  1. I never heard of it before today either, but it was a U.S. model/trim and those were the nameplates on the fenders : http://www.caaarguide.com/sub1/id455.html http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/chevy/77v6.html
  2. 1977-1979 Chevy Caravan / 1984~ Dodge Caravan
  3. 'Times change' - sure, but I was addressing configuration, not cylinder count. I can see the 'all Vee engines' argument, tho. I guess the Vee's days are numbered even at Daimler
  4. I still sit here wondering how mercedes justified abandoning the "better" inline 6 when they did.
  5. So how does this about-face mesh with their 'nuttin' better' tagline (or whatever it is); they discontinued the inline motor for the better-packaged V6, now they're dropping that to go back.
  6. Here's the '87 brochure page supporting SAmadei : http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Pontiac/1987%20Pontiac/album/1987%20Pontiac-22.html
  7. ^ I think that's right. Pontiac started jumbling things up in the '80s, I haven't committed to memory what they did exactly. More than 1 brand used the same names on multiple series' wagons (the Dodge Sierra above is one). Others (like Chevy) liked to toss in a bunch of names.
  8. ^ I saw something that said the Pontiac 6000 wagon was known as a Safari, but I didn't look for confirmation. That's fairly unusual, as that means the 2 overlapped in existence (like the Sevilles). The '76-whenever Seville becomes the triplet in that name series, too.
  9. ^ Yea- don't worry about 'fraternal' - or you can just look at it as 'fraternal siblings in the automotive world'. Actually, I'm not sure how this one is much/any different than 'only the name's the same'...
  10. Same name pairs... 1956 DeSoto Fireflite Seville 1956-1960 Cadillac Eldorado Seville 1952-1959 Dodge Sierra wagon 1971-present GMC Sierra 1958-1959 Edsel Ranger 1967-the end of time Ford Ranger {For many initial years the Ranger was a top-line trim package on the F-Series} 1958 Edsel Citation 1980-1985 Chevrolet Citation 1958 Edsel Pacer 1975-1980 AMC Pacer 1958-1960 Edsel Villager 1993-2003 Mercury Villager 1955-1981 Pontiac Safari 1985-2005 GMC Safari
  11. Something I haven't seen in well over a decade; a '67-ish T-Bird coupe, dark brown, completely stock, show condition, rolling. '75-76. Looked decent but had horrific quality issues (time & owner workmanship) :
  12. I wish we knew the answer to this question :

  14. I thought so too, tho I couldn't find more without going into concept cars (not that that's 'prohibited' or anything...)

  19. The History Book of Hindsight is laden with examples of companies who refuse to look in the Mirror of Relevence...
  20. Got this in my wanderings. Aside from the minor dog-ear in the lower right corner, it's a mint book. 96 pages, see the pic for the table of contents to see what the book covers. Asking $5.00 plus 2.00 shipping. Will let this ride here first for 2 weeks or so, then off to eBay. Side note: anyone remember the GMC Desert Fox ?? :
  21. Saw a F'ing gorgeous '64 Grand Prix, minty-mint, Marimba Red w/ 8-lugs. I wanted to pull a 180 and chase it down (I did see what side street it went down). Later, this made a few passes up & down my street: '67 Chevelle SS, open headers. Sounds great, but didn't move out as well as the sound would lead one to believe (still left a cloud of burnt rubber).
  22. daimler has made billions off of rentals / fleet sales; it's the hallmark of a great company!
  23. ^ Not going to offer what a 1-yr old Sonic is offering for the same money (138 HP aside).
