the 2000's and one from today. In my mind, they were all the high water marks of their era; the best of the best.

    Yes. Yes.

Cool connections you made there! (I did not even realize the diversity of the engines you have)

    I like!

  20. @Frisky Dingo

Yup. These choices would make quite the collection! Its keeping constant with a certain theme, quite breathtaking to look at, and expensive.

Love the Miura. Love the Carrera GT.

The Chiron is just insaaaaane at 1500 horsepower. That is WW2 radial engine fighter plane realm.

The F40 is simply the first to achieve insaaaaane speeds.

The Miura is simply the first to be mid-engined and the first to be dubbed supercar.

The McLaren is the first to be a calculated and precision beast and the Carrrera GT is THE last of this era of analog greatness.

    An AWESOME and INSANE collection!

  21. I too, always liked it. I was disappointed at first for it not having the Voodoo V8. Not so much for it having an "ecoboosted" 3.5 liter V6 or the "lack" of a V8/V10/V12...but for not having that sweet sounding Voodoo.

I have overcome that, but not entirely...

I never doubted its abilities as an exotic mid-engined supercar and Im happier that at least the automotive "journalists" in these so called "automotive enthusiast" magazines are appreciating it...

    BRAVO FORD, indeed!
