  1. Cook car...not sure about the rear Buick-esque fenders, but otherwise a striking car....it is good to be Leno.
  2. Orville Redenbacher's new truck...
  3. I just KNEW all of you haters of the concept would get your wish! Looks just like the '69 you asked for...and they even left out the airbags for that truly 'old-fee' you kids were screeming for. Great job GM. On a serious note...wow. Hot car!
  4. It may have something to do with the potential marketing of a product to a consumer base of a billion (B) people. That and cheap labor to produce components at a third of the cost of even Mexico, it makes what we call "Business Sense". When you have eco-weenies in the US complaining about what manufacturing does to the environment coupled with unions demanding free dental for thier pets and a 15 hour work week for 80 hour pay... it is only a matter of time before companies have to seek other avenues for production. I am not saying that destroying the environment is cool and that Unions suck...I am just saying that unless you want to pay $40k for a Cobalt LS - something has to give. Combine those factors with Japanese manufacturers paying $12-17 and hour or less to their employees, and GM is in the $40's...there has to be a cost savings somewhere - as well as a market outside of the US. And to answer your question...there is no guarantee that they will not copy what we bring over, but if we put the brick and morter on the ground and employ them, they will be less likely to copy a complete Buick. The smart is a fairly simple car (especially without the crumple zones of the German variant) so it is probably pretty easy to copy it inexpensively.
  5. Honda - I have owned two - both Accords. My wife's accord wagon was arguably the most boring automobile I have ever owned...to the extent that it was sold 6-weeks after purchase for a used '95 Yukon that rode better, drove better, and generally did everything better than the Honda ever did. I have never looked at ANY Honda and went "WOW!" I will now move on to the present: My brother bought an Acura (expensive Honda) TL or something ( 3-series competitor) and he had to go and take me for a ride to show it off. Small, rode HORRIBLE for a NON-sport packaged car, had the most convuluted dash I have ever had the displeasure of peering upon and the simulated chrome alumaplastic that surrounded all of the screens and audio controls was so displeasing I was shocked. I sat in the drivers seat and switched the switches and touched all of the tactile areas that everyone gets so worked up about...and I don't get it. I could not find the appeal in the car in any way shape or form, and when he told me what he is paying is EQUAL to my 07 Tahoe LT3...I laughed. The ONLY feature I found cool was the bluetooth of his phone and it's integration into the car. If my Tahoe had that...I would never again need to shop for another car. The Ridgeline is a great copy of the Avalanche, with an uninspiring interior (my opinion) and an inability to work as a truck when called upon. This would not be the case with the GMT-900's - they will be used as trucks in 80-90% of the time. Guys out hunting or working on the jobsite don't care two bits about the switchgear feel or the graining of the plastic being of a finer grain than the grain on their wife's Honda Truck.
  6. Eastern route takes you around the horn of South Africa to get to Australia. Yes, if you were going to be taking the western route off of California, then yes, it would be a bit out of the way. As an importer of Bakery Equipment from Capetown for many years, we had equipment coming into New York/East coast more than we did West coast. So yes, it is a trade route.
  7. Have to do something with all of those empty ships heading back down to reload with new RWD Pontiacs...not a bad decision if you ask me.
  8. Better than expected report...and yet they are stopping production for two weeks on the H2. Good news is good news though, so, keep it up Hummer!

    ...

man! That is cool. The cup holder out back wil be handy for those larger drinks that you don't want to trip over up front. I use the rear cup holders all the time in my Tahoe - even when I am alone. I like the body colored steelies and do dish caps look on this one...that sounds like a good idea. Finally a wor vehicle for people who do not need a Full Sized Van to get the work done. Thanks GM...so, when these start selling - how soon 'til DCX decides to build one too?
  10. BEAUTIFUL - Build this AND sell it here with both diesel and gas powertains ( dare i say hybrid? ) and I will forgive you for the Cavalier AND the Cobalt...not that those were terrible - but this is a whole lot better! Wow! An aggressive and BEAUTIFUL economy car from GM...who knew?
  11. Mine: Aura and Tahoe - hands down Reality: Car: Toyota Camry Truck: Toyota FJ...isn't it just a rebodied 4runner...is that a 'new car'? Sigh...Toyota has it's issues, but they have the wind to thier backs as far as the press is concerned. I find nothing of interest or value in any of the Toyota line-up. Nothing grabs me with any wow gotta have it factor. I pass a Toyota dealer and it might as well be an appliance shop...yawn.
  12. This would be one of the actual signs of the Apocalypse...the seventh is Toyota making a product that is actually NOT an appliance but an actually desirable passionate product... Please GM - do not merge - work together on the future of Autos and in gaining world marketshare - but stay away from a joint boardroom.
  13. If they need a tester in the Midwest - say Cedar Rapids, Iowa...sign me up!!! And I have to agree with the lights/front end...why? The Equinox is quite handsome without the Pontification...now it looks kinda wierd. Still a nice truck for the money though.
  14. This is great news when you compare it to cross town rival Ford - GM's truck sales are UP while Fords continue to fall every month - and Ford is selling with HUGE incentives, GM is not! Yes, the GMC and Chevy trucks (outgoing) have 0% - but without discount incentives on top of them like the Fords. Yeah, sales could be better, but when you compare with the other US makers, GM is turning out some great numbers.
  15. is the Crossfire the new version of a fastback...cause we all know how well those are flying off the floors at a DCX dealer near you...although, I admit, I love the car. The style lines on the hood are damned sweet. Love to reskin the hood on the Roadmaster wagon with those, just to add some flair. I love the pillarless look, but will they withstand the new roof crush standards without having to be made of cast iron and weigh a metric ton?
  16. OnStar is great - if you slam into a tree at mach 1 and are unconcious! Then you have to pray that the ebonics speaking person on the system can relay directions to your remains at the crash site. I have used the OnStar button one time for directions and could barely understand the person on the phone telling me 'Where I Be At!' ( Not kidding ) I would need an education in Ebonics to understand where she was sending me. I am not making a blanket statement or trying to be racist...but if I could not understand her - what is to say the other people driving GM cars can...and my dad had the same issue two different times - he could not understand the person on the phone and the directions were backwards. The OnStar diagnostics are cool though...if you can understand what they say the car is telling them is wrong..."Broken!"
  17. Really enjoyed the pics. Beautiful Skylark, the exotics were nice, and it was probably quite beautiful to see Mako Sharks in the sun - rare indeed. Thank you for sharing...
  18. Bad ZL-1 I just get exasperated by what seems to be a complete and utter impatience by people on this board and the speed in which the Gerneral moves. Hey, I want this stuff to get her yesterday just like the rest of you - but I want it here right not just right now! I was talking with Scott about the Camaro vs the Challenger and how quickly DCX will be getting that car to market - and he was somewhat upset by the demands on how slowly the Camaro seems to be progressing compared to the Challenger. People - we are starting out with a clean sheet design here with the Camaro - just as these Diesels need to be tested and EPA certified before releasing them on the market ( we do not need another 70's/80's GM Diesel problem at this juncture) Designing and building the entire car with all of the subsystems and packaging and certifications take time. 2 years is a blink in a product cycle. You will see new Camaro's on the lots before you know it. (It takes us a year to develop and get a piece of bakery equipment right for the market - and we do not have to crash test a mixer at 40 mph - so two years for a complete car is pretty reasonable) GM will release other motors to us when they feel it is time to do so. Yeah, it seems like a snail's pace compared to how the world moves these days, but be patient! Now - why did I write all of this? Because I read last week about one ofthe posters on this board complaining that GM had no diesel program and they were going to miss out on $40k in his business because of it. Be patient people - good things are coming (no, I do not know more than anyone else on this board about future products) Just what I see on t.v. and what I gleen from conversations with people in the know.
  19. Is anyone ever happy for the news we do get on this board without asking for more? It like you guys are a bunch of spoiled brats! This is big news and it shows the GM does not have it's head up it's ASS as so many of you had stated when the other article came out and mentioned nothing of diesels...now we have the news we all wanted - and yet you want a V6 version. Come on, can we not just enjoy the news without the next question flogging at us?
  20. I can buy E85 10 minutes from here and another station is coming online this weekend in Howard, IA...selling gas at $.85 per gallon. It is coming nationwide before you know it. GM should give dealers a break on a pump and tank system that can be dropped at any dealership and let them sell it. A stand along credit card operated system only needs space, power and a phone line. (somebody suggested this months ago on a different thread) I loved the idea and pitched it to the Live Green team at GM. Have not heard if it went anywhere. Think of the traffic on the dealerships and customers driving in to fill up and maybe the wife decides to get a new Trailblazer or HHR while you fill the truck. Dealers are looking for ways to expand traffic...here you go!
  21. where am I on this one: I like diesels, think they are fun to drive and make great torque. Would I like one in my Tahoe or in a'Burban - yeah. Are owners with Duramax's getting better mileage than the gas powered trucks - nope. The fuel is $.56/gal more than ethanol blend here = so where is the benefit for the extra expense of the diesel powertrain. Sure, I could pull a house off the foundation if I wanted to, but the costs at this time outweigh the benefits. I like GM's direction right now with the Hybrids and the dual-mode drive systems - it is a good solution for now. Would I like to see the Diesels in the colorado, H2/H3, and some other light trucks and small cars - an HHR TDI would be a cool around town car with 50+ possible mpg. The problem I foresee is the clean air standards that are being imposed for next year. It is expensive to get the oil burners to pass that test - so it will rule it out on the cars that need it most that would deliver to the market that is asking for it - competition for the VW's and in an upcoming small truck market. Let's keep in mind that GM is not printing this article - so the information about a lack of diesels may be false. Calm down and wait to see what happens in a year or so. With Holden poised to get one and GM Europe on the way - as well as GM's push for alternative fuels ( Biodiesel anyone? ) I cannot see GM ignoring this venue as the article claims they have.
  22. you are all going to hate me - but I love the wheels on the Tahoe. These are really nice trucks - if you have not driven one - go do it. I have an 07 and tell anyone I can to buy one. They are phenominal.
  23. Cannot wait to rent one. :AH-HA_wink:
  24. please note the crowd control measures that were in place to keep the throngs of would be buyers at bay...wow. The EPA could determine that thing to be an environmental hazzard should it ever be parked within 10 miles of an open flame. Seriously, are there any warnings on this truck to keep flame away? The interior is blah, but this was a base model. What will they sell for?
  25. I have spent over $100k with the dealer that has put me on the list with a verbal commitment. All I have to do is make the deposit when I order the car. I doubt that they want to loose me as a client. Also, I made sure to get them information on the concept when I returned from Detroit at the unveiling. At that time they actually thanked me by starting the 'if list' - then when they had the announcement about building it they notified ME that my father and I were on the list already. I personally do not care of I am #1 or #10 on the list...they tell me they will sell it to me for MSRP and let me order it the way I want it, then I will be there with the check book. If they do what the Pontiac dealer tried to do with the GTO and Solstice (Market Adjustment Value $$$) then I will walk - just like I did before.
