  1. Who gives a crap about the price of that dressed up box? All it proves is that Mercedes is better at selling to ballers and rappers than Cadillac, because that's all I ever see in those acient boxes. BTW, you talk about cheap being the reason for the competitions success but you completely side step and avoid the fact that MBs success is also due to their cheap models like the CLA, GLA, and C Class. And as Drew pointed out, the average buyer (including Benz buyers) could care less about V8s and whether a CUV is FWD or RWD. Those five people that want a V8 in a tiny CUV/SUV with no real purpose other than show how quick they can run one into a concrete retainer wall can have them. Darwin Award winners.
  2. Thanks. I have it on there now but I need to find a trim bezel to cover my little cutting mistake, which was done with a reciprocating saw (really should have used a Drexel with a grinder disc but I do not have one of those at home). I also discovered I will have to replace the entire antenna due to Toyotas insistence on hardwiring theirs straight into the head unit instead of a simple plug like everyone else on the planet uses. The lessons learned.
  3. Yeah, just got done with the plastic trim and I'm going to plead the fifth on the cutting part . It is not my strongest suit and I did shank a corner. Hopefully with a little sanding and finding the right trim bezel, I can cover that mess up. Now I need to check eBay for a storage pocket to put in place of the original stereo.
  4. Phase one: installation complete Next up: Custom cut the plastic I had to take off, in order to install a double DIN, and hopefully have a nice new fit around it.
  5. I plan on it. I was looking for a single DIN with Bluetooth but we didn't have anything I like at the shop and then we pulled a nice double DIN pioneer and it had me curious. I pulled the factory CD player out (which is a detached unit from the main deck if you ever seen an old RAV4) and noticed that it had plenty of space behind it. I have to take the plastic trim off and cut it out to accommodate the radio but I have to figure out what to do with the cig lighter attached to it and relocate it somewhere else. Looking forward to seeing if I can do this without trashing it lol.
  6. Well, I get to see if I can do a little creative installation by putting in a double DIN stereo in my little RAV4 since the 21 year old factory radio finally took a dump on me.
  7. @dfelt--Very good information btw and glad to see that the gas has subsided lol.
  8. Not a problem on my end. He has now made this an issue on two unrelated threads so I offered a simple rebuttal. Someone needs therapy me thinks.
  9. As I said, MB CURRENTLY has as many as Cadillac. They also are planning on more as well. Guess you forgot that little fact. http://www.carscoops.com/2013/07/mercedes-benz-looking-to-expand-range.html So new leather and a few LED screens on a forty year old model is considered "luxurious"? Again, most people that are not wannabe ballers or pseudo rappers prefer a real luxury and MODERN SUV and the proof is in the sales numbers.
  10. Trumpflakes. That is all.
  11. Cadillac currently has only two FWD cars while Mercedes actually has as many if not more so what "logic" are you actually trying to prove here? Keep trying to move that bar to suit your purpose though. It's certainly gotten you this far lol.
  12. Yet they sell tons of them so obviously it is not pointless, but your assertion is. Also your first sentence is purely opinion, purely. This is why an honest discussion can't be had. You will slam anything from the domestics while praising Benz, even when the problems are essentially the same if not worse for Benz.
  13. But Lexus has far more models under $70K than over it. Your imaginary comparison just doesn't fly. And Buick gets compared to Lexus all the time. The LaCross has been spanking the ES in comparors for years now.
  14. That it would. What most of these fools don't realize is that a lot of parts and cars made there are bound for many other countries other than the US.
  15. Possibly but my understanding is that at least one of those plants were one of the ones facing criticism from Trump. I could be wrong though which is why I was asking for a little insight on it. Regardless, it's still an interesting development given the current political climate.
  16. Well, after all the hub but from Trump, it appears that Ford is going to do what it wants to do. Any insight on this @William Maley or @Drew Dowdell? https://www.yahoo.com/news/ford-not-scrapping-plans-build-mexico-factories-company-021839351.html
  17. Exactly my point but he insisted on creating this imaginary number so it will be used against him at every opportunity. Based on his "logic", I should just pull up pick up sales comparing the U.S. (One country mind you) against all of Europe. Let's see how that stacks up shall we lol?
  18. No you specifically said Buick and GMC. Don't backtrack on what you literally said. You will notice that I never said Buick was luxury either. You also don't get to compare the Denali to a commercial truck since it is NOT a commercial truck. It is a luxury SUV, end of story. Good grief. Where do you come up with the pointless comparisons? I also don't care if the CLA is more than the LaCrosse. Of course, it's only a $300 difference so to that I say "big whoop". Remember, Mercedes is luxury right? It should be more expensive. Luxury just doesn't include the CLA since it doesn't meet your imaginary $70K threshold. And no one, and I mean no one, has ever said that high end cars don't make money. That is just another make believe scenario by your to try and change the very narrative you set up.
  19. What a joke. A huge part of MBs R&D is going towards the lower end of the EV market (remember, they do own Smart). The rest? Who knows but MB is playing against GM in that regard, not just Cadillac, and GM throws just as much cash towards R&D as Benz so you can just drop that silly comparison right now. Oh, and regarding your Buick/GMC and the $70K threshold for luxury, I have one for you. The Yukon Denali, which starts at $66K and easily crosses your magical and imaginary mark for luxury (which btw, eliminates half of Mercedes current lineup, making them not luxury either).
  20. Exactly. He talks about the price of luxury being $70k while MBs best sellers are a FWD crossover that's no better than your average Buick and a pseudo luxury C Class and yet another FWD CLA that is damn sure not luxury when it starts at $32K. It's that bar moving that he likes to do that ends up trapping him in almost every conversation. So what it is when Benz fills their lineup with $30K bottom feeders like the CLA and $25K vans? You have plenty of excuses but no real rationale.
  21. On the next edition of "Why Bother?"....
  22. Jaguar frustrates me to no end. They make some of the most beautiful cars on the road today but that reliability (and maintenance issues in general like overpriced parts) makes me run for the hills, never to return.
  23. Umm no. The difference in what you are saying and what I'm saying is quite simple actually. The ENTIRE Fiat/Alfa line was garbage than and is garbage today. That cannot be said about GM, Ford, or Chrysler for that matter. Sorry you have a blindness to them but I am not going to sugarcoat the many issues with Fiat or Alfa and there are many.
  24. For the record I am only referring to Alfa and Fiat and regardless of what parts they are sharing, it is still being run by company with an entire line of unreliable cars with horrible resale. Sorry but the numbers and the reports don't lie (And no I am not talking about that rag known as consumer reports). And using one bad GM tranny vs. decades of Fiat garbage is not exactly an apples to apples comparison. GM had their issues but it is not even close to comparable to what Fiat and Alfa had going on. In short, it was crap then and it is crap now (again, speaking of Fiat and Alfa only here).
  25. Well of course every make has had it garbage years and yes the 60s and 70s were unkind to quite a few of them. The problem with Fiat/Alfa (leaving their domestic side out of this) is that they never stopped being garbage. They ran out of this country the first time because their cars were bigger piles of dung than the other dung of the 60s and 70s. It's not even debatable. Sorry and again I'm not picking on them "just because". I'm picking on them because I understand their history and saw those piles up close (namely Alfa Spyders and Fiat XTs) and evidently it has taken on a new form called the 500. They have garbage resale value for a reason. No offense but no one will change my mind on Fiat ever.
