Will You Buy an Auto Without Android Auto or Apple Carplay?
This is what Motor Trend wrote today on this. It sounds atrocious and that sucks. Soooo many aspects of this truck seem perfect, but the actual infotainment seems like shet. "The one thing missing from the equipment list will be a deal-breaker for some shoppers. GM’s latest infotainment system doesn’t support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Instead, the 17.7-inch screen runs Google Maps, Google Assistant, and your favorite music streaming app natively. It all works well enough that we’d embrace the change if it didn't mean you'll eventually need to pay a second monthly payment on top of the monthly payment for the truck itself. After a three-year trial, you'll need to a subscription (currently $15 a month) to stream music on downloaded apps like Spotify and after eight years basic Google services such as navigation and voice commands will stop working unless you pony up for an OnStar plan (the exact cost is unclear right now). Apparently the only thing built in to Chevy's Google Built-In features is a method for processing credit card payments. As a workaround, you can stream music from your phone over Bluetooth like it's 2009 again—or buy a different truck." https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2024-chevrolet-silverado-ev-rst-first-drive-review-2/ Ford/Lincoln have not said this, unless there is newer news. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both on the Lightning and Mach-e.

That WAS my initial point. There's no time or money savings when stuck publicly charging. The real time and money savings are charging overnight at home. And the only time somebody is pumping gasoline for 20+ minutes is if there's something wrong with a pump. It's the same BS anti-EV people push but from an anti-ICE person, just completely made-up bullsht. How often are you waiting for a pump? I can't remember the last time I pulled into a station and had to wait for an open pump.

I've literally timed myself AND posted it here at one time. I don't know if your PNW nozzles are the size of a drinking straw, but it never takes more than 5 minutes at a pump. You have lost your mind if you think you'll convince any human that you've stood at a pump for TWENTY-TWO MINUTES just filling up an Escalade. There a 100% chance you're lying if you're saying it took you 22 minutes to fill-up an Escalade from E every time. Damn. 14 minutes. That's a good 9-10 minutes longer than it would take to fill-up most anything with a gasoline engine. @Drew Dowdell, your Avalanche probably has the same or very similar size gas tank of an Escalade, right? Do you stand there for 20 minutes or more regularly?

You just said you still had to wait a few minutes after you were done shopping. That few minutes is all it takes to go from E -> F in an internal combustion vehicle. Until you're charging at home, overnight, there is no real savings or convenience involved. Once your free trial period of public charging has expired, it costs about the same to charge publicly at those fast chargers. At home charging is really the only way to save money and time with an EV, when it comes to fuel costs.

How much money did you save because of the interior size? I'm confused by that statement. You're publicly charging right now. You're actually spending more time at a charger than you would with any ICE vehicle at a pump. Until you have a home charger, you're spending more time "filling up" than you were before. I'm sure your app or the infotainment screen(s) has charging details. Do you have the number of times it's been plugged in and how long each charge has been?

Permanent Car Spotters
I stumbled upon a small meetup this weekend. There's a new custom/restoration shop about two blocks from my home and I was walking to a Casey's to grab a cake donut for my wife (hahaha) and this is right next to the Casey's. This grey Chevelle was perfect, absolutely perfect. The plate is the name of the shop, Xtreme (restoration, bodywork, modification). I'm sure this is their show piece, and what a piece of work/art it is! I believe the van is theirs as well. Later that day we ran to Aldi and came across the International Scout. it was far from mint condition, but it was "pretty good" but even cooler to see it just out and about.

Personally, I wouldn't even care about the size when it comes to public chargers, because I'd almost never use them. My goal would be to never use them, unless it's free AND convenient. They're not a value proposition. They're like any other vehicle priced over 100k, they're a "want" and never a "need". They're a "because I can". Nobody is buying an S Class thinking they got a good value over a Camry or a G Wagen buyer thinking they got a better value than an X5 or Highlander buyer. It's more, more, more of things because the buyer can. It's basically the same as comparing an EV9 to an R1S. There isn't value in an R1S but it has a bigger battery, waaaaay more power from more motors and has fancy off road features. There's no value proposition for an R1S but it does have a bigger battery, four motors optional, a ton more power, air suspension. If you want more things, you can get more things for more money. That's how luxury brands have operated forever. A GMC Hummer EV is just that, a luxury purchase.

That's actually a horrible comparison. Any auto review by MSN is crap. "here's the spec sheet" is about all they give you.

Chevrolet Trailblazer AWD Review: One Week Test Drive - Reader Reviews
These are attractive little vehicles *for their class*. I'm slowly seeing more and more of them. Then again, I have no clue if I'm seeing the new Trax or Trailblazers...hahaha.

You're just not getting a first cut in?!? I've been cutting for a month or more already. Fun fact, the smell of fresh cut grass is actually a sign of distress from the plant. If you smell the fresh cut grass that means too much was cut off and it's stressed. Try cutting it more often to not stress it out.

I don't plan on gardening anytime soon. We need to finish other things before I'd have a permanent spot for a garden, but I would like a small garden in the future. We consume enough various peppers, onions, and zucchinis that I think it would be pretty cool to grow them myself.

Thanks! Yeah, from what I've read it needs a lot of water but also media that drains well so the roots can dry out between waterings. I've now looked into this Pittmoss stuff, and it sounds pretty dang good. I think I'll order some and mix it with planter soil, as well.

Speaking of growing trees in buckets/pots, did you over-research what type of potting soil/media to use? I think I'm going down a wormhole of too much information and overthinking. What did you end up using?

Interesting. I'm using my work computer so I can't exactly download anything to edit them, but I'll probably just try from my phone next time.

Heck yeah! Do you have any pictures of them, before and now? Not a picture of the seed (LOL) but a very young American Chestnut tree.

I'm weirdly really excited to have bought a tree. It'll be inside for a couple years, most likely. I'm going to attempt a Giant Sequoia. I saw the "promo/discount code" box upon checkout and thought I'd Google if there were any available codes. I found one and it was just supposed to be 10% off but it ended up being free, I just have to pay for shipping. I'll take that. It'll be really small, so I'll start it in a smaller pot inside and move it up as it grows. I don't exactly have a place for it yet, but I'll find somewhere in a couple years. Here's the link to the website, if anybody else is looking for a tree. Yes, they do have way more than just Sequoias. https://sequoiatrees.com/

If I rotate the picture to where it is upright on my computer and the icon in the folder, it uploads like this; If I then try and "get ahead" of the 90 degree turn and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise, it looks like this; Now that I'm looking at these, I wonder if there is a default "landscape" format on the site.
