Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
surreal1272 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
And you’re both wrong in that regard but hey, if you need that kind of validation, C&G is here to help LOL. And at least Balth presents more rationale and compelling arguments, even if I don’t personally agree with them. You, on the other hand...well...never mind. I just want to hear more about this “brand loyalty” you spoke of earlier. -
It was an MT article but after rereading it, you are correct and my dyslexia is kicking my butt today lol. Still seems a strange naming strategy to me but I get why they did it since the "Grand" part used to represent the higher trim models of Wagoneers past.
-
Per the same article, the “grand” part of the Wagoneer will indicate the length. That’s my understanding of it but you are right that they may start it off that way. Seems a little silly to me if you’re going to have both wheelbases though. “Grand” would make much more sense for the bigger model IMO.
-
From another article “Yes. Jeep plans to introduce a long-wheelbase Wagoneer to properly compete with its crosstown rivals' bigger siblings. And if the standard-length Wagoneer's size is anything to go by, then the long-wheelbase Jeep is sure to overshadow even the biggest of these big SUVs, the 226.9-inch-long Cadillac Escalade ESV.” And the “Series III” is their absolute top trim level.

There will be the Wagoneer vs Tahoe/Expy and Grand Wagoneer vs Suburban/Expy XL

Not really as it has already been pointed. You’re also assuming that would actually go to 3 dozen brands while there is zero chance of that actually happening. Also, diamond star motors shared platforms with AMC/Eagle, Chrysler, Dodge, Mitsubishi, and a slew of commercial rides. This is not really uncharted territory and again, it will not involve anywhere close to that many brands, as you are implying here. So they were homogenized. -
Yes but competing with both Tahoe/Expedition and Escalade/Navigator is not a good plan IMO. Jeep can go after the cheaper two but the luxury market is a whole ballgame and I cannot see anyone paying $105,995 for a Jeep anything. They may surprise me with that but I just don’t see it happening long term.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

As Olds pointed out, with examples, this homogenization has been going on for decades. What was the point of GM having a Cavalier, a Sunfire, and a Cimmaron? Additionally, this skateboard platform is no different than the platform sharing that has occurred among and between companies for decades as well. NASCAR is a poor example because is a sport and not something made for you and me so it has nothing to do with private ownership or consumer level homogenization. It merely provides entertainment and as such, they can make any rules they want. If we want to go there, then I should point out that NASCARs moves haven’t stopped drivers like Jimmy Johnson from dominating for years so it is still about the driver, which is how it should be. -

Yet it has been done for decades while certain folks folks think that EV mods are killing brand loyalty, which is a joke btw. That was part of my point to the disillusioned here. And come on @ocnblu, tell us more about that “brand loyalty” you clearly don’t follow yourself. Seems like your brand loyalty policy is right up with their with your “buy American” policies you have espoused for years here (and we all know how that has turned out). All of your down votes do not change the truth. -

Just a small example of how people modify their autos all damn time (not to mention illustrating how using an engine from one brand to put into the car of another brand isn’t a big deal) but you want to act like modifying something with an EV platform is somehow the line crossed. (It’s not, for the record). What is funny is you, once again, cherry picking one line while having no real response for the rest of the post because the truth can be a fickle little thing like that. Save your fake outrage about homogenization and brand loyalty for folks who don’t know your tired routine here. -

Let’s not forget the Plymouth Laser among those 1st gen models (had a ‘93 model as the first car that was in my name). -

Oh shut up. It is no different than when someone does a LS swap in a Mustang. And what would you know about brand loyalty when you have gone through more brands in the last ten years than just about anyone else here? Walk the walk if you’re going to talk and talk. VW Ford Jeep Chevrolet Which brand had YOUR loyalty? Maybe you need your hand held because Olds is spot on here while you continue to whine about nonsense. -
Harping on the cost is one thing but I don’t see a price anywhere in those article so maybe wait and see what it actually costs before continually harping on it. Just saying. Besides, I’ve seen countless pick ups where people put tens of thousands of dollars on stupid s*** like lifting it three feet and slapping $5000 wheels and party lights on them.

Chases very rarely happen in large metro areas like that. They mostly try to coordinate ahead of the chase these days.

There has been a "cancel culture" every decade, for the last 70 years (or more). Utterly ridiculous from front to back (with a few exceptions).
-
My own creation, using a couple of old PowerMac G5 access panels (anodized aluminum), some 12" steel legs, a couple of pieces of wood (stained black), a few sheets of adhesive matte black vinyl, and a USB led strip under the top. An end table to match my console table.

Saw this on the Greensboro, NC Craigslist. Its actually in Martinsville, VA but this is such a nice yet simple restore. I absolutely love everything about this truck. https://greensboro.craigslist.org/cto/d/martinsville-1947-chevrolet-pickup/7287110504.html So many great and unique choices there. Bravo on the selection!

Let me make it clear that despite our many philosophical differences, I do wish for a speedy recovery from that. I get it from time to time and it is absolutely no fun. I will say to look into the diet and exercise option because most meds for that condition come with a host of nasty side effects. It has helped me.
-
Guess you’re just doing what narcissists do. Don’t ever accept your role in anything that you call out on others. Enjoy your recovery.

GTFO with that. The folks that you back have been taking part in cancel culture for decades. NFL kneeling? Cancel them? Gay couples on tv? Cancel them? Gays adopting? Cancel that too. We go even farther with conservatives going after music in the 80s (PMRC anyone?) and religious groups trying to cancel things like Dungeons and Dragons. Let’s not forget the rampant censuring taking place amongst the GOP ranks, all because they are mad at other GOP members voting country over party. Just shut the entire F up with your hypocritical nonsense already. No one is buying it. Please though, tell us how YOU don’t stereotype folks here. You’ve done it to me and you’ve done it to there’s here so tell us why its different for you but not for us. You do a really nice job of stereotyping China so....

Per Rivians website about the R1-T ”For maximum length, we developed the tailgate with a gooseneck hinge system, extending the bed floor to 83.8 inches with the tailgate down. With the tailgate up, the bed length measures 54 inches, making it easier to get around and park every day.” -

That’s the problem here. He did not specify full size trucks when he said “4.5 or 5.5 ft” (and it was pretty obvious that was an estimated number to begin with because how much difference is there really between 4.5 and 5 ft) beds. That was aimed at all trucks, not just full size. Everyone knows that there isn’t a full size with a 4.5ft bed but there a bunch with 5.5ft beds. I’d like to add that after 12 years in Arizona and a state second only to Texas in terms of the percentage of vehicles that are pick ups there, I can honestly say that they are VASTLY underused because most fools there are more concerned with lifting them, chroming them out, and squatting them, to do any REAL work with them. Fact. -
