Lol! My old ‘89 MR2 required baby hands to get to a belt much less take it off but that was definitely the exception more than the rule.
-
It’s not even debatable that German autos have a worse reliability reputation (and with good reason) than Lexus. And clearly the cost of a timing belt has gone down for the Audi A8. Back in 2005, I was selling cars on a small lot and they had a 2002 Audi A8 that needed one. A third party mechanic was $1500 while Audi wanted $2400!

But a badge reengineered S Class is okay for the likes of the Maybach name though right? Again, get new material.
-
Pay attention to what I said. The original Maybach was built to compete with RR but was far cheaper, something you were clearly okay with, yet somehow the CT5 can’t compete with the E Class because it is also cheaper? Olds is right. Get new material because what you’ve said on this entire thread is old, outdated, and at times just flat out wrong. Except it’s not a $36K caddy competing with a $100K car. It’s an $85K Blackwing that does and until you’ve actually sat in said Blackwing, you are just talking out of thin air about the interior. Shall we bring up how plain Jane a base E Class interior looks? Nothing but black everywhere I see.
-
But you get to choose the al a carte thing like rear side impact airbags and USB-C ports (for those unsuspecting backseat passengers) though so it is wash lol!
-
Moving on from the wash, rinse, repeat nature of debating the same s*** with a Daimler fanatic, I just dig the fact that a six speed manual comes standard on the Blackwing!
-
A $60K Corvette competes with the $100K Porsche 911, so yes they are cross shopping. I just do not know how many more times this has to be explained to you. If a Maybach was once able to "compete" with a Rolls Royce, despite the HUGE price gulf between, then a Cadillac can sure as hell compete with an overpriced Benz. Are you kidding me? A similar in power AMG GT 4-door STARTS at $140K. It better beat everything Cadillac has. We won't even get into the oft delayed EVs from Benz. Vaporware does not count.
-
And stop with the embellishment. You have the C, E, CLS, and S. Four. Everything else is a derivative of those four and half of those are being (or have already been) phased out. Nice job sidestepping the options /package debate though.
-
Your arms must be getting pretty tired from all that bar moving. The whole price to car size ratio has already been explained to you. My original points stand but hey, Benz only “added” a FWD car to their sedan lineup lol.
-
How many times does this have to explained to you? The CT5 is a tweener size that is closer in size to a E Class than the C-Class. And what you call "al a carte", I call "nickel and diming" you to death. Your bar moving changes nothing here. Again, charging extra for two USB-C ports that should already been in the back of a supposed four door family sedan and $700 for airbags. BTW, those soft close doors are not offered on the E-Class at all unless you opt for the AMG models. That makes those doors a $30-50K option if you really want them since they can only be had on the AMG. Want to try that again? Guess it didn't dawn on you that I am talking about their cars and not their CUVs/SUVs. Not one FWD Cadillac sedan or coupe in the last 13 years. Furthermore (since you wanted to go there), how many FWD based car/CUVs constitute the total number sold by Benz? Oh and that FWD original CLA45 comes in at the same price (just a few grand under) as the CT4 Blackwing so get back to us when that comparison comes out instead of comparing it to a lower trim CT4-V.
-
And only Porsche beats them at that but at least Porsche has never sold a FWD appliance and disguised it as a performance auto (looking at you A-Class). They get a slight pass but not by much lol.
-
You do get that it still comes in miles cheaper than the German competition, especially when said competition prices also shoot through the roof when loaded? Hell, I’m looking at the build price for the E63 AMG and why in the hell does it cost $550 extra for soft close doors? What kind of BS is that from the supposed luxury standard of the world? Or how about $50 for two rear USB-C ports? Or an extra $700 for rear seat side impact air bags? Who charges extra for that non-sense? And this (and every other option for it) pushes it over $140K.

CT5-V and CT4-V BLACKWING -- Return to Big Power
surreal1272 replied to dwightlooi's topic in Cadillac
Personally, I like not having to take my car for expensive repair after expensive repair, regardless of how much I paid for the car but hey, I guess some folks have time to deal with that non-sense. -
So when they (when they were just “Maybach”) were directly trying to complete with RR ten years ago while being 100K cheaper, that was okay? Seriously crazy double standards you are showing here and thats saying something.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
surreal1272 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Very true. Some places will indeed be more difficult than others but nationwide, there are still plenty of options to set up sustainable and renewable energy. On the flip side, nuclear power is an expensive and risky undertaking for most areas. There are good reasons why more locales don't use it. Ha! However, there are attempts to move away from that as well i.e. solid state batteries. -

My picture response to the anti-renewable energy crowd when they bring up issues with things like Wind and Solar. Feel free to look up "Dan river coal ash spill" while you're at it. -

Way to miss the point entirely. There is training for just about every job out there if one were so inclined to get off their ass and look. Read my entire statement (the one above your comment) on that instead of cherry picking the one little piece that doesn’t tell the whole story. Old industry being replaced by new industry is practically the backbone of this country. It all started with the industrial revolution. -
Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
surreal1272 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Exactly. I am so tired of reading the slanted remarks to the concept of learning something new because your previous industry is dead or dying. Change has been a technological fact since day one. Out with the old, in with the new and with that comes the need to learn new skills and take advantage of training in up and coming fields. Whats that some circles say? "Lace up your boots and get to work!" -

Then let me say it again. It's a freakin delivery van, regardless of powertrain. Who gives two squats how it looks? It only needs to do the job. -

How did the oil field worker get his job on the oil field? Training. The same applies to applying for any new job. You are also assuming that a solar company would not have an oil worker otherwise. https://cleanchoiceenergy.com/news/renewable_energy_jobs_for_coal_miners_and_oil_workers It's a freakin delivery van. As William said earlier, just drop the "EVs are garbage" routine already. -
Fair points but I still feel as though the 5 Series will be its more consistent competitor but this “tweener” size does put it in a bit of a comparison conundrum.
-
Ignore the price because the Germans will always be higher (hell, a 3 series starts at higher price than the base CT-5). Like the 2nd gen CTS, it tweener size is much closer to the 5-Series and E-Class than the 3-Series and C Class. And again, I am talking manufacturers claims which has the M5 Comp at 3.2 sec. C&D had the fastest tested time at 2.8 seconds so there is no reason to think that the Caddys can't beat their est. times. Again, all that bar moving while ignoring things like the CT-5 being over $20K cheaper than the M5 Comp. Per another article, despite the fact that the wheelbase measurements of the CT5 and the 5 Series are within 1.1 inches of each other (116 inches to 117.1). So, the CT5 is not-quite-a-5er, not-quite-a-3er, making the CT5-V Blackwing closest to, well, the more powerful uber-fast midsizers than less powerful, smaller stuff such as the BMW M3 sedan or Mercedes-AMG C63. It's called "ignore user". Try it or quit your bitchin'. No offense.

generation e Generation E - Are you willing to join the future?
surreal1272 replied to G. David Felt's topic in General Motors
"Worthless" is a subjective term as I believe there is validity to the article and assessments within. Yes, they could be wrong but they could also be right. Just because it doesn't agree with your assessment of BEVs doesn't mean its wrong. Yeah, its a good thing that coal mines are so safe and that oil pipelines never leak and take up too much land for the exact same reasons you mention above. But but, when Wall Street is doing well, then the U.S. is doing well (at least, that's what a certain previous administration said for the last four years). -
Insurance bumps are most likely due to cost of parts replacements (body, powertrain, and frame).
