Didn't get 'em out today (Sunday) ... it was just too hot. I met up with Krunch from 2000montecarlo.com (on his way east for his road trip) at I-90 and Randall Rd about 11:45a. By the time they headed for MI and I headed home about 1:15p, I realized that it was just too hot to get the older 4 MCs out. Ah, well ... the forecast is for storms Monday and Tuesday, with better weather for the end of the week. So ... probably will attempt to get 'em out again later this week . So, I'm getting the feeling
Indeedy. I have no car payments right now and it is sweet. Course, I have other bills ... insurance, medical, etc. So, many of those go on credit card, which I ALWAYS pay off EVERY month. But, the card I have gives 1% back on purchases ... so, every few months I have a $20 credit ... which helps. *shrugs* Cort:33swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip".pig valve.pacemaker WRMNshowcase.lego.HO.model.MCs.RT.CHD = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort "We never stop to think what we consume" ... This is what I did this morning...
Oh my goodness, Fly ... that is SWEET! I've always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon ... haven't yet. A company in the Galena IL area gives hot air balloon rides early in the morning and at night. One of these days, I will get out there to go. A former co-worker has gone several times and showed me pics ... absolutely gorgeous scenery from the balloon! Supposedly, 07/07/07 is a lucky day. Not 100% "lucky" for me ... but, finally ... for the first time in 2007 ... my older 4 Monte Carlos saw road pavement! My sister, Joy, came over early Saturday morning so we could clean up her 2007 Dodge Dakota quad cab w/manual transmission. Once we got done, we ate lunch ... and then went to the garage where the older 4 are stored. We drove each car about 15 miles ... just enough to get gas in 'em. MPGs were anywhere from just over 12 to upwards of 17; I don't really count these, considering how long they've been sitting and the "false start" a few weeks ago. I drove the '72 and '79; sis drove the '81 and '76. I would've liked to have driven each of 'em a bit longer, but that's fine ... those 15 or so miles was on "back country roads" (well, more or less, these days) ... so the short distance was traveled at 45-60 mph, which gave 'em a good runnin'. *sigh of relief* ...And, it just feels good to have them out. I'll probably drive 'em more tomorrow, too, depending on how hot it really gets. Still not convinced, however, that I shouldn't sell them...we'll see. SWEET TEA * hardly nastily dirty ... thank goodness for light colors . * loved starting. The one MC of my 5 that probably shouldn't still be running ... and it starts perfectly every time. Perhaps I've taught it well? * ran well, but per sis, vibrations at higher speeds. Hmmm...may need new tires. SWEET PEA * not as nasily dirty ... light colors hide the dust, fairly well * didn't like starting at first ... needed a charge and then was perfectly content. * ran beautifully ELVIRA * very nastily dusty ... really need to wash it; I strongly dislike dirty black cars. * did not like starting ... charged it twice. Then, needed jumped (by the '72) at the gas station ... how embarrassing ... he he. But, it did re-start ... took its good old sweet time, of course, but it knows what happens to cars that cross me . Needs a new battery. * found some tranny fluid on the ground, this time....hmmm. * ran just fine, otherwise. May need some brake work and tires. BROWNY * nastily dusty ... need to wash it. * started OK, but needed some "starting fluid" assistance. * ran just fine, but may need some brake work and tires ... and tranny leak, none this time, but some there the day I had 'em out and had to put 'em right back in the garage again. After I got home, I got gas in the '87 MC LS, too.... BABY BLUE * still shiny, but noticeably a bit dirty. * running just fine ... soon will need regular servicing, tho. * gas mileage ... over 20 mpg this time ... go figure...hmmm.... Look what the stork just brought...
A few points before I get into the subject... 1 ... I had a good 4th of July. 2 ... I realized I really want to be a weather person ... be paid 100% of the time, even if I'm wrong. The forecast, of course, for the 4th of July called for clouds and rain. So, I believed them. Instead, we had mostly sunshine today. But, I didn't get the older 4 Monte Carlos out (they still have not seen road pavement in 2007); I took the time to travel to have lunch with some good friends ... and meet their new, 2-week-old daughter. Course, not much else on my list got accomplished ... go figure . 3 ... The trip to Freeport IL was a bit selfish of me, too ... because it's been a LONG time since I did a full-fledged "road trip". So, this mini-road trip (less than 2 hours one way) did me a world of good ... good to DRIVE a while again (and NOT be in traffic) ... good to see my friends from the 1st gen MC club ... and good to meet the newest person I can corrupt. ...which brings me to the topic ... kids. For some reason, most kids seem to love me ... and I can't explain it. I do my best to corrupt them, too...he he. Course, maybe my attempts are thwarted because the lil buggers know I love 'em, too.... *rolls eyes* At the church I had attended (where my grandfather last pastored), the kids called me "cello man" (I play the cello). College friends in Ohio have 2 boys, who, when I visited last August, discovered how fun it is to pop the bubbles (especially the big ones) that I was blowing. So, I outsmarted them. I blew a bunch of smaller ones. Then, while they (well, mostly the oldest boy) scurried to pop all of those, I blew some really big ones. Other college friends in Tennessee now have 3 kids. Their eldest knows me the most, as I visit them at least once a year during my travels to Nashville/Jackson. In fact, she knows me too well. Last summer, after the MC Nationals just north of Nashville, I traveled to Jackson TN to visit them. Except, their eldest was in northern Indiana visiting some grandparents. My friends decided not to tell her I was going to be there, since they knew she'd want to come home to see me. Anyway, the night I was there, they did their nightly talk over the internet/camera. They had me stand back in the room, far enough back (so they thought) that she wouldn't see me. But, what were the first words out of her mouth? "Is that CORT back there?!?!" So much for that. He he. I have some Monte Carlo-related buddies in various states whose kids keep asking when I'm going to see them again. Sadly, one of those I haven't seen in years. And, when they lived within an hour drive of me, I saw them a lot ... and, didn't realize how much their youngest thought of me. I need to find time to see them again. Heh ... as I held Tori this afternoon, I told her parents that, in about 16-18 years, I'll be able to look her in the eye and tell her that I "held her when" she was just 2 weeks old. It is always weird to me when the older adults in my life can say, "I knew you when"; it'll be FUN to be able to return the favor with Tori and all of the other kids I know . So ... do you get along with kids? Have any humorous stories to share?
