Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
surreal1272 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
No. On top of what David has said, population density has a lot to do with why folks before the smaller modes of transportation. Look at those pics that David posted for a prime example fo this. And your source pulls up nothing (Statistica) because it wants me to pay to see pain old stats. Mine is based off of simple logic that while there are a fair number of models that START at under $10K, they quickly shoot north of that number with a few options and folks that are shelling out $10K for a car are probably going to be willing to pay for some options to suit them, just like here. Now, the question is how many of those models sold were the sub-$10K ones. The median income in the U.S. is $31K (just north of that) while the average car price is $37K yet cars sell like hotcakes here. What exactly is your point? -

Really? I've heard promises of lower prices on cars for decades now but that has never actually happened. These were the opinions of folks that spoke of this long before the internet age. Corporate promises galore. And "fraction" is a relevant term. -

Wasn’t debating that point but seeing as how that doesn’t take effect until 2030, who knows where overall prices will be there. Fun fact though, most of India’s best sellers are priced well north of $10K. -

And ICE powered vehicles have not gone down in price either despite more than 100 years on the market. -

Which proves my point that there cheaper EV options in India than the Tesla and Jaguar Balth cited. That was my point from the start. -

It doesn’t matter that YOU never had to use a feeling service but plenty of others have and still do and that was the point. And I’m sorry but diesels, overall, are not quiet (and I worked at a Chevy dealership years ago and I will debate the quietness of that 6.6L Duramax which is still noisy IMO) and most will end up blowing a black cloud of death whenever they go. See that crap everyday in NC and saw it everywhere in Arizona. Cite your source about the 75%. Also, go ahead and point out the two expensive imports selling there while ignoring native companies like Tata, which sells far cheaper cars overall (EVs included). Thats some SMK level cherry picking, honestly. -
Your case is 1 in 50. Feel free to reference the post I made last week about idiots who lift their trucks, bling it out, and put all sorts of useless accessories on it. Also, whether you buy new or used isn’t the point. It’s the out of date and out with the times dealerships who think it is perfectly fine to milk another $10K for something they, themselves, didn’t even make. Imagine being able to get that vehicle directly from the maker and cutting out the dealership con game.

Nice review and the 3rd row issue perfectly illustrates why CUVs with sloping rooflines will almost always have jack squat for head room. It also clearly doesn't help when the legroom is horrible but that is something that is all too common with just about any CUV/SUV that isn't a full size. My Flex has a decent 3rd row and certainly more headroom than the Lexus but I have only had short teenagers back there (with no complaints mind you) so I'm sure the leg room would not be all that great for the long legged types. There is just only so much room you can get out of smaller size vehicles. Lexus was better off leaving off the 3rd row out of the RX and just selling it on the additional cargo room the longer version gets you.
-
True but the issue is not whether to check another dealer but the fact that the milking process exists there in the first place. That is missing my point entirely and you are moving the bar a bit. The MSRP is just that and the dealerships are just being greedy A-holes, disposable income or not. It is funny how you consider it to be “disposable” income at $60K yet two thirds of your favorite mode of transportation, full size pick ups, cross that threshold by leaps an bounds. Guess “disposable” is a subjective term.
-
You know good and well that is not even close to the same thing and I think Dave covered nicely as to why that is the case. Ford bakes in a mark up already as will Rivian. The problem, and CLEAR difference here, is there greedy ass Ford dealership milking an already marked up MSRP by an additional 15%. If you don’t see the problem, as well as the difference, there then I don’t know what else can be said at this point. When all you seem to want to find is bad stuff, then that is all you will get. Except his statement is becoming more true by the year.

No. It’s because you were talking out of your ass. Someone who calls themselves “Alt-Right” can take an immediate dismissal from any serious conversation here because you’re not interested in actual facts. You’re interested in trying to sound right about literally everything that is (most of the time) a direct contradiction of the actual facts (like your climate change and scientists associated with it). Again, you’re not fooling anyone here with the obvious slant you constantly try to push here. Don’t blame your ignorance on “leftists”. You did that all on your own and it’s only gotten worse since your boy got the boot almost five months ago. Says the person who jumped on the Alt-Right bandwagon, the same group who actually believe in “alternative facts”. Your opinion on this is worth about as much as Giuliani speaking in front of a Landscaping business with his “facts” about voter fraud.

Almost 8 billion people on this planet and you think nuclear power is the best option, like somehow we won’t use up all the usable land at some point and start looking at that previously unused land (like we’ve done too many times in the past) when we realize we screwed that up too because some alleged “smart” folks thought it was a good idea to just dump some nuclear waste here? You are a special one there Dwight. That’s all I will say about it at this point. That’s big talk about reliability coming from an Audi owner.
-
No. You are definitely high to think there is some grand conspiracy amongst scientists because that’s all we ever hear about, those super rich and corrupted scientists LOL. Oh wait. And the nuclear/pyramid comparison is just, well, dumb because it makes zero sense in the grand context of what’s being talked about here. Save the tinfoil act for your nationalist buddies on Facebook. Again, just dumb “logic” on every level but again, I’m not even surprised at this point.
-
Must be why 99% of the folks who ACTUALLY study and have degrees in such fields, say the exact opposite of what alleged engineers say.. Are you high? Seriously. (Hand raised all the way up in the back of the classroom) OOOOH! OOOOOH! I KNOW!!!

I'm just saying...

Which they could have easily already done had they not stopped making the FJ Cruiser and improving upon it (like its horrible rear visibility). Could have even kept the name going and saved some pennies on new naming rights. "Market adjustment" is just a fancy term for "price gouging". Because everything in Australia wants to kill and/or eat you, that's why. Even the Koalas will give you that look if you're not careful.

For such a know it all, you sure managed to be wrong about Texas power on just about every front. Their grid and alleged "smart" system was proven an absolutely joke just over a month ago and that's just for starters how utterly horrible their entire system was and and still is. And while you talk about not letting the government decide, you seem to have ZERO problem with letting the industry (in this case electric companies) run it for you, which (btw) includes controlling that SAME government you decry via lobbying and dirty politics. My dad (rest his soul) worked for Duke Energy for almost forty years and I could tell you some stories about the horrors that are the Texas Electrical grid and the folks who run it. It is laughable how off base you are and even more laughable that you bitch about Cali yet continue to live there. Not real smart if you ask me but hey, what do I know. In the end, trying to compare CA with TX, at this point, is like trying to compare a dog turd to a pig turd. Who cares? They're both s***.

Well said. One look at his Facebook page will tell you all you need to know (even if you can only see his "public" stuff).

I just find it funny that the couples basic ignorance and refusal to do just a little research before acquiring a Taycan is not the bigger issue here. Yes, UKs infrastructure needs some work but to be fair, the country wasn’t exactly a bastion for liberal gas consumption (higher costs to fuel there than here for example). After searching through several articles regarding the couple and their car, it seems that they did buy it and understood that they could have charged it at home yet didn’t. Now their blatant ignoring of such a things leads to a nice fodder article for the non-convinced folks but it is pure fodder knowing these simple facts. The slant here is pretty obvious.
-
The article mentions but pretty much sidesteps the fact that the owners were quite ignorant from start to finish here. It was not just about busted or non-working charging stations. Hell, the gas station nearest to my old place just outside of Greensboro has problem/non-functioning pumps every other week. These Taycan owners merely needed to charge their car overnight, before their 45 minute drive, and they would have covered that trip from start to finish with charge to spare.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Wasn't really speaking to your brand loyalty but to Blu since he made the statement that somehow brand loyalty matters (it really doesn't) while never seeming to practice said brand loyalty. And, as it has been pointed out, homogenization has been going down for over half a century now. EVs and their related platforms do not make this practice worse, merely a continuation of long played out event in the industry. It really isn't that big of a deal, honestly, in IMO if it means a good and reliable product for buyers (for starters anyway).
